For the 133 out of the Top 141 markets that aren't embargoed or that I have data from before the embargo for, I gave a format 1 point for being the most popular format in a market and 1 point for having a 10.0 or better rating in a market. The most formats that had a 10.0 or better rating in a market was four in Allentown (Market 70), Spokane (Market 92), and Fayetteville (Market 127). Here are the scores (number of markets it is the most popular format in and national rating in parenthesis):
1. Country 129 (54, 8.4)
2. Adult Contemporary + Soft Adult Contemporary: 61.5 (21.5, 8.8)
3. News/Talk: 43.5 (16.5, 9.2)
4. Urban: 32 (13, 6.1)
5. CHR-Rhythmic: 17 (5, 5.7)
Tied 6. Regional Mexican: 15 (7, 3.2)
Tied 6. CHR-Pop: 15 (3, 5.9)
Tied 8. Talk: 8 (4, 2.0)
Tied 8. Classic Rock: 8 (1, 4.5)
10. Urban Adult Contemporary: 6 (1, 3.0)
Tied 11. Spanish Adult Contemporary: 4 (2, Spanish Contemporary has a 2.4 in the national ratings and Spanish Adult Contemporary is not listed, but judging by the ratings I would say most of the combined rating would go to Spanish Adult Contemporary)
Tied 11. Hot Adult Contemporary: 4 (1, 4.8)
Tied 11. Gospel: 4 (1, 0.9)
14. B/EZ: 3 (2, not in national ratings)
15. Adult Standards: 2 (1, 2.0)
The following formats are tied for 16th, are the most popular format in zero markets, and have a 10.0 or better in one market (national rating in parenthesis):
Spanish News/Talk (listed as Spanish News in the national ratings with a 0.7)
Triple A (0.8)
Hawaiian/Reggae (not in national ratings because it only exists in Honolulu)
Classic Hits (1.4)
Tropical (1.5)
Rock (listed as AOR in the national ratings with a 2.2)
Oldies (5.1)
Adult Contemporary + Soft Adult Contemporary and News/Talk had a tie for the most popular format in one market.
I told you the total and how many times it was the most popular format, so you can calculate how many times it had a 10.0 or better.
The two systems don't have a strong correlation, Country has a higher point total than the next two formats combined, but those two formats are both ahead of Country in the national ratings. CHR-Pop beats CHR-Rhythmic and Urban in the national ratings but Urban and CHR-Rhythmic have more points than CHR-Pop.
