I was just simply speculating because this is the most Pop-friendly single they have ever released besides Aerials. Aerials was a no-brainer at that time though because hiphop and bubble gum ruled Pop stations. PDs definitely have more incentive to add harder rock songs that go for adds lately depending on record label decisions, so it might not be that farfetched. SOAD fans might kill ppl, but labels are looking for sales, Serj just remixed Galang by MIA, and this format is def on the decline. Its something that might happen.

I went to Circuit City for this album because it had the lowest price, plus they threw in a free Tshirt. When I went there on Wednesday, they were sold out of the standard version. I bought one of the dual discs as a Christmas gift because I don't like dual discs and the one I bought it for doesn't care either way. I had to order the standard CD online because I didn't have time to check the other CC in town, the following day was Thanksgiving, the day after that was Black Friday during which I wouldn't touch CC with a mile long pole because they eliminated their "every CD for $10" sale that they do every black friday, which made me mad! Then my CD arrives on Monday and it didn't even come with the Tshirt they led me to think would be included, plus it was $2 more plus shipping. Let's just say I'm in no hurry to recommend Circuit City to all my friends right now. But enough ranting.
Good thing the CD owns; I've played it through 6 times since this Tuesday. The only time it has left the CD player has been to replace it with Mezmerize so that I could experience the two albums becoming one. And I love the way the albums kind of 'hook' together to form the single package. I always wondered why the packaging for Mezmerize opened backwards, and never even saw this coming.
My top pick for next single would be "Dreaming". With all due respect for "Lonely Day" and "Lost In Hollywood", and even "Hypnotize", what's the deal with all this mellowness to hit the airwaves. They did fine with "B.Y.O.B.". They need to be able to hit the airwaves and slam the radio into the wall every once in a while.

I love "Dreaming", but the background vocals in the chorus really really annoy me! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the randomness and weirdness of SOAD, but the "la, la, la's" in "Dreaming" sound really bad. I agree, I don't like how all their singles are so mellow. They need to release something heavy to radio. "Kill Rock N' Roll" and "Vicinity of Obscenity" should be considered for singles. "Vicinity of Obscenity" may be too out there there for radio though. That's probably more of a good thing though.

I had read it, but still didn't know why Mesmerize opened backwards. Upon reading that "Lonely Day" and "Lost in Hollywood" were prospective singles, I too felt they'd be putting out way too much mellow stuff. I mean even "Question!" wasn't that particularly hard. I'm liking "Kill Rock N Roll" a lot at the moment, especially the sugary chorus harmonies when the chords change. Other than the ridiculous ditties, most of the hard songs are too drainingly epic, from what I remember. Overall, I'm thinking I like Mezmerize better so far.

Since when has VH1 been playing SOAD videos? They just added "Hypnotize" to their playlist like a week ago. and yay to more mellow singles.

They're playing Korn too, and they're adding Fall Out Boy next week ("Sugar"... and yeah, I know it's obscenely late).
As far as this song goes, it's only grown on me a little since first hearing it. On my personal chart, they'll have had four top 50 misses ("Boom", "Cigaro", "B.Y.O.B." and this) sandwiched around a #1 ("Question!") since "Innervision", a top 10 hit. (And it's not that I don't like them; Toxicity had three top 5 hits on my PC.)

Hey, does anyone know if any stores are doing a special Mesmerize-Hypnotize discount? Like get $5 off one when you purchase both, or something like that. Because it seems incredibly dubious that no stores would consider doing that. Or the label for not thinking it would be an effective marketing tool for attracting johnny-come-latelys of the band. (And the only reason I don't own Mesmerize yet was because I didn't get it for my birthday, and decided to wait to see if a deal like that would come along.) I'll probably just see if I can get them both for Christmas, but I can see the potential possibility of getting one without the other (especially if it's Hypnotize), which would be pretty disappointing.
And it occurs to me I haven't commented on this song. It's not bad. I actually thought it was a Blink-182 song before Serj came in with Tianamen Square and I knew exactly what it was. This is a great example of how easily catchy all their songs are. With any other band, it could just be a mediocre attempt at a mellow song, but System takes it to another level, particular with that awesome refrain they use, which ironically acts like an ad slogan jingle. Once you hear it for the hundredth time, you're hooked, except with them it's a good thing.
I do wish they did something better for the video, but seeing how it's really a de facto third single, I can understand why they would do something simple like a live video. And as far as live videos go, it's one of the better ones (especially the painting effects that eventually form the album cover), but that helicopter at the beginning teased me into thinking there'd be more to it than what they did, which irked me a little.

Since when has VH1 been playing SOAD videos? They just added "Hypnotize" to their playlist like a week ago. Yeah, this is unsurprising. Apparently Vh1 decided that their zero-tolerance policy against all things uncontemporary was a failure, so plan B was to stab everything they've ever stood for in the back. That'd be fine if it was just a music channel, but now they have all these shows designed strictly to diss all the songs that used to be Vh1's lifeblood. I just think that's unbearable. One would think that'd be a good idea, but I haven't seen such a thing. Media play had a deal for the first week out where you could buy Hypnotize and get either/or Toxicity and System Of A Down for $8.99, but nothing about Mezmerize. I've been noticing lately it's getting a lot more difficult to find a good deal on CD's beyond their first week out. Probably because of all the digital music being sold. Which sucks for people like me who still prefer their music on a physical medium. I LOVE the randomness and weirdness of SOAD, but the "la, la, la's" in "Dreaming" sound really bad. Hmm, I don't see how those sound out of place at all. Other than the ridiculous ditties, most of the hard songs are too drainingly epic, from what I remember. Overall, I'm thinking I like Mezmerize better so far. I agree but don't consider any of it a bad thing. I'd have Mezmerize about a ¼ star better at this point.

I actually would rank Hypnotize higher than Mezmerize.

Hey, that was a pretty quick turnaround there, astericky. LOL! It always takes me a while to get into albums. After listening to both albums back to back several times, I realised that "Hypnotize" is actually the better album.

I like this song, but the Hypnotize album isn't that good. I prefer "Mesmerize." That album was one my top albums of 2005.
Anywho, is there any news on a second single from "Hypnotize?"
