Good choice. I would've preferred the title track though.

This is one of the better songs on the album, so I like the choice too. Hope it does pretty well for them, at least better than "Bones".

Incredible song. Every single chosen is far better than "When You Were Young"!

I wanted "Bling." Then "Uncle Jonny." Then "Sam's Town." Then this.

I'm glad that, despite "Sam's Town" being a weak sophomore album overall in my opinion, the band has released all the decent tracks as singles (with the exception of "When You Were Young")
"Bones", "Read My Mind" and "For Reasons Unknown" are, in my opinion, the only three strong songs from the album, and though none of them have been smash hits ("Read My Mind" has charted decently, but still far from the success of the first two singles of their debut record) thus far, I'm glad they are exercising the quality tracks commerically.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Was there ever mention previously about Sam's Town going 5 singles deep?
If they do (which I hope), I would go with either "Bling" or "Sam's Town". I really wouldn't mind either or.

"Hot Fuss" went four singles deep. I know some stations offered "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" cult airplay, but it never became an official release. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Honestly, with "Read My Mind" not being the smash hit it was supposed to be, they'll probably just stop after this one.

This is alright, I guess. His voice is still annoying, but it's not nearly as bad as "When You Were Young". I don't really care if it charts or not.

I am so upset about the lack of enthusiasm for this album. My friends and I love it (but we are die-hard Killers fanatics anyway). They put on good shows, Brandon is not as stiff as he used to be live and this album has a heart, even if the songs aren't as catchy as the first album. Catchy and poppy don't always equal great, obviously...

Catchy and poppy don't always equal great, obviously... I'm not bothered that there's less accessible tracks this era and they're trying to mature as a band. It is just in my opinion that this time around they got too caught up in making an "important" album that they ended up just churning out a rather incohesive, messy product this era. "When You Were Young" just sounded like Flowers was listening to a dozen Bruce Springsteen albums while also trying too hard to write an infectious sophomore album lead single. In fact, it sounds like they were going for a concept album of sorts with the "enterlude" and "exitlude" included in there, and thematically running with a lot of "Born to Run" cliches that they inflate to sound epic and orchestrated, which ultimately just makes the band sound silly and disingenuous in the end as though they're parodying all their musical influences at the same time they're trying to pay homage to them. Certainly maturity is something that should be engaged in music, but I hardly sensed much maturity this era from them and rather a great deal of grandiosity which ultimately, aside from several songs they've released as singles minus "When You Were Young", I just can't take them seriously for how cliched and pompous they sound this time around. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Just out of curiousity, are you a music critic, Sunny Scorpio? You write very intelligently and I respect your opinion, but I guess this album is just personal to me. "This River Is Wild", while certainly grandiose, is kind of my personal anthem of sorts. Some songs, while overstuffed, just sound well-produced? Can that be denied? I don't know what the Killers intentions were in making this album, as I wasn't there with them but again, I just like the sound of it.

Everybody is a critic, some just articulate their thoughts better than others, but on the other hand, some articulate their thoughts far too much.
Not directed at or about Scorpio BTW, just rather a truth that I've picked up on that I wanted to share. Don't get the wrong idea.

Decent song, although I would've preferred "Sam's Town" (or even "Bling").
As a side note, what does everybody think of "Move Away" from the Spiderman III soundtrack? It has become one of my favorite songs right now. It sounds a bit different from anything on "Sam's Town".

Move Away RAWKS! I think people will be hard-pressed to make the whole "The Killers are trying too hard to be taken seriously or be like Springsteen/U2/whatever." I am a big fan and so are all my friends and yeah, it sounds nothing like anything on Sam's Town. Then again, I don't think Who Let You Go fit on anything either...The Killers seem to make quality B-sides as well as quality songs.

I REALLY like all these songs (and the first 3 are just as good as the best tracks off Hot Fuss in my opinion): - Bones - This River Is Wild - Read My Mind - Sam's Town - When You Were Young - Bling The album sold fine.. 1.185 million is very respectable. I do wish it had done better on radio, but there is always the next album!

Jesus of Suburbia, I love your name, haha. I also love your post! I had no idea that the album even sold that much. A platinum album is not a flop...I think it's very respectable although I am sure some people on the board would scream flop since it's not 4 million or whatever Hot Fuss sold. I have faith in the Killers that they will keep putting out quality music based on their output thus far and so, I will keep buying them and seeing them in concert. Read My Mind is definitely one of my most favorite songs of the last 5 years, I'd say.

