Inspired by the American Idol Favorite Performances thread this one is to see who likes who from the 3 seasons. Rank your favorite contestants from the 3 seasons, tell us why you like 'em, etc.
My Top 12 (I'm gonna do it like the show. :) )
12. Fantasia Barrino (Season 3) 11. Justin Guarini (Season 1) 10. Trenyce (Season 2) 09. Kimberly Caldwell (Season 2) 08. Jon Peter Lewis (Season 3) 07. Joshua Gracin (Season 2) 06. Kimberly Locke (Season 2) 05. Tamyra Gray (Season 1) 04. Latoya London (Season 3) 03. Amy Adams (Season 3) (The final 3 in season 3 should have been her, Diana, and Latoya) 02. Diana DeGarmo (Season 3) (Wonderful talent, great personality, charming, charismatic, and only 16!) 01. Clay Aiken (Season 2) (He is the ultimate Idol IMO)
Final tally... Season 1- Tamyra, Justin (2) Season 2- Clay, Kim L, Joshua, Kim C, Trenyce (5) Season 3- Diana, Amy, Latoya, JPL, Fantasia (5)
This is based strictly on American Idol-- if I included solo careers Kelly Clarkson would definitely make it into the top 5, but on her season I thought she was overrated and blah!

I believe these are the only contestants I've ever really cared for much. LaToya was pretty good vocally, but I just never really jumped on board. Same with Ruben.

Based strictly on AI performances, my top-5 would be:
1. Clay Aiken (vocally, the strongest, most pure-voiced and flawless singer to come through the competition) 2. Kelly Clarkson (the best interpretive singer who demonstrated the most stylistic range) 3. Fantasia Barrino (the most interesting singer to come through the competition) 4. Rickey Smith 5. Tamyra Gray
Taking careers into consideration, well, I would probably have the same top-3 (despite the fact that Fantasia's first year post-Idol has yet to unfold, consider it a vote of confidence!). I don't know that anyone else has particularly impressed me with what s/he has done post-Idol, even though I like Tamyra's album.

I think Fantasia's amazing talent makes all the other contestants obsolete. So my list is
1. Fantasia

Kelly Clarkson is by far the best to come along so far I enjoyed Clay Aiken a bit as well. Tamyra Gray had a great voice but in my opinion did not release a good cd so... Same with Kim Locke-loved her, but her cd is sucky No one this year has amazed me, though I COULD see a few decent pop cds come out of it.

I don't really watch the show but I love Kelly Clarkson's CD, and Ashley Hartman from Season 1. Ashley is amazing. She has a great personality and she looks awesome. In case anybody is wondering, she finished one film, "Abominable" and will be shooting another film, "Mystic Blood." You can listen to a clip of a song she recorded on her official site: www.ashleyhartman.comThere will be a new layout coming soon, so yeah, excuse the layout.

The more I think about it...the more crappy season 3 becomes. I can think back on 3-4 people from each of the seasons that I thought were good...season 3? I didnt even really like the winners

I didn't watch season 1... but comparing Season 2 to Season 3... 3 is terrible. Sure, there is some good singers, but the bad ones are just sooo bad. There was parts to the show that were not as good as before, either. 'Idol' tends to favor contestants... I don't like that at all... on any season. But I also don't like that the semi-finals are not piano only anymore. The contestants had to really show off their voice a bit more, with only the accompany of a piano... and it made a bit more of a transition aspect to the show.

That does put the vocalist on the spot. I'd be interested to see that kind of audition. And from what I've seen and heard of the others my list only has one name on it: Kelly Clarkson

Based on American Idol Performances:
1. Kelly Clarkson 2. Tamyra Gray 3. Clay Aiken 4. RJ Helton 5. LaToya London 6. Josh Gracin 7. Ruben Studdard 8. Kimberley Locke
Based on Post-Idol Careers:
1. Kelly Clarkson 2. Josh Gracin 3. Tamyra Gray 4. RJ Helton
I placed the "Post-Idol" contestants in order of how well I think they've handled the artistic oppurtunities they've been given and the quality of their music, not necessarily whether or not I listen to them. I sincerely wish I could appreciate Josh's country music or RJ's Christian music more than I do, but unfortunately those genres just don't appeal to me. However, both have done well for themselves and not made poor quality music (like Clay Aiken, whose post-Idol success is solely based on good sales and not good music).

Based on Idol Performances:
1. KELLY CLARKSON - 'Stuffs like that there', 'natural Woman', 'Walk on by'......The list goes on and on. She brought it every single time: charisma, artisty and true talent. 2.Trenyce - The most under-rated idol alumni ever. Come on, if John Stevens can get a record deal, why can't this talented vocalist? She was powerful, stylish and original. The only thing that seperated her from Kelly is personality (Trenyce lacked it a bit).
BIG GAP 3.Clay Aiken - He had charisma going for him all along. I still think he should have been American Idol numero dos. 4.Tamyra Gray - A little bit over-rated but 'House is not a home' is pretty good. I wouldn't say it's the best TV performance ever, tho (just like what Simon said). 5.Fantasia -Also a little over-rated. But she was talented and she was at least interesting.
Post-Idol Careers: 1. KELLY CLARKSON- The fact that she's the only AI alumni capable of preducing hits after hits is a huge testament to Kelly's amazing post-idol success. If she releases the right singles, she's about to become as big as Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and the such. Expect to see her grab a few grammy nominations next year.
2. Tamyra Gray- Poor sales, but her album was pretty good. It was better than 'Tahnkful' but not better than 'Breakaway'.
3.Fantasia - I still can't believe she worked with Missy Elliot, R. Kelly, et. al. She needs to produce a hit tho.
4. Ruben Studdard - 'Sorry 2004' was a huge rNb hit. Too bad he wasn't able to follow it up properly.
5. Kimberly Locke- '8th world wonder' was a modest hit. She almost became the next Kelly. Her album could have been more jazzy (instead it was more pop-ish/ country-ish).
Honorable Mention: Clay Aiken- He has the most units sold, but the number of people who actually have the cd is a huge question mark. I bet the hard-core Claymates have at least 2 cds. lol. Most successful sales-wise, but his cds are jsut horrible. Come on, who seriously believe that 'Invisible' was a good track?
