That season is here again for the summer songs but what will reign surpreme? What will be the Hot In Herre or Crazy In Love for this year?
Has the song already been released? Is it coming?
Here are some of my early picks.
-Leave (Get Out) - Jojo -Heaven - Los Lonely Boys -(I Got That) Boom Boom - Britney Spears (if it makes summer...)

I honestly don't know what song is going to have that much crossover appeal that it will be summer song of the year.

Nina Sky - Move Ya Body (probably not "the" song of the summer, but one of them)

I think "Accidentally In Love" will definitely be the Hot AC single of the summer. I wouldn't be surprised is Los Lonely Boys's "Heaven" picks up a lot too.
As for the pop/R&B-ish single, if Gwen Stefani's comes out soon, I expect that to blow up.

I think for the song of the summer we should be looking for a gaining song that hasn't already gotten as much airplay as "Naughty Girl" has. I think "Naughty Girl" is out too soon for the song of the summer. On the other hand, "Everytime" is gaining and "(I Got That) Boom Boom" may be too late for the song of the summer if it is the fourth single.

"Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys is a good guess. It's gaining steadily (even though it's quite old by now) has a rather lazy, summery sound, and seems to have broad appeal.

I think "dip it low" as a chance if she performs at a few Major events like the BET awards.
"welcome back" will definately be a song fo the summer though....Mase was able to capture what he had back in the late 90's.
"on fire" this will be Loyd Banks version of "in the club" its doing really well....eventhough it wont be as HUGE as "in the club" it will definately do well for him and sell his album 1st week.
If Jive releases "i got that boom boom" in July it could be a late summer hit for Britney but unfortunately she doesnt have the massive cross over appeal but it would definately be a rhythmic/pop crossover hit.....but even with the ying yang twins it wont appeal to urban.
"tear it up" is gettin alot of play in my state and it sounds like a good summer song but it has already dropped on billboard so it doesnt look like it has a chance.
But i think right now Mase is the HEAVY contender for song of the summer......
Oh and "naughty girl" is about done...no chance for being a summer hit. I barely hear it on the radio anymore.
EDIT: Janet - All nite has HUGE possiblities. It is a str8 up dance anthem and if the remix takes off as well as the regular has with pop it will DEFINATELY be a song of the summer.

How could I forget? FREAK-A-LEEK! naw, by july it'll be moving way down if not out. it's got to be something that's not out yet... i think josh may be right w/ the gwen stefani single, if it is hot. it defn. will not be nina sky, sorry. and "naughty girl" is ALREADY moving down

My picks are.....
Jojo "Leave(Get Out)" Janet Jackson "All Nite(Don't Stop)" Britney Spears "Everytime" Twista Feat. R. Kelly "So Sexy" Mase "Welcome Back" Play-N-Skillz "Freak" ....and as bad as it is and as much as I dislike it Lloyd Banks "On Fire"
I would endorse some of the other songs mentioned but the songs are either too old to be summer song of the year material..or they haven't been released or won't be released in time to be considered summer song material.

I'm on the fence w/ "welcome back" but HOW DID I FORGET about "all nite (dont stop)" if it takes off like it deserves... looks shaky for taking off outside of pop tho, so far anyway

The only logical answers for me are Leave (Get Out) - jojo and Dip it Low - Christina Milian
The summer ballad will of course be, I Believe.

Leave and Dip It Low were obvious choices to me but I wanted to choose something different but I think either of these two songs will be the summer song of 2004 but I love both so I dont care

That might be true of "Dip it Low", but not of "Leave (Get Out)" JoJo is the greatest gainer on pop radio radio right now. Rhythmic kinda latched on to it, but I believe it will have a second life on that format has JoJo gains notoriety.

I think "Dip It Low" will definitely be one. I sing it all the time and I have other people singing it, too.
Thanks, Ben

I can't believe no one has mentioned Turn Me On! This one is going to be a huge hit...Top 10 easily, has that summer sound and it's about to blow up big time. Dip It Low will also be a big summer hit, and I think Heaven might be this year's The Remedy.

I dont think "dip it low" is any more pop then anythnig Beyonce has done. I think it could do well IF Christina does promotion at Urban places like the BET awards, 106 and park and other places aimed at a Urban audience. Also she needs to do some appearences at urban radio stations and do some on air interviews to get urban INTERESTED in her. I think thats the main problem for her, she hasnt done anything to get Urban interested in her. Maybe once it gets closer to her album release, she will do more Urban geared things and if that happens the song could take on a second wind. But she has been so busy promoting over seas she has not done anything in the U.S other then a TRL premiere that I dont even think she was at....but that was geared towards the pop audience.

my pick's Mis-teeq's 'Scandalous. I've been starting to hear that song a lot on y100 and it's steadily climbing up the charts with a generous bullet. It might become this summer's "crazy in love".

Kevin Lyttle "Turn Me On"
I'll be pissed if this song gets shoved down my throat though this whole summer (though it seems inevitable), since I've liked it already long enough and would hate to see yet another song I like get destroyed by the burn-out factor.
I also think "Confessions Pt. 2" will be all over this summer.
