I really hope they go back to the style of their self-titled. The Reason was a boring as shit album.

Based on the song going for adds on pop, don't expect it.

But isn't this the song that he wrote about Scott Weiland? I'd expect it to be a harder track then. Goddammit.

Their self titled cd was great! Their 2nd cd had a few good songs but The Reason is the worst piece of shit ive ever heard. I wouldnt be surprised if this new album sucks too.

"The Reason" (song) would have made a mighty-fine 'end of the disc' track. Unfortunately, it became enormously popular and is now played between 50 Cent & Jessica Simpson songs on pop stations.
I agree that their self-titled was great, but every alternative rock band needs to do a ballad. "The Reason" & "Disappear" were just a little too generic. They needed to release another "Running Away" and unfortunately their future on alternative looks pretty grim from here on out.
However, I'll predict a top 15 showing for this without listening to it. If it's harder, then it'll scrape top 10 at least.

Well.......there's still hope for this being a hard song in the fact that both 10 Years' Wasteland and Yellowcard's Lights And Sounds are going to pop, and neither of those are especially light. But that doesn't really mean anything.

haha wow I must be the only one that prefers the reason over their self-titled album. I havent heard anything about the new album. any one have any ideas when its gonna come out? I thought this was just a single for one of those super hero soundtracks that come out this time of year (daredevil - 2003, punisher - 2004, fantastic four - 2005). since they've made appearances on one of those soundtracks before. just thinking that because of the lack of news on their official website about a new album. but I'm probably wrong.

Well the new album was originally supposed to come out November, but of course it wasn't ready in time to be properly promoted. I assume that details on the album are coming soon. And a soundtrack is probably out of the question since there aren't any big soundtracks that I can think of that are coming soon. And Wind-Up certainly doesn't have one on their plate and they did all the soundtracks you just mentioned.

new album name is Every Man for Himself and its due out April 18th. you can listen to the song on hoobastank.com
and I gotta say its a letdown for me. not what I was hoping. reminds me of Disappear from The Reason album but even slower... blahness

Disappointing. If they were serious about maintain their rock credibility, they wouldn't release something like this as a first single. Remind your fans that you can rock hard as well. Of course, I didn't listen to their last album (beyond the singles), but they should have never released "Reason" & "Disappear"...maybe a mid-tempo in their place, and "Same Direction" should have been the kick-off single.
Anything can happen. I even thought Blink could have been gone after Take off Your Pants & Jacket (stupid-ly, looking back on it), and they proved me hella wrong.

I have to agree that this sounds very similar to Disappear, but even slower. Definitely a horrible choice of an opening single by Hoobastank. I hope the new album at least has some of their previous kickass rocking sound, or else this could be the last time we see them on any Rock format.

I didn't bother registrating so I only heard the 30 second clip and it doesn't sound impressive for a first single. No surprise that it's midtempo just like "The Reason." I won't fully judge it until I've heard the entire song but this is looking like it will be a watered down version of "The Reason."

I didn't know you could get more boring than The Reason. At least The Reason had a decent chorus.

I don't think this shouold have been the first single. Second single, sure, but first single seems very risky. But I don't think this is a bad song. It's Incubusy.

To those who only listened to the 30 second clip, the second half of the song is definitely harder, though overall I'd say it's only slightly heavier than "The Reason". That being said, I like the song a lot, but I wish they'd wait until the 2nd or even the 3rd single to release this. Hoobastank is one of my favorite bands and I really don't want them to end up getting banished to the pop format.

At the same time, though, "Out of Control" was a relative flop at radio while "The Reason" even hit the top 5 at Active Rock (as well as #1 on Alternative). Not to say that this will follow suit though - I haven't even listened to the clip.

I signed up and listened to the whole thing. I wasnt impressed because it just sounds like they wanna take the success they had with The Reason song and suck it dry. Im not sure if this is even single material. going back on their last album, songs like Just One, What Happened to Us? and From The Heart would have made amazing singles. Im sad they didnt take heavier songs like that and run with em

Ugh...I'd be shocked if this did any better than Disappear at Pop.

Very disappointing, it is just plain blah. Even "The Reason" had more energy that this.

After hearing the whole song, it's actually not *that* bad. It's like a mix of "The Reason" and "Disappear" but I'd say this is more along the lines of "Disappear." I don't know what it is about their songs but they always start off so slow and then start to pick up at about the halfway mark.

It's just there for me.
As far as where I think this is going...well, nowhere here...but this may be anywhere between Right Here and Photograph on pop.

This is even worse than The Reason but judging by the initial airplay this is getting it seems like it will become another hit for them.

It is a bit long though, and I don't like the bells at the beginning, it sounds like you've just walked into a daycare center where the little kids are playing those minature xylophones.

I actually believe this can become a top 5 hit if they milk it enough that Nickelback milked "Photograph". Of course, the difference is Nickelback release a hard song like "Animals" to keep the rock folks interested in them. The beginning to this sounds exactly like a Better Than Ezra song (from their 2001 album, can't remember the title). Still, really disappointing to hear them go in this direction after two somewhat promising singles on their last album.

Something tells me that this is going to be a grower. After a few more listens, I've warmed a little to it.
