You know it's a good rankdown when my only perfect ranks are #1 and #100.

Fiona Apple is one of those critical superdarlings that all the music nerds hype up who I do not think is overrated in the slightest. (In fact I hold the even more hipster opinion of thinking her big hit Criminal kinda is overrated.) She's as good as RYM says she is. Fast as You Can, like many of her songs, is such a jam-packed work of art. I could listen to it for hours because of how many details there are to pick up. I'm not surprised at all it won but this time I'm all in on the boring winner.

Really cool to see Goodnight Moon's performance here too since that was my second highest exclusive and I really had no bearing for how it would rank here without even having heard of the artist before.

Thanks Gates! Glad for the opportunity to discover my birth year had a lot of great songs.

My thoughts exactly. That's why I gave it a high ranking.

Most of these were in my top 30, so I'd say it was a good day.

I also totally forgot I had that Foo Fighters song in my top 10.
I also would have preferred "Otherside", but why complain when they are both Alt Rock classix .
I don't like "eathereal" music. Especially if it's my bottom 10 song that outlasts my Top 10 champs.
I always found "As Fast As You Can" to sound like if it was mad at something. This time the piano even sounded angry.

"Goodnight Moon" was one of my favorite discoveries. It oozes Tarrantino from every pore. I would have preferred that one to win.

Great job. You got the hosting thing down tight. Very entertaining RD. Great vids, and songs, but I mostly love the nostalgia affect I get. I really hope the list for 1999 has even more Alt cruisovers.

[Darkest Hour]

I don't expect my rank for The Dolphin's Cry to be the only one in bottom 40 lol. To me some of the falsetto are annoying and the lyrics are nothing to write home about.

I ought to remember to also listen to Peter Gabriel's former band at some point (regarding the alternate version of their old song here).

Telling Stories is probably the second best Tracy Chapman song I have ever heard, even though the music doesn't sound like hers but rather a great radio fodder tune. Make sense to be #5 year-end.

Also need to listen to Steve Earle in detail at some point but Transcendental Blues serves as a great introduction to his creative streak.

Mark Knopfler is great as long as he puts lots of melodic guitar solos in his songs, and What It Is is a fitting example.

Delirium is an interesting downtempo song in this rankdown. Would be even better if vocals are added.

Congratulations to Fiona Apple for winning an AAA rankdown. Fast As You Can should have been in the Pitchfork rankdown instead of Paper Bag tbh. A very memorable song for its execution.

Finally catching up on this Top 10:

10. Paper Bag - Fiona Apple (73): Off to a great start with my second lowest ranked song kicking off the Top 10. This is nice but not one of my favorites from Fiona Apple.

9. Maybe Someday - The Cure (72): Also fine with this showing up here. Oooh dear, wow I am by far the lowest ranker here and I feel kinda bad for it. Wow everyone having this in their Top 40 except me, lol.

8. Otherside - Red Hot Chili Peppers (8): Ooh yayy, I finally get my first perfect ranking of this rankdown at #8. It only took so long enough, haha. But yeah I do love this and it's one of my favorites from the Chili Peppers.

7. The Great Beyond - REM (93): Oooh nice, yayy glad to have finally cleared out my Bottom 10. Sadly didn't care much for this song from R.E.M. Also definitely not surprised to see myself as by far the lowest ranker for this song, lol.

6. Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters (7): Lmaoo I am finding it so hilarious how either my lowest ranked or highest ranked songs are the first ones to show up - while my middle ranks are the songs succeeding here. Anywho, this is a great and really fun song. I also think it's my favorite song from Foo Fighters. And the music video is really fun too. Nicee at no Bottom 55 ranks too.

5. Simple Kind of Life - No Doubt (12): Aww this is a really good, beautiful and enjoyable song from No Doubt. Probably not one of my veryy favorites from them but I do still love it and think it's a great song from them. Pleased that this was able to make it to the Top 5! Yay for no Bottom 40 ranks for this.

4. Goodnight Moon - Shivaree (34): Well done to this making it this high. I enjoyed this but fine with this showing up now. Nice that this song doesn't have any Bottom 55 ranks either.

3. Porcelain - Moby (53): Oooh I thought my #53 was low and the outlier but then I see Doc Indie's #95 ranking, lol. I don't mind that as I wasn't rooting for this to win. I do think it's a pretty good and solid song, but it just wasn't a favorite of mine. It is impressive how this got mostly Top 20 ranks from most rankers though.

6 vs. 36.... Rooting for my #6, of course but wouldn't be surprised if my #36 wins instead.

2. Take a Picture - Filter (6): Aww nooo, bummer that "Take a Picture" couldn't pull off the win here. :( This was my favorite/highest ranking song of this Top 10 so honestly I am reallly shocked to see it rank and make it this high. This is a great song and I just love the general feel/vibe of this. It's just so easy and pleasant to listen to.

1. Fast as You Can - Fiona Apple (36): Aww bummed that this beat out my #6 but it's a good and solid song... so I can get and understand this winning. I do like this more than her other song, so at least this song won over her other one. Woww at how this song was dominating while rankings were being sent all throughout the ranking process. :o That is seriously impressive!

LOL I love how I end up being 1st on year-end chart closeness yet last in rankdown closeness. Gotta love that for me.
