Your biggest glaring problem with these is (well first of all I don't know what you're trying to do. If you're going for the classics, I don't know about "Indian Flute"), you're including to many recents songs, many of which weren't even huge hits and for a lot of artists, you're not even putting their bit hits. "Gimme Some Mo" for Busta?

well it's your CD, so do what you want.... although you're making this for someone else, so I don't know if it matters what you hate or not.

Ah, finally one that I know a whole lot about. Basically with this I was trying to pick contemporary R&B that has a more hard-edged sound, and some of the earlier songs I picked I see as sort of the beginning of Urban. The ones that weren't hits are there b/c for me they really qualify the sound. A lot of them were bigger hits at R&B than on the Hot 100, too.
8. Urban
Family Affair - Mary J. Blige So Gone - Monica Bump 'n Grind - R. Kelly Milkshake - Kelis Girl Talk - TLC Where My Girls At? - 702 Let Me Be The One - Mary J. Blige ft. 50 Cent Caught Out There - Kelis Dance Tonight - Lucy Pearl You Bring Me Joy - Mary J. Blige I Love You - Faith Evans Why Don't We Fall In Love? - Amerie If Your Girl Only Knew - Aaliyah Downton (Street Radio Mix) - SWV Ignition (Remix) - R. Kelly Mrs. Jackson - Outkast Trippin' - Total

"Let Me Be The One"?!! Alright, I'm lost. I think you're making a collection of your favorite overlooked songs on some of these current discs.

You have so many duplicate artists on that. I think it would be better more spread out among different artists. Some other disco hits to check out: "It Must Be Love," Alton McClain & Destiny "It Seems To Hang On," Ashford & Simpson "I'm Every Woman," Chaka Khan "Got To Be Real," Cheryl Lynn hmm you need some Chic... how about "Good Times" or, my favorite "I Want Your Love,".. or go for "Le Freak" if you want I don't know how you feel about Diana Ross but you could go with either of her two disco #1's, "Love Hangover" or "Upside Down" throw some Earth, Wind & Fire on there. "Boogie Wonderland," "September," and "Let's Groove" would probably be their most popular disco cuts to this day. you could also go for "Shining Star" if you want. i also like "Fall In Love With Me". "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)," GQ "The Love I Lost," Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes "Boogie Nights," Heatwave "This Time Baby," Jackie Moore "Runaway Love," Linda Clifford "Love Sensation," Loleatta Holloway (THIS ONE SONG IS THE REASON FOR ALL 90's DANCE) of course "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen got to put some early Phyllis Hyman. why not go for "You Know How To Love Me"? some of the early Shalamar singles could pass for disco. you can take a listen to "Second Time Around," "Make That Move," and "Take That To The Bank" and see how you feel about those. Sister Sledge were huge with disco. i wouldn't go for the all out cheesiness of "We Are Family" of course, so why not tone the cheese down a tiny bit and go for "He's The Greatest Dancer" "Just A Touch Of Love," Slave (You've heard this sampled absolutely everywhere) "Best Of My Love" by The Emotions is sometimes considered disco... sometimes not. still spent several weeks at #1 back in 1977 so far i like "He's the greatest dancer" the most out of the ones I'd never heard. If anyone has more songs, not just disco, any, that are great-- tell me! i've heard most everything since the 90s, but prior to that there's a ton i don't know

You could add Bell Biv DeVoe to New Jack Swing.
Also some Motown suggestions since I think you have too much stuff from The Supremes. :)
Mary Wells - "My Guy" Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - "Jimmy Mack" Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - "Nowhere To Run" The Four Tops - "Reach Out I'll Be There" The Four Tops - "Standing In The Shadows Of Love" The Four Tops - "Bernadette" The Four Tops - "Baby I Need Your Loving" Junior Walker & the All Stars - "Shotgun" Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back" Jackson 5 - "ABC" Jackson 5 - "I'll Be There" The Marvelettes - "Please Mr. Postman" Marvin Gaye - "What's Going On" Marvin Gaye - "Let's Get It On"
In fact you could just use the recent tracklisting for the Motown #1s collection just released.

10. Classic Soul
Not Gon' Cry - Mary J. Blige Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & The Pips Soon As I Get Home - Faith Evans Me & Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul Exhale (Shoop Shoop) - Whitney Houston I'm Going Down - Rose Royce I Wish I Wasn't - Heather Headley And I'm Telling You - Jennifer Holliday Nobody's Supposed To Be Here - Deborah Cox You Are My Friend - Patti Labelle You Put A Move On My Heart - Tamia Love T.K.O. - Teddy Pendergrass Vanishing - Mariah Carey Giving You The Best That I Got - Anita Baker Why I Love You So Much - Monica Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye Grapevyne - Brownstone Feel The Fire - Peabo Bryson
This disc alternates an 90s artist singing "straight up" R&B/Soul, with 60s/70s/80s artists also doing Soul. It seems to work well.

You seem to be repeating the same problems on each of these compilations.
1) Most of the songs are of the past decade. 2) Repetition of the same artists on one cd. I could see the point if they were all essential songs that reflected greatly on the genre - but that rarely seems the case here. 3) Placement of obscure songs that are similar to songs already existing on the compilation(s), while more diverse songs that were less obscure are omitted.
Since the teacher isn't American (from what I gathered), I guess she won't notice; but that wasn't the point of the cds, was it?
Aside from that, this is a pretty good set of cds you have here. Anyone would appreciate getting such an awesome gift as this, especially if they're not overly familiar with the genre(s).
Oh, and I never knew the genre of 'New Jack Swing' even existed; but a good number of the songs on that cd were my favorites from the 90s. Such great music back then, today's R&B and [c]rap can't compare.

England! And since it's near France, where his French teacher lives, it would be a good idea to change it to Billie's version. I think it was a B-side to one of Billie's Top 5 hits in the U.K.

13. Gospel
Keep the Faith - Faith Evans You - Badboy Family Take My Hand, Precious Lord - Mahalia Jackson His Eye Is On The Sparrow - Lauryn Hill Jesus Is A Love Song - Karen Clark-Sheard I'm Gonna Be Ready - Yolanda Adams Speak To My Heart - Donnie McClurkin Wholy Holy - Aretha Franklin Somebody Bigger Than You & I - Whitney Houston 7 Crew I'm Still Holding On (Live) - Monica Nothing Without You - Karen Clark-Sheard ft. Faith Evans Shackles (Praise You) - Mary Mary Stomp (Remix) - Kirk Franklin Oh, Happy Day - Mahalia Jackson Tomorrow - Tamia
I know, this leaves off most great names in gospel, but I don't really have that much, there are some standards on here though. And I tried to pick a lot of different sounds, from more classic in the Church sound, to Kirk Franklin, to the laid back groove like "Nothing Without You".

For Gospel, try "Lay Down" by Melanie and the Edwin Hawkins singers. The Edwin Hawkins Singers did a great job on "Oh Happy Day", which was big in 1969. Try something by Al Green. For pop or rock songs with a gospel feel, you might try "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner and Madonna's "Like a Prayer". Even one of the Evanescence songs backed by a choir.
For funk, you ought to include some songs by the Ohio Players, Earth, Wind & Fire, Parliament, Wild Cherry, the Gap Band, Johnny Taylor and Wilson Pickett.
I'd include "Fantasy" by EW&F and "Good Times" by Chic for disco.

Trin-i-tee 5:7's "Holla" for the Gospel CD! Definitely. Or maybe "My Body" if you'd rather go for a slow jam.
