It's a decent song, at least. I remember really liking the last album when I heard it. The debut's the one I own; that one's pretty good, bordering on great. I wish this song were better so I'd be more excited for Tuesday. For some reason, that reminds me of a Fall Out Boy song title, or something they'd have as one.

^ Heh. I don't see where Sevendust comes into play here. Um, the fact that their peers and opening bands blew up bigger than they ever got: Kid Rock, Godsmack, Staind, P.O.D., Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Disturbed, etc.

Now that I have the album, I'm have kind of mixed thoughts about it. I'm going to try to describe this the best I can under four hours of sleep over the past two nights haha. I like how they went with this whole kind of spooky/theater direction that does remind me somewhat of MCR. It's a good mix of screamo material like Pretty Handsome Awkward, Wake The Dead, and Liar Liar as well as melodic stuff like With Me Tonight and Smother Me. However, nothing really grabbed me that easily, and this may just be an album that may take a few listens to get into.

Um, the fact that their peers and opening bands blew up bigger than they ever got: Kid Rock, Godsmack, Staind, P.O.D., Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Disturbed, etc. I don't know why you put 3 Doors Down and Nickelback in there, they have nothing to do with Sevendust altogether. But I see what you mean now. Even though Sevendust is a widely-known and respected band of that genre, they've never gone platinum unlike the bands you just mentioned. They've always maintained a steady gold pattern up until Seasons and since then they've been on a bit of a decline as they've been label-hopping. What confused me was that I talked about The Used as being a band that was playing follow-the-leader, which to my mind Sevendust does not do. Sevendust has their own sound and formula that they've been pushing since their first album, but this new Used album sounds like they're trying to take lessons from MCR and Panic. That was the other half of my point.

I don't know why you put 3 Doors Down and Nickelback in there, they have nothing to do with Sevendust altogether. They both opened for Sevendust touring in 2000. That's the only reason I threw them in there too. Looking back, I totally see how my comment was out of context. Having heard the new Used album once so far, I don't really see how they're biting MCR's and Panic's styles and having read your comments, I was actually listening for it. They were already dabbling in these kinds of sonics and rhythms on In Life and Death. This is just a continuation. Listen again to the rhythms in "Take It Away," and its industrial-ish build-up before the last choruses. The feel of "Let It Bleed" is not unlike Panic. "All That I've Got" has orchestral instrumentation all over it, as does "Hard to Say." There's a bouncy piano line in "Cut Up Angels." There's glockenspiel in "Yesterday's Feelings" and what sounds like vibraphone and orchestral arrangements in "Light with a Sharpened Edge." There's epic production effects all over "Sound Effects and Overdramatics" and a Panic-like abundance of words. "Lunacy Fringe" has a feel to it that both Panic and MCR have employed, not to mention more orchestral enhancement. And the production on the bridge in "I'm a Fake" is simply epic. Hell, even "On My Own" had tons of strings... So forgive me if I fail to see how this new album is suddenly biting at the heels of My Chemical Romance and Panic! at the Disco.

I didn't say it was sudden. I kind of felt they were kind of doing that on the last album too, as you pointed out, but it seemed a lot more obvious to me this time around.

I have never been into this band whatsoever, but knew of them. I like this song though, it sounds to me like they are going in a more commerical direction, like MCR??!!

^ The U's? Working Class H'o? Uttbroom? Huh??? :-\ I had to make them all line up somehow. Back on the R&R board, a certain member called The Used "The U's" because he thought that's what they were saying. "Working Class Hero" was a character too long, so I made a contraction out of "Hero". The artist/title for "Breath" was too short, so I added an "s" to Breaking Benjamin (you missed that one) and made the first line of its chorus into an acronym (I know the first letter should be Y, but play along here). And I put quotes around the G in "Capital G" because that line was too short. Missed that one too! Anyway, the point is The Used are back up to #11, but still probably won't make the top 10.

Even if this somehow manages to fall out of the top 10 before tomorrow night (and that better not happen), this will be the first time they've even had a mid-week top 10, right?
