exactly. and then its not even about wanting some1 to dance all the time. For example. Ms. Patti Labelle or Areatha Franklin can tear it up and entertain with just their vocals, Alicia Certainly can not. Half the time her voice is gone and she is shouting. She is just so overrated. Alicia can definitely entertian with her voice when she uses it right. I agree that isn't pleasant on the ears when she's hollering or yelling, but she's something when she sings in her lower tone, which is something that I hope she does more of on her third album.

She's always hollering because her voice isn't developed enough to be able to perform the songs she's tries to... sure the studio can cover up that she has no soul and can't sing, but the concerts don't lie. I love it when people try to be deep and are only about as deep as an inch of water.

I hear that her voice is actually better live.

I hear that her voice is actually better live. In the words of Mya from "girlfriends" "oh HELL no!" She yells entirely too much when she sings live. its not pleasing to the ears.

Overrated Usher Kayne West Jill Scott Underrated Ciara Beyonce John Legend Uhh...question: How in the hell is Jill Scott overrated? Urban AC plays her all the time The urban counterparts literally crapped on her terribly in favor of a hip-hop induced urban chart.

Usher, Ciara, Lil Jon --> i can't tell you how much i agree with you...i was in LOVE with "Blower's Daughter" last year and was quite surprised to learn that its the song used throughout Julia Robert's new movie "Closer" maybe things are looking up! I agree that Britney is underrated...so much emphasis is put on what she's not that people are blind to the fact that she's made some of the most QUALITY pop music! Sure she doesnt have a 5 octave range but her songs are what make her special. Britney is Britney...nuff said! others that deserve more recognition: Bonnie Mckee, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mandy Moore, Kylie Minogue...too many to mention

Is it live, or is it Alicia Keys shattering my glasses? Sorry guys but... Alicia Key's sounds like a dying animal when she sings.... so OVERRATED! She was OVERRATED when she came out. I just hate when artists are "faux deep".

Overrated Modest Mouse (I just don't think they have it, despite two good songs I've heard) Jet The Shins (because of what I've heard from that dude who made Garden State) The current Seattle music scene overall Hoobastank's ballads: The Reason and Disappear (Please try not to do these too often Hoobastank) KNDD
Underrated Snow Patrol Bands from New York City: Interpol Elefant Coheed and Cambria Midtown The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (I guess) ---------------------------------- Hoobastank's non-ballads: Out of Control and Same Direction (I don't care if they sound just like the first album, I still thought they were good)

As for Modest Mouse, they're just good at writing a good song. I wouldn't necessarily write off Modest Mouse if all you've heard if Float On and Ocean Breathes Salty, although I love those songs. I'd say go pick up Good News For People Who Love Bad News and The Moon and Anarctica. Those two cds should be and will be considered classics in the future. And as for The Shins. New Slang was an album cut from the cd before the last cd they put out. So I'd give their newer material a listen to if I were you.

New Slang was an album cut from the cd before the last cd they put out. So I'd give their newer material a listen to if I were you. I listen to KNDD all the time. It's my favorite radio station in the Seattle area (where I am living right now). I think the idea behind it is fantastic. But I also think it has its fair amount of flaws, such as snubbing certain songs and artists, while overplaying others. But they could be improved. I guess I just miss WXRK too much. Both stations have their good and bad points and my fantasy would be to combine the two stations with me at the helm to fine-tune it to perfection, perfection to me at least. The two Modest Mouse songs I was referring to were "Ocean Breathes Salty" and "The World At Large". I should've given "Float On" its own separate Overrated category since I didn't think it was nearly as good as everyone else did. But it just seems like for every good song I've heard from them, I've heard a not-so-good one as well. I'd say I've heard about 10 or so of their songs, though I can't name most of them. My overall impression is that they're just average, but that can always change. I've heard "Kissing The Lipless" and "So Says I" by the Shins. I thought they both really sucked. Again, it's possible I just got two rotten apples and the rest of their stuff is genius, but right now, that's not my impression. But as I have said, "New Slang" is a cool song.

I don't really look at The World At Large as a song that defines Modest Mouse. Its more of just the intro piece for the whole concept album that Good News For People Who Love Bad News tends to be (the whole life/death/afterlife philosophy pushed through the album).
My favorites on Good News For People Who Love Bad News that I'd say listen to before you write them off are Bury Me With It and The View. Black Cadillacs is also a good song. As for other material, I suggest Gravity Rides Everything, 3rd Planet and Tiny Cities Made of Ashes from their Moon and Anarctica cd.

OVERRATED- Most of these bands of the retro-rock thingy (namely Jet, The Thrills, The Von Bondies, The Futureheads, The Libertines, Kings Of Leon, etc.)
- Most of the post-Britpop bands NME hails as the best thing in the world (i.e., Snow Patrol, Keane, The Coral, Athlete, etc.)
- Practically all the bands from the post-post-post grunge shit around
Yes, rock music, for the most part, is as essential nowadays as a museum.
