I think he was always meant to be a one-hit wonder with Old Town Road and basically rode the controversy over Montero which landed him a successful era. So when he tried launching this era with the same tactics especially in a period when everyone is just done with that shit (and with a song that just sucks overall), it bombed awfully.

His fall off really doesn’t surprise me. Other than being one of the only openly gay rappers/singers that come to mind right now, Lil Nas X doesn’t have good bars to keep anyone checking back, and he can’t sing that well either (he heavily relies on autotune). It’s sad, but I truly think his career is over.

Yeah, when your main talent is gimmicks and controversy, your career is on borrowed time once the shock value wears off. But his 2019-2022 run is historic and he broke the ceiling for queer rappers and queer POC.

While it's unlikely it would have made a major difference, I noticed the song is somehow absent from the New Music Friday playlist, so that might explain why these first day numbers are shockingly low.

I'm not seeing any prominent playlisting for that matter. "Pop Up", for instance, prioritized Shawn Mendes' "The Mountain" off the album release despite the four previous singles/promo tracks flopping to oblivion. At least "LIGHT AGAIN!" was meant to be a fresh start for Lil Nas X.

They're probably going off what their current points are and then using data on how much they usually gain at this time of year to make the prediction. Keep in mind for the 12/9/23 Hot 100 4 of the top 5 songs were holiday songs.

Considering the highest charting Christmas song is #29 on AM and #39 on Spotify now, there's a lot of climbing to be done for #1 in two weeks. In general, the start of holiday songs has been slightly slower this year than last year, but obviously the Thanksgiving weekend will change things.

Of course, a potentially notable difference is that week included Thanksgiving (which was November 23 last year, almost the earliest it can be) whereas this November 15-21 week we are currently in is similar date wise, but is still a full week prior to Thanksgiving (which is November 28 this year, the latest it can be). I'd expect that to make the overall numbers for holiday songs a bit lower this week compared to last year, but who knows?

The point is mostly that it's hard to compare this year to last year because Thanksgiving is so different (relatively speaking).

Somewhere deep down I'm feeling, given Tyler's album, that 2025 is going to be another massive year for R&B. SZA is probably releasing, Teezo is getting bigger and bigger and it seems like the public is back on track with Daniel Caesar.

Now, if Frank were to release that would basically become a certainty, but I doubt that will happen at this point. Never say never though.

However Brent Faiyaz has become massive and he'll probably get a hit and at least a moderate album bomb this time around when he drops and that'll probably be sooner rather than later

You need to realise the power of Amazon around every Xmas season as well. Christmas songs usually do massive numbers there which I wouldn't be surprised are comparable to spotify. Normally a product of "Alexa play Christmas music".

Actually, I think they're referring to this tracking week, because they mention it would be the week ABS will tie OTR's record of 19 weeks, which will be this tracking week.

Yeah but as I said, last year Thanksgiving was nearly as early as it could be (one day off) whereas this year it's as late as it can be. So, the question is whether Thanksgiving being late means a lot of people will start listening to holiday music later, or whether more people still start listening to holiday music before Thanksgiving this year because it's late.

"AIWFCIY" is already threatening the top 20 on U.S. Spotify, is even higher on YouTube, and is probably higher at Amazon as well. I could easily see it being top 10 at some of those by next weekend and it (and "RATCT") battling for #1 around Thanksgiving day.

AIWFCIY was #4 last year on 12-2 with 168 points so it will be top 5 most likely on 12-7

I think that's a good point and people could start listening earlier this year. Since Thanksgiving is so late they won't want to wait until the 29th
