Since we are talking about Chappell in general in this thread anyway, I want to mention that I am slightly sad that her EXCELLENT ballads have been more or less overlooked so far. They really are spectacular. Kaleidoscope in particular, but also songs like Coffee or Picture You. I have a quiet hope that one of them will get push at some point, but I doubt it.

California is one of my absolute favorites on the album. The ending is absolutely magical with her vocal delivery and emoting. That said, I think the ballads would be terrible single choices when virtually every other song on the album sounds like a bonafide smash.

the only ballad I think should hypothetically be pushed is "Casual"

This one seems to be massive with her fans, or many, and I think GLB is one of the best songs of the decade so farβ¦but other than GLB and HOTβ¦I just donβt see any other radio-friendly songs from this album.
It wouldnβt surprise she takes a break after Grammys (where she will get Best New Artist and works on a new album/singles for Fall.Quarter 25.
She seems pretty iconic, but having more of a Cyndi Lauper career wouldnβt surprise me. Iβm rooting for her though.

Kaleidoscope is my favorite song on the album. But I donβt expect radio to ever play it. But itβll be one for the true fans on the rare times when she plays it. (Like say, βFavorite Crimeβ is for the Livies.)

Take this to number one after HTG. And I would be more than happy for Red Wine Supernova, My Kink Is Karma, and Casual to follow suit. Even Femininomenon, Naked in Manhattan, and Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl sound like potential hits to me. Obsessed with this album. I actually like most of it even better than GLB.
I donβt think Iβve heard an album so stacked with potential singles since Come On Over by Shania. I wonder if they would consider doing something like that here.

Yeah, they should try and capitalize on any potential singles from the present album, because she has a few surefires on it, imo. Iβm just getting into her now, and Iβm sure there are others as well, so no point in wasting good, iconic material. Thereβs no rush imo to get a new body of work out there.

So strange, just donβt hear anything else that seems radio friendly and lyrical content might be a push with some of these songs. I really like CR, genuine pop star, but she is also getting some not so great press lately- she seems very fatigued. Look, would love to see this decades βThe Fameβ, think CR is very comparable to LG, and hope your predictions are right but this might be it.

Why do you feel this might be it? Honestly, curious.
If you donβt think HTG and Pink Pony Club are radio friendly, then Iβm not sure what you find radio friendly. Iβm not sure how they could be anymore radio friendly, to be perfectly honest. I havenβt given the album a deep listening yet, so I donβt feel passionately about other songs, but she has at least 3 hits here, and thereβs no sense wasting them when youβre hot right now.
Her being tired in the press is nothing to worry about imo, it wonβt hurt her singles. She could easily throw out two more singles while making her next record.

Her being tired in the press is nothing to worry about imo, it wonβt hurt her singles. She could easily throw out two more singles while making her next record. I thought HTG would be massive, straight to #1, but it seems to be stalling, perhaps because of the push for GLB. So the reality is, with Hot To Go stalling, it makes me wonder if they are done pushing radio singles on this album. I can see them doing Pink Pony Club with little effort and finding itself somewhere in the 20s, but she already has two Top 20 songs right now and will for at least another 6-8 weeks. Pink Pony Club to me, while itβs some friendβs favorites, seems almost dated and cheap in production to me. Again, the lyrics seem bizarre, unrelatable (unsafe?) to play in most markets for it be big, just my opinion. I think what helps GLB is no one knows what itβs really about. On that note, to be very clear, have no issue and support the lyrics of CRβs songs, just think in many conservative markets you are going to see late night spins with some of the other album cuts.

Red Wine Supernova is one of the biggest CHR smashes Iβve heard in awhile, and I will stand by that until proven wrong.
I would also love to see them try to milk the albumβs potential singles for as long as possible. Iβm worried sheβll drop a follow up quickly and it wonβt be able to compete with all the smashes that are already on Midwest Princess. She should just really take her time with a follow up and drag, drag, draaag this era out.

MONTERO went to #1, and the radio edit is still blatantly about gay sex. The lyrics aren't particularly explicit in PPC at all.

I could see problems with Kink and Casualβs lyrics for radio. Itβs the only reason Iβm not convinced theyβre not huge #1s too. But who knows, they might fly. They might be too catchy for it to matter much. All the other potential hits should be fine lyrically.

βYouβre eating me out,β being played on radio is super risky, imo, especially so clearly annunciated. But then we have other artists like Sabrina, for example, that have blatant lyrics as well, so who knows.

Question is, would that kind of editing hurt the song at all on radio?

I want "Casual" pushed instead but I'll take this! As for radio, she could always do a radio edit and replace "you're eating me out" with "with all your things at my house" or something.

IMO the shock value is part of the appeal of the song, so no, donβt do anything with it. If itβs too raunchy for radio, then it is what it is.

Respectfully I loved the song before I even knew it had "raunchy" lyrics. I think most aren't loving or listening to "Casual" just for the "eating me out" line and if that's the only thing keeping more of the world from hearing its brilliance and subsequently hearing its original form, line included, I think I'd settle for the edit. In a perfect world radio wouldn't care and would play it regardless.

I think the clear answer would be 'and we're making out' or something similar if a radio edit is needed. My personal favourite is My Kink Is Karma and I wish the streaming was stronger for that because I feel like it is the catchiest song there. I suspect Pink Pony Club might be the last radio song from the album, although I would love if Red Wine Supernova got a chance too.

I honestly cannot see this working as a single? I think she just needs to release a new album after the Good Luck, Babe and Hot To Go fade away, which isn't going to be for a long time.

I could see it doing really well if it was added to a big movie soundtrack or something of that nature, to help get it out there.

Haha, now you got me thinking bout that kids bop versionβ¦ βi sat in the passenger seat, and youβre kissing me sweetβ In all seriousness, theyβd likely just censor it out. βKnee deep in the passenger seat *long silence* is it casual now?β would low key be kinda hilarious to hear. Might actually drive streams from listenerβs curiosity over whatβs being said lol.
