This will be the second single from "All The Right Reasons".
I think this is a safe choice, as the band really seems to understand how to balance their traditional heavier fanbase and their Top 40 fanbase, and this will certainly give them another Active Rock smash.
Out of all the heavy rockers, I'd prefer "Fight For All The Wrong Reasons", however.
Meanwhile, for U.K fans, they can expect "Far Away" as their second single, which is likely to become a future single here as well.
My Predictions:
Active Rock: #1 Alternative: #17
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It'll probably be another Active Rock #1, but I know they won't be sending this to CHR/Pop. "Photograph" will probably last until January or February at which point they'll send "Far Away" to CHR/Pop for the spring.

"Photograph" will probably last until January or February at which point they'll send "Far Away" to CHR/Pop for the spring. No, "Animals" is too loud for CHR/Pop, just as "Figure You Out" was for their last album. Unlike 3 Doors Down, who have failed to satisfy their rock base that lifted the band into mainstream to begin with with a number of ballads and lighter songs, Nickelback have the right idea in balancing the appeals to both bases. "Someday" was an effective lead single that was loud enough for Rock but light enough for mainstream, then "Figure You Out" was all hardcore, then another borderline single ("Feelin' Way Too Damn Good" and a final hard rock punch ("Because of You") They're continuing to understand their bases, and so this is how I think their single releases should go: * 1: "Photograph"2: "Animals"3: Either "Far Away" or "Savin' Me" (doesn't really matter, either one will hit big) 4: DUAL RELEASE (the third single candidate not released to CHR/Pop and Hot AC, "Fight For All The Wrong Reasons" to Active Rock, Alternative)* "If Everyone Cared" also sounds like a single, but it's unlikely they'll release three ballads from the same album if they will continue to balance their pop-friendly releases with the grittier material. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This is a good choice for Rock, though it's not my favorite, I thought they were going to go with "Side Of A Bullet" since several stations had already added that anyway. Basically, I agree with everything SingingSparrow said, that's a good prediction as how to the singles go and I hope that's what they do, I think this will be their biggest album single wise.

I'm not disappointed with this decision, but I really hope Side Of A Bullet is a single at some point.

I'm not disappointed with this decision, but I really hope Side Of A Bullet is a single at some point. Releasing "Side of a Bullet" would definitely win lasting credibility over their heavier listeners, no doubt about that. However, it isn't one of the more immediate tracks from the record. I think it could actually make a great "motivational single", and by that I mean it can convince hard rock listeners even with more Top 40 singles than ever before that though in some areas Nickelback are going soft, they're not abandoning their Rock listeners and are loyal to their roots. Really, most tracks from this album can do something in one form or another, with the exception of "Rockstar". You have "Someone That You're With", still filled with electrical punches but more mid-paced like a Switchfoot rocker, "Follow You Home", another Active Rock-friendly rocker, and "Next Contestant", which also is aggressive but may actually even appeal to mainstream audiences to some degree with the funny barfight lyrics. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think "Someone That You're With" or "Next Contestant" would make excellent last singles because they appeal to all of their formats and they would be huge on Rock and another "Too Bad" on Pop and Hot AC.

and "Next Contestant", which also is aggressive but may actually even appeal to mainstream audiences to some degree with the funny barfight lyrics. Its funny that you mention that becuase I thought "Animals" would be the heavy song that appeals to mainstream/pop audiences due to the lyrical content (girl sneaks out of house, fools around with boyfriend, gets caught by dad). "Next Contestant" should fit that mold just fine, although I can't figure out if the girlfriend in the song is a stripper or just a hot chick at a bar. Both of those songs, as well as "Follow You Home" & "Side Of A Bullet" are surefire Top five hits on Active Rock & Rock. In fact, I say milk the album and release all four of the tracks to rock formats. Combined with the appeal that "Far Away" & "Savin' Me" will have on Pop & Hot AC, I think this album will be a huge seller all through 2006.

I do very much agree with you here in that that could indeed be a winning radio strategy. I also agree that, though I originally thought Nickelback would continue to experience a significant downward spiral prior to this album being released, now I can actually see this album selling almost exactly as much as "The Long Road" did, possibly even a little bit more if indeed "Far Away" and "Savin' Me" become smashes at Top 40. Originally I was assuming the band wanted to continue to be purely meat and potatoes rock and have the sole Top 40 charter on each record, but clearly they're shifting course and I think we'll be seeing Nickelback around longer than originally thought. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Love this song for an Active Rock release. This group impresses me on the business side and the music side. Love the album.

One thing I've noticed about Nickelback is that they've gotten bolder with their lyrical content with each album, kinda like they're trying to see what they can get away with. Choosing this as a single seems to be proof of that. I like it.

Choosing this as a single seems to be proof of that. I like it. I totally agree with you on that. I thought the content was a little extreme for radio, mostly the second verse, but I love the song so I'm happy that they decided for this to be the second single.

I'm actually surprised they released this one. I like it, but didn't think it would be a single for some reason.
What are the overall chances of "Far Away" being released as a single on pop? It seems a sure-fire top 10 at least. My first thought was #1 for 2006 but that's getting a little ahead of myself. ;)

I'd actually like to have seen them release Side of a Bullet. However, I wouldn't really like Far Away. I think If Everyone Cared is actually better.

I'm actually surprised they released this one. I like it, but didn't think it would be a single for some reason. Yeah, it reminds me of Flat on the Floor off the last album. Hmm, first Def Leppard releases a song called Photograph, then Nickelback...then Dep Leppard releases a song called Animal, then Nickelback releases Animals...

Hmm, first Def Leppard releases a song called Photograph, then Nickelback...then Dep Leppard releases a song called Animal, then Nickelback releases Animals... LOL, that logic would dictate that "Rockstar" would be the third rock release, as it's the only title even close to "Let's Get Rocked".

I'm surprised too, I thought "Side Of A Bullet" was going to be released since it had already been getting some adds. From what I understand "Far Away" will be the 2nd single for Pop and Hot AC, a video is being shot for it. I also believe that that song has potential to be the #1 song of 2006. I'd be disappointed if "Rockstar" was to be a single, it's my least favorite song on the album.

I am falling in love with this song. They always seem to satisfy my hard rock craving after mushy stuff like "Photograph"

Glad to see they're not abandoning their rock/alternative fans. Reading the lyrics just makes me love the song even more.

Nickelback will be touring with Trapt for US dates at the beginning of next year and with Live for Canadian dates.

Good choice to me, they are my two favorite rock bands, but I probably won't be seeing them because I don't go to concerts.

I've been listening to this song a lot lately. The words are crazy! I am supremely impressed with this album. It sucks that it's fizzling out already on Alternative. Just barely made it into the top 20. I guess that was expected though.

My Predictions: Active Rock: #1Alternative: #17
Looks like this might turn out to be exactly right. Wasn't it #17 Alternative on the final update last night? And on Active Rock, it doesn't have to go much farther for #1.

"Animals" is the best sex song ever. 'Nuff said.
