Chromakopia, the seventh studio album from Columbia's Tyler, the Creator is here—and expectations are running high.

Is a #1 opening possible with only four days left in the chart week? It's a bit too early to say, but it's a good sign that all Chromakopia D2C items are listed as sold out on the artist's online store.

Look for HITS' first projections on Tuesday morning, ahead of the midweek Top 20. Tyler is up against fellow Columbia artist Halsey, who is tracking for an opening week of between 80 and 100K with her label debut, The Great Impersonator.

Chromakopia sports guest turns from Teezo Touchdown, Childish Gambino, Rex Orange County, Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red, Daniel Caesar, ScHoolboy Q, Willow Smith, Thundercat and Doechii.

It's the follow-up to his 2021 Grammy-winning CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, which debuted at #1 after moving more than 169k units in its opening week.

Nobody expected these huge numbers but she has a quiet yet engaged stanbase. Previous album sold similarly with even less promotion. And her debut also opened way above expectations when she had zero hits to her name.

The methodology of the chart, to put it bluntly, is fucked. Digital album sales are the primary culprit; all manner of chicanery takes place late in the chart week, and the thumbs placed unevenly on the scale by Luminate and Billboard have been an issue on an almost weekly basis. The labels have made some moves to curb these excesses—except when they need the eggs.

More recently, the chart overlords have taken strongly punitive steps in hopes of stopping what they consider an abuse of these late-in-the-week moves by certain companies. The use of $4.99 digital album downloads to jack up the chart on Wednesday or Thursday is cut-out promo schlock in modern-day drag. Meanwhile, charges of bullshit are shouted from the rooftops on both coasts and some consider this a huge waste of time and money.

Ugh. Lemme pray to all the gods for Halsey. I have never liked Tyler, ever since his days in Odd Future, and my opinion hasn't really changed. He is the only headliner I have ever actively skipped at Coachella because I would rather be back in my camping group's hangout spot seeing no one than seeing him. I skipped him at ACL this year too because he was on at the same time as Sturgill Simpson and there was no way I would choose Tyler over Sturgill. I heard that Tyler's set sucked from big fans of his that were at his set. While I don't think this is Halsey's best work (that will always be her NIN era), I still support her.

Chromakopia, the seventh album by Columbia's Tyler, the Creator is here—and conservative projections put the project, released yesterday off-cycle on a Monday, at 250k after one day of sales and streams. Can Chromakopia hit 300k and debut at #1?

It's certainly a good sign that the artist presently occupies the entire top 12 and #14 songs on the Apple Music Top 20 and the top 14 songs at Spotify U.S. Plus, all Chromakopia D2C items are listed as sold out on Tyler's online store.

Tyler is up against fellow Columbia artist Halsey, who's looking at between 80 and 100k with her label debut, The Great Impersonator.

Ron Perry’s Columbia scores the top two titles this week as Tyler, the Creator and Halsey debut at #1 and #2, respectively. Tyler’s CHROMAKOPIA has been out for only one day and may finish even higher than the projection below by Friday. Halsey’s The Great Impersonator is her first for the label.

Em’s physicals, the vinyl at least, got shipped. Maybe more than just vinyl. I know I got my vinyl just recently here.
