This is officially the single off their upcoming GH album, Absolute Garbage, which is out July 16th in the UK (and the 17th here, I assume). What's more, all this news has broken within the past hour or so. The video is apparently already playing on Virgin Media TV services in the UK! Here are some screenshots ( more here): If you are confused, so am I. All this is happening really quickly & an mp3 has yet to leak, although I imagine something will surface really soon. Shirley Manson, the Scottish chanteuse on leave from her American band Garbage, is in the midst of recording her debut solo album with a release tentatively set for late fall. Among the contributors to the album: Garbage's Butch Vig, Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, Beck, Bird and the Bee's Greg Kurstin, White Stripes' Jack White and, in a somewhat odd pairing, fellow Scot Paul Buchanan of moody cult band The Blue Nile.
Meanwhile, the forthcoming career-spanning collection "Absolute Garbage" will finally arrive July 17 and will contain one recently-recorded new song "Tell Me Where It Hurts." A Sophie Muller-directed video of the single is coming soon. A limited edition version of the retrospective will also include a second disc of remixes. Source: www.direct-current.net/#newsStory1800

How is the video out yet no audio, weird.
REALLY EXCITED, In retrospect I really didn't love Bleed Like Me however. I did at release but quickly got over it and don't really listen to it at all except for WDYLM.

^me too. And IAOBTC <3 I somehow turned all the teenagers in my town onto that song through a mix CD I distributed, LOL. It's true, generally, that I'm kind of post-Garbage now. But events like this have me wriggling with anticipation all over again, like a 13 year old Shirleybee. <3 Sometimes I forget how much I miss them. My first real band. :'( I'm so excited for this! Please tour!

What is my day going to look like What will tomorrow bring me If I had x-ray eyes, I could see inside I wouldn’t have to protect the future I wish that you would do with some talking (I’m not sure about that line at all lol) Or else am I to know what you’re thinking If only people would say what it really was What it really was What it really was that they wanted
Chorus: Tell me where it hurts to hell with everybody else All I care about is you and that's the truth They don't love me, I can tell But you do, so they can go to hell
Did they ever give you a reason To believe in something different If you’re looking for love, for what’s worth I have plenty of it lying around here somewhere If you are looking for disappointment You can find it around any corner In the middle of the night I hold on to you tight So both of us can feel protected
Chorus: Tell me where it hurts, to hell with everybody else. All I care about is you and that's the truth they don't love me, yeah I can tell but you do, so they can go to hell
I’ve been loved but I didn’t know how to feel it And I’ve been adored but I don’t know if I ever believed it I’ve been loved my whole life but I didn’t know how to take it Until…..
Chorus: So tell me where it hurts to hell with everybody else All I care about is you and that's the truth they don't love me, yeah I can tell But you do, so they can go to hell
But you do, so they can go to hell
Tell me where it hurts x 2
Tell me where it hurts now
Tell me where it hurts (x 3 fade out)

^ That was already posted several replies up and... Anyhow, I guess I'll get suckered into buying this for the remix disc, if not the one brand new song.

It's so fucking happy & 90's Britpop. I kind of love it. And I kind of wonder how US radio will react to such an orchestral song. Oh well. The video is pretty fab.

If this was 1996 or 1998, the video would instantly hit #1 on MTV/VH1. :) Sadly, we are in an era where the video is only relevant in the digital world.

Vh1 will probably spin it, though. And maybe Fuse. They were pretty friendly to Garbage in the previous era; of course, that was on the eve of their emo transformation. I can see it doing well on AAA here, but maybe not Alternative, as it is hardly a rock tune, and that's still (sadly) a near prequisite for play on the format. There are exceptions, but this probably won't be one of them. It may be able to chart as high as "Bleed Like Me", though (#26).

Apparently the video is inspired by Belle De Jour, a 1967 French film that starred Catherine Deneuve.

Oh this is excellent. And yeah, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the video. It had to be inspired by an old movie.

I just saw "Repulsion" a few weeks ago. Mrs. Deneuve is one classy looking lady, I can totally see it. Shirley is an absolute sex bomb here. The overall sound reminds me a lot of Saint Etienne's "Good Humor". It's just, lovely.
