One of the funniest parts of the show was when everyone was jamming to "Bawitdaba" as Kid Rock was entering the stage, then a cut to Carrie Underwood and Jesse McCartney sitting around looking bored.

Rap album of the year "Tha Carter II," Lil Wayne "Curtain Call: The Hits," Eminem "King," T.I.
T.I. got rap album but Eminem sold more on the BB 200 It appears that the Rap charts are not simply a subset of the BB200 and that they only count certain outlets that specialize in this genre.

??? @ all these reactions to Chris Brown winning AOTY. I think people may be shocked here because this board is biased to pop music, and people forget that there are other radio formats out there.
2M summed it perfectly. Chris had a pretty good year. He may not have had the best single performance or the best album performance, but overall, he had the best of both worlds, and that is why he won.

I am curious to know is Promiscuous edged Bad Day for the #1 song.... The edge in sales goes to Bad Day I don't have year-to date airplay total but Bad Day spent 30 weeks on the airplay top 75 and got to #5 (but had 27 weeks on the pop 100 airplay and got to #4) Promiscuous spent 25 weeks on the airplay chart and got to #2(but had 30 weeks on the chart and was #1 on Pop 100 airplay) Bad Day was not in the top 3 on the year-end Pop 100 Given that Promiscuous won the Pop 100 I would have to give my vote to Promiscuous for the Hot 100 as well.

They didnt announce the Hot 100 song? (I missed the show)
How were Nelly's rhythmic and R&B stats compared to Daniel's AC and HAC? Nelly's R&B airplay wasnt that great, but she did well on rhythmic I believe, while Daniels' AC/HAC may have been smaller, but could have had greater longevity.

When it comes to the Billboard Year Chris Brown had the best one. 1 #1 single and 3 other Top 10 records all off of the same album. Great amounts of downloads and a platinum selling album.

As a main artist, TI really had only one Top 10 single, and it didnt have great longevity. He had some split points from Shoulder Lean, but that song didnt perform that well, and My Love was late in the year and split points there agin

Yeah Rihanna did better on the Hot 100 than the others (by a margian of "Unfaithful") but Carrie & Mary J sold WAY more albums.

So? The award isn't for who sold more albums, or who did better on the Hot 100, but who did the best overall on both charts.

Mary J. Blige Wins Big At Billboard Music Awards December 05, 2006, 12:00 AM ET
by Katie Hasty
Earning a whopping nine awards, R&B veteran Mary J. Blige dominated the field at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, held last night (Dec. 5) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas . The 35-year-old singer nabbed a number of R&B/hip-hop honors, including album ("The Breakthrough") and song ("Be Without You") of the year, as well as Hot 100 airplay song of the year.
"I've never received this many awards at any time in my career, ever," Blige said backstage. "I remember a time when all my fans were crying and sad and going through hell. Now, we're trying to uplift each other and accept ourselves for who we are, even if nobody else does."
"American Idol" starlet Carrie Underwood and Atlanta rapper T.I. scored five statuettes each. T.I. dominated the rap category, winning artist and album ("King") of the year. Underwood was presented with album of the year for her debut effort, "Some Hearts," and artist of the year honors in both overall and country categories.
Newcomer and urban hitmaker Chris Brown won new artist of the year, as well as artist and male artist of the year. Rock troupe Nickelback also brought home three accolades: artist duo/group of the year, rock album of the year ("All the Right Reasons") and Hot 100 artists duo/or group of the year.
The Fray swept the digital category with three awards, including digital album and digital songs artist of the year. The quartet also worked in a performance of their single "How To Save a Life," which has been prominently featured in the hit ABC drama "Gray's Anatomy."
Rihanna won female artist of the year, female Hot 100 artist of the year and Pop 100 artist of the year categories. "I really can't feel my legs -- this is phenomenal," she said while accepting the trophy for best female artist. "That was a really tough category."
Nelly Furtado, Kenny Chesney, Three Days Grace and the soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical" bagged one award each. Tony Bennett was also presented with the Billboard Century Award by longtime friend Stevie Wonder.
"[Wonder] is one of the best jazz singers in the world," said Bennett modestly. The 80-year-old jazz veteran earned his best charting position on The Billboard 200 earlier this year, with a No. 3 start for "Duets: An American Classic" (RPM/Columbia).
To open the broadcast, Janet Jackson performed a medley of "Pleasure Principle" and "So Excited." Fergie, along with Black Eyed Peas colleague will.i.am, tackled her recent hit "Fergalicious" amid a set decorate with peppermint imagery.
Ludacris and Pharrell teamed to perform the recent Hot 100 No. 1 hit "Money Maker," while Young Jeezy chipped in with his new single, "I Luv It." Blige was in amazingly strong voice on a medley of "Enough Cryin'" and "Take Me As I Am," while Gwen Stefani was flanked by dancers and wooden sheep for her new, yodel-happy single, "Wind It Up."
Courtney Love and the Killers (who were scheduled to perform but had to back out after frontman Brendan Flowers came down with laryngitis) presented the finale, a collaboration between Nickelback, Kid Rock and ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons on the latter group's "Tush." Other presenters during the night included Akon, Danity Kane, Jesse McCartney, Bow Wow, Dave Navarro, Big & Rich, and Paula Abdul.
Finalists and winners were determined by actual performance on Billboard's charts, with sales data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and radio play tracked by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. For a detailed list of winners, click here.

I taped the two hours and watched in about 55 minutes. I love Fergie, but what the hell...she looked like she had a stick up her ass. And Gwen, as much as I want to like the song, it's just not happening....and I loved the first single off of LAMB.
