Olivia Rodrigo had a very successful year in 2024 with the hits Driver's License, Deja Vu and Good 4 U. Sabrina Carpenter has had a very successful 2024 with Feather, Espresso and Please Please Please. Who had a better year? Olivia or Sabrina?

2024 isn't over, so there's still time for Sabrina, especially with the album drop next month. Right now she's having a nice successful era.
But Olivia in 2021 had one of those eras.
So as of now I'll say Olivia.

Right now I would give Olivia the slight edge due to more weeks at #1 but the year's not over yet.

Olivia, not even close.
But Sabrina could get there.

I still believe that out of the two, Sabrina should have had her big break before Olivia. Sabrina’s been around longer and to me, Olivia sounds just a little bit fresher. I really don’t know why it took so long for Sabrina.

we'll know it for sure one or two weeks after Sabrina's album, but so far Olivia easily.

If we're talking first-week album domination of the Top 20, it's Olivia for sure (from www.billboard.com/pro/olivia-rodrigo-all-sour-songs-hot-100-top-30/):For those who don't want to click on the image, Olivia occupied 11 spots, 9 in the Top 20: 2,3,9,11,12,14,15,18,19,24,29 Sabrina's first week is less dominating overall (with 13 songs but only 5 in the Top 20): 2,3,4,14,15,21,22,26,27,32,35,41

In terms of music, Olivia's debut was definitely bigger. We'll see how SNS holds up, but SOUR is/was a huge album.
Breakthrough as a star and a personality though? I'd give the edge to Sabrina. And that's just because she's a more well-rounded celebrity.

And that's just because she's a more well-rounded celebrity. This feels very sensible to me. Sour was a MASSIVE album. Those streaming numbers are HUGE. It might literally be the #1 most streamed female album on Spotify.

I mean, Olivia Rodrigo was the defining artist of the year, with two megasmash #1 hits and one of the biggest debut albums of all time. She was *the* story of the year in 2021. Sabrina has had a really nice breakthrough this year, but the story of the year was the beef, the biggest album was Tortured Poets, and even in terms of breakthroughs, Chappell Roan has probably been more culturally relevant. The year’s not over, I think you could make a case for Espresso as the song of the summer, and I can see Carpenter having more long term impact than Olivia (who’s affinity for 90s and 00s rock may ultimately cost her commercially). But in terms of this comparison, it’s Olivia, no contest

it's not what? SOUR is the most streamed female album of all time with 13.1B streams, it's also the best-selling female album of the 2020s, with about 20M units globally (I think 2nd overall, only behind Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti).

Obviously Sabrina is having a great year and is the top Female Pop artist in 2024. Sabrina has been around a few years. Why didn't you recognize her voice 3 years ago?

Who hates 99.9% of the thin voiced successful artist , people like you,. with no taste put at the top of the charts? Do you think before you speak or nah? Because if didn't know her until I listen to her album. Duh 🙄. Unless you listen to a full body of work you don't get to appreciate talent, songwriting, her witty style Also you have no idea what I stan, listen to and all the unknown artists who don't get given any success because you just love to talk out your ass at people . Don't be mad cause coco will never give a compliment your fav 😂

" Why didn't you recognize her voice 3 years ago"
Who the hell do you think you are that I have to answer to you what I like? Are you my authority?! Watch your tone and stay in your own lane

From my perspective living in a different country, I feel like Olivia out-of-nowhere rise felt more like an event for those who follow music here, not only because it was big, but also because it took everyone by surprise… there was a curiosity element to it that made her Sour era more like an event that everybody was aware of and wanted to share their opinion (liking or not). Sabrina slowly gained traction with each release here and, as successful as she’s become, I haven’t seen the same sort of “surprise” or “excitement”… she more like you’re regular “blonde pop girl” that put out some good pop songs and people seem to enjoy that… so for now, it feels less impactful for me.

Exactly. Also, because Olivia burst out while people were still dealing with the effects of the pandemic — everyone still mostly working from home, etc — DL, G4U and SOUR felt like shared cultural moments that everyone who listened to music could appreciate. It was such a surprise that such a young artist could have such a great album that transcended age barriers.

SOUR was bigger and had more impact than SNS (so far), but Sabrina feels like the bigger celebrity than Olivia did since she doesn't have as much star power.

Olivia needs to make smarter choices in her career.
I think the bratty, Avril "rock" isn't working for her. She really needs to change it up on her next album.
I feel like everything hit at the correct time for Sabrina. She is carving out her own niche. Sarcastic, humourous, catchy pop music. Seems like she has a better sense of self. However, Sabrina has been in the game for a decade, so that might just come with time for Olivia.

Yeah let's not forget even the SOUR album tracks were smashing on streaming with no push. I'm still not ready to call it for Sabrina because g4u and DL still feel bigger than any of the Short n Sweet hits but she's managed to open her album with bigger numbers... if the fourth single connects bigger than "traitor" did (which isn't that hard considering the label fumbled that one a bit)... we'll see.

I mean it feels like a super premature question as it's not really fair to stack Sabrina's era against Olivia's when her album was just released a week ago and Olivia's has the weight of time and the entirety of the album's run and subsequent years of streaming to leverage against her. I feel like at the moment the answer would obviously be Olivia, but I believe Sabrina could absolutely catch her in the end with the loaded potential of the record. With that said, I'm more interested in comparing the followup eras as Sabrina strikes me as artist who isn't going to allow herself to have the sophomore slump Olivia has experienced. Either way, I'm invested and interested in seeing both artist's careers play out!
