Here is my Personal Top 30 chart for the week of September 21, 2003. I was going to send this one in to Matt to be included in the Pulse 100 tabulations, but I missed the deadline by just a half an hour :( Oh well, so life goes...
LC TC SONG/ARTIST 01 01 Flying Without Wings/Ruben Studdard 02 02 You Got Me/ZoeGirl 03 03 Have You Ever Been In Love/Celine Dion 04 04 If You're Not The One/Daniel Bedingfield 05 05 You Found Me/FFH 06 06 Addicted/Simple Plan 07 07 Are You Happy Now/Michelle Branch 11 08 Smile/Chris Rice 09 09 Dance With My Father/Luther Vandross 08 10 I Showed Her/O-Town 12 11 Girls And Boys/Good Charlotte 14 12 Calling All Angels/Train 10 13 Big Yellow Taxi/Counting Crows f/Vanessa Carlton 17 14 I Heard It Through The Grapevine/Michael McDonald 23 15 Baby I Love U/Jennifer Lopez 15 16 The Remedy (I Won't Worry)/Jason Mraz 18 17 Why Don't You & I/Santana f/Alex Band 13 18 Like A Stone/Audioslave 16 19 One/Faith Hill 24 20 The Boys Of Summer/The Ataris 26 21 There's Gotta Be More To Life/Stacie Orrico 19 22 This Is The Night/Clay Aiken 20 23 You're Still You/Josh Groban 22 24 Say You Will/Fleetwood Mac 21 25 Swing Swing/All-American Rejects 25 26 Right Thurr/Chingy 30 27 So Yesterday/Hillary Duff XX 28 Senorita/Justin Timberlake 27 29 Don't Dream It's Over/Sixpence None The Richer XX 30 Never Leave You (Uh Ohh)/Lumidee
On Deck: Harder To Breathe/Maroon 5 Bright Lights/Matchbox Twenty Peace Where The Heart Is/Jim Brickman f/Collin Raye Sunrise/Simply Red Why Can't I?/Liz Phair Low/Kelly Clarkson Here Without You/3 Doors Down Wrapped/Gloria Estefan We Can/LeAnn Rimes Cab Driver/Daryl Hall
As you can see, my chart moves almost as slow as the A/C chart, especially the upper reaches of the chart. The only thing is, my songs haven't been on the chart as long as most songs on the A/C chart. I'll add the Weeks On Chart column starting next week. I just made the rough drafts tonight, since I've been behind of late. But I wanted to get caught up so I could "join in the fun". So these charts are being written "in real time" instead of several months too late, during which time my opinion of songs that I hate can change for the better and they'd chart unfairly. I'll admit to having several songs like that on my chart this year. But the chart I'm using this week accurately reflects my opinion of the songs that are out right now. American Idol winner Ruben Studdard is on top of the chart while runner-up Clay Aiken is on his way down the chart. But the song did not peak at number two as many of you may suspect. The song peaked two weeks back at number nineteen. I was really PO'ed that the song I liked better flopped worse (on the A/C chart, that is), so that's part of the reason that the Clay Aiken song failed. Had the song been the one to bomb on AT20, it probably would have gone Top Ten. The Top seven is pretty stagnant, with songs by Daniel Bedingfield, Celine Dion and FFH having been on the chart since spring. Simple Plan hasn't been on that long, but it did debut back in June. Well, OK, I guess that's spring, seeing that it made its first appearance on my chart on June 8. The ZoeGirl song is rather new compared to the songs around it. As you can see, Christian music is making a comeback to my chart. Last year, on the R&R boards, there was a monthly feature called CHR Flashback and I'd always post a chart from 2001, a year in which Christian music abounded on my chart. In 2000, I discovered a Christian music station over in South Bend, a city twenty miles from where I live, and I really liked it. But I still didn't put Christian music on my chart, unless there was a song that I really liked. But that changed in 2001, especially when I began attending church weekly. Plus, I got a new car that I trusted to travel more than five miles away from home and spent much of my weekends driving around, amazed at all the LaPorte County roads that were so unfamiliar (although my Dad and I had probably traveled them fifteen years before when we drove around shooting the bull). Anyway, let's break from my life story and return to the chart commentary. Yeah, Christian music is becoming part of the chart again, especially now that I'm listening to another Christian station that has a weekly countdown. I'll try to listen to that every week and Christian music will probably once again become plentiful on my chart after being absent for more than a year. Poised to become the next number one song is "Baby I Love You" by J-Lo, her best hit yet. On this chart, it takes the biggest jump up and should be a cinch to hit the Top Ten next week. It's entirely possible that I'll tire of the song before it hits the Top (since, again, these charts are being written in "real time"), but that may not happen, especially since it doesn't look like it's going to do well nationally, and I doubt they'll release it to A/C radio. If I do get tired of that, contenders for the number one spot after Ruben vacates that spot include the ZoeGirl hit and the Chris Rice song. You people more familiar with Christian music are probably wondering why "Word Of God (Speak)" by MercyMe isn't on my chart, seeing as the song is still sitting on top of the 20: The Countdown Magazine chart for a record-breaking eleventh week. Well, I'm not quite as impressed with that song as the Christian A/C audience apparently is. That could change somewhere down the line, but it has to be before the song falls off the chart. Once that happens, the song is ineligible to chart. Unless, of course, it gets released to the Pop chart and, given what happened to "I Can Only Imagine", that's not out of the question. (ICOI, by the way, peaked at number fifteen on my chart in early 2002. I just haven't gotten around to re-releasing it to my chart yet. Well, that's about all there is to say about this chart. I'll be back next week with my next chart which, hopefully, I'll be able to include with next week's Pulse 100 chart tabulations.

IshOnTheRadio, is that "Genie In A Bottle" a cover of Christina Aguilera? Yep! It hit Top 10 in the UK a couple of weeks ago. And Sunny, your signature is the most horrific thing I have ever seen in my life

Nick's Notes: Hearing local radio play Rancid this week (I couldn't believe it) bumped them up to #3.
Listening to my copy of Sing the Sorrow this week gave "Death of Seasons" a decent jump up the chart. "Smothered" doesn't have much room to grow this week. "St. Anger" finally gives way after lack of public attention catches up with it. When you don't hear a song enough, it's harder to move it up the chart. "Violent Mood Swings," my favorite track off the new Spineshank album, debuts in a big way.
I have a feeling "Weak and Powerless" won't make it into the Top 20. Nearly all the other songs on the record are better than this one.
After reading the latest between Sevendust's Morgan Rose and the inspiration for "Enemy," Coal Chamber's Dez Fafara, the article posted a link to mp3's from Dez's new band, DevilDriver. "I Could Care Less" is already just as good (and potentially better) than the best song off Coal Chamber's 3rd and final album. Very exciting stuff for me. Puts the poor quality of "Enemy" in perspective, having generally preferred Coal Chamber's music to Sevendust's.
"Hey Ya!" debuts in a huge way due to abundant video airplay in the past week.
Boysetsfire keep hanging in there because I saw the video for the second time in the past week on MTV2's Extreme Rock. (The first time I saw the video was the week before.) Busta's lookin' for his first Top 40 hit on my chart, due to strong airplay for what has to be one of the 10 best videos of this year.
That's all for now. This week's chart will be up shortly.
