Before I post this let me first thank all responsible for creating this board (including Matt4319). I miss the message boards on R/R, but oh well, their loss. Anyway, back to the topic at hand: it looks like that long-beleagured WQYK-AM may have finally made some strides in trying to put a dent in the ratings dominance of WDAE-AM. According to both the St Pete Times and the Tampa Tribune, WQYK has agreed to a deal with ESPN radio that will start around December. No details as to whether what if any of WQYK's current local programming blocks (which is morosely weak) will air when the switch is made. To editori- alize, if I may--WDAE PD Brad James stated in the Times that he doesn't feel like losing ESPN radio is a big loss. I disagree to an extent. Since I work nights, I usually listen to sports talk radio from a national perspective (besides, local sports talk is pretty much unlistenable 'round here). With that said, I feel from top to bottom, ESPN is MUCH better than Fox, especially when it comes to expert analysis. Problem for the sake of the imminent switch, 1010 doesn't come in on my headsets at work. Needless to say, the landscape of Tampa Bay area sports-talk radio will be quite interesting in the upcoming months.
