This is the first U.S. single from Black Holes And Revelations apparently, and it goes for adds on June 13th, while the album will hit on July 11th.
It's the last track on the new album, strangely enough. Eighteen Visions did the same thing. I wonder if this is going to become a habit?

Even though I haven't heard this, I still can't help but feel disappointed that they're not releasing "Supermassive Black Hole" as the first single here. That song sounds like such a smash to me, and totally unexpected for them. But I'll see how this turns out.

So...they made a video for Supermassive Black Hole, but aren't making it an official single? Now I wonder if its just their first single in the UK or will they release it as a second or third one here.

Having heard both, I prefer Supermassive. This is just ok.

This is fantastic. Much better than Supermassive and I really like that.

I like this, but it's so un-mainstream that I can't help but to think it'll brick wall around #20 or so. Find me another hit record that has an intro longer than this one (at 2 minutes 6 seconds). I can only believe that "Supermassive" would have done better and easily given them their third top 10 in the States.

This song is so over the top it's hilarious. In a good way!
Who was the one that said my Queen comparison was ludicrous?

I bet "Right Now" by Van Halen's longer too, but the point is, the intros that are that long are extremely rare because they just don't work too well on the radio. I heard this on the radio last week and wondered if the lyrics were ever gonna kick in, all while thinking "and 'SBH' was scrapped for being too non-mainstream?".

Man, this sounds like a carbon copy of a generic 1970's progressive rock song. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but that's not really my favorite genre-time period. They just don't do anything that makes me interested in the fact that it's a Muse song. Plus, the "wall of sound" they had in the Absolution singles that I heard feels too contorted for me to like it as equally.
From what I remember, "Supermassive Black Hole" didn't impress me as much either, but I agree it probably would've done better. I think it has a shot at the top 10 due to the cred they earned from the last album, but if it goes recurrent, I doubt it'll be in the top 30 by that point. And then they'd better have a single able to become their biggest hit because I don't know if their relevance in America would last much longer otherwise.

This song is so over the top it's hilarious. In a good way! Who was the one that said my Queen comparison was ludicrous? That might be me, although I'm not sure I used that word. I know I'm eating a bullet here, but I still don't feel it, it being the relation between Muse and Queen. I mean, maybe I'm being too general, but it just doesn't gel as easily for me as it does for you, I guess. I don't get the over-the-top feeling from this song that you are either. Maybe I just haven't listened to enough Queen. Or enough Muse. I don't know. I'm relistening to Queen songs to try to make the connection and the neurons just aren't firing. All I've listened to as far as Muse goes is Absolution and this album. I still haven't heard Origin Of Symmetry. When I do, I'll let you know if my perception changes. Don't get me wrong, I like the song, but I like it for different reasons and I don't see where Queen comes into the picture here. I don't think the vocals sound like Queen's, I don't think it's the same kind of feel, and I'm having trouble not taking it seriously if I'm supposed to think otherwise.

The ending guitars feel very Queen-ish. Sort of like Tie Your Mother Down.

Origin Of Symmetry is Muse at their prog-rock finest. You can hear Queen all over that album, specifically in tracks like 'Space Dementia' and 'Megalomania'. The closest they came on the last album was probably 'Butterflies & Hurricanes', but I noted that they seemed to be moving away from that type of sound. With this new single though it sounds like they pulled a complete 180 and ended up back in 1976. No complaints from me!

I heard this on the radio last week and wondered if the lyrics were ever gonna kick in, all while thinking "and 'SBH' was scrapped for being too non-mainstream?". I'm wondering if maybe the opposite is the case - that they released a radio-unfriendly song in the US on purpose.

I'm saddened that I haven't been overly affected by any of Muse's new songs...I really enjoy their music, but this hasn't done much to me.

I believe you have to really like Muse and know Origin Of Symmetry by heart to like this. I hear a lot of New Born and Bliss in Knights Of Cydonia.
With that said, I love this song I think as far as the singles to Black Holes and Revelations go. I think its going to be like With Teeth from NIN where none of the songs really sound like singles until you hear it on radio a bunch.
Granted, Supermassive Black Hole needs to be the next single here. I think they just picked Knights Of Cydonia cause its easier to rock out too.
I'll be bold and say this will be Muse's first top 5. That's playing it safe as I recall that I thought Hysteria was a sure fire #1 and we know that it didn't quite make it.

This is a rather unusual song compared to anything else I've heard by Muse, but the guitar on here sticks out awesomely like a tall man in a crowd which makes it freaking catchy. If anything I can think of, if the song didn't have lyrics, I think it would sound similar to Queens Of The Stone Age material.

I just realised something about Muse.
I'm listening to Supermassive Black Hole right now, and it struck me that Matt Bellamy doesn't sound like Thom Yorke so much any more.
Atleast in Supermassive Black Hole, he sounds like Beck.
Is it just me?
Edit: NME has the entire album streaming for free on their website and not even halfway through, I'd say this is the album of the year.

I've only heard most of this track once so far, but for as much of a relatively intellectual song this is, and them being British and all, I'm pleasantly surprised to see this flying up the chart. Even more impressed that I heard it on KPNT, like, the weekend before it was supposed to go for adds, I believe.

Wow; I agree that this would compete with RHCP, Tool, & Pearl Jam for album of the year. Muse have not disappointed me since their real breakthrough in '04.
As for comparisons between them and Radiohead, I think there are some similarities in vocal style, but Muse are far heavier. It's difficult not to hear their obvious influence, but Muse are far more talented and Radiohead, of course, are the epitomy of overrated.
Don't expect this to break the top 10, but it should lead them nicely into their second single, which I will be eagerly awaiting, and I know most of the panel will, too.

The next single atleast in the U.K. from Black Holes and Revelations is going to be Starlight which from what I remember of it seemed like a much more epic version of Bliss. I remember it being pretty damn awesome, so we'll have to see if it can do anything here.
Supermassive Black Hole needs to be an official single here though. Hopefully the second single.
And Radiohead overrated. Yeah, didn't see that one coming.

That was one of the most awesome videos I think I've ever seen.
At first I thought that was Matt Bellamy sporting the cheesy cowboy moustache, but it wasn't.

Heard this once and sounded like Queen to me. ??? thank goodness I'm not the only one who thought that. I was listening to it the other nite and the flow of the song reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody. especially with the mellow part than the "hard rock" part