I don't know what the Killers intentions were in making this album, as I wasn't there with them but again, I just like the sound of it. I'm not a music critic by profession, and think I rather just developed this sort of critical musical perception from my father, who has far more narrow and picky tastes in music than I do (although the limited number of artists he listens to are great) Through my father, who I indeed love very much and get along with extremely well despite disagreeing with him frequently on the arts and humanities because I'm a more creative thinker and right-brained and he thinks more rationally and left-brained, we nonetheless learn things from one another often, and through him I learn how to be a bit more discriminating while he claims he's grown to be a bit more open to the aesthetic value of a given thing through me. I actually almost always refuse to listen to critics, and in fact like many artists that always get panned by them, particularly Hootie & The Blowfish, matchbox twenty and some of Nickelback's latest material (although I agree with the critics on "Rockstar", LOL! ;) ). I admit that when I hear a lot of good word about a movie, it makes me more likely I want to see it, but then again there's been many times I thought them dead wrong, like with "The English Patient"! So yeah, we all have our inner-critics, but I certainly would never consider myself one by profession. I like what I like, and when there's something I don't care for I'll share my thoughts on it, but I have an appreciation of almost every genre of music (even though I dislike most of the type of music they currently play on the "Country music" format aside from certain artists and songs, as well as on the CHR/Rhythmic format where I believe there's so many great soul and rhythm artists out there but many of the ones representing the commerical format are unappealing to me.) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

As someone who read the posts a lot before I joined, I have always appreciated what you had to say. You don't attack people but rather state your case in a respectful manner. I am curious about the artists you like in the Rhythmic format. My favorite singer ever is Mariah, even tho she is crazy but ever since I heard her voice, I fell in love. Also, what does CHR stand for? Ironically, I worked as an On-Air radio jock for 4 years for 95.5 WBRU (in Providence) but I never got involved with the technical stuff - just liked to hear myself speak, haha.

Ironically, I worked as an On-Air radio jock for 4 years for 95.5 WBRU (in Providence) but I never got involved with the technical stuff - just liked to hear myself speak, haha. I don't buy Mariah Carey's albums only because I'm not a big fan of the music necessarily, but I absolutely agree her vocals are extraordinary. Anyone who can sing five octaves is beyond talented as far as I'm concerned. And she's doing what she loves to do, so I can't see how anyone can diss her in that respect. Amy Winehouse's debut record is awesome, in my opinion, and I also have an immense admiration for Alicia Keys, Common and John Legend to name several others. You can include Gnarls Barkley if you're among those who think they can be considered CHR/Rhythmic (some debate they're too Alternative for that label) I tend to shy away from the Urban and CHR/Rhythmic forums not because I loathe the music or anything, but because I sense it would just feel awkward for me to talk music in a forum where I don't normally tune to unlike many others there. Same story with the 800-pound gorilla threads in CHR/Pop of big-name artists like Mariah Carey, Pink and Kelly Clarkson, where those threads churn out about half a dozen pages of new comments a day, and many comments just tend to get lost in the shuffle. I prefer more intimate thread dialogue, which you get more of here and on the Hot AC forum. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Haha, I definitely notice the difference. I consider myself a big P!nk fan and so I go to those forums alot as well as to check out the posts regarding the new Kelly Clarkson because I love her new album but yeah, things do get lost in the shuffle. I was blasting For Reason's Unknown this morning and I just love how Brandon's voice is on the edge of mania. Sometimes, it's slightly over the edge but that's what sells the song to me for the most part...I believe what he is saying. Scorpio, you never answered my question about CHR and what it means. Is it because you are a Scorpio and I am a Leo? Hahah, j/k. I grew up listening to a lot of Rhythmic, Hip-Hop and RnB and in high school, I was introduced to other music but would never purchase it. In college, my ears were completely opened to everything and now I find myself listening to less and less of the kind of stuff I used to listen to when I was younger. However, I will listen to pretty much anything if I consider it to be quality. You should see my IPOD. People can't figure me out based on the music I have on there and that's the way I like it ;) Plus, I love all those artists you mentioned, especially Amy, Alicia and Legend! I have seen both Alicia Keys and John Legend in concert.

Jesus of Suburbia, I love your name, haha. Thanks! Have you heard the song by Green Day? I love it. Me too.... I have a feeling they will be one of my all time faves if they keep this up. I see you like Pink too.. "Who Knew" was my favorite song from 2006 (before she had a hit with "U + Ur Hand"). What are your 5 favorite Killers songs? Mine are: 1) Bones 2) Mr Brightside 3) Somebody Told Me 4) All These Things That I've Done 5) Read My Mind (followed closely by "This River is Wild")

Jesus, I do love the Green Day song, as well as GD in general. I had the pleasure of seeing them tour for American Idiot. I can't order my favorite Killers songs but here they are:
1. A Great Big Sled (I was obsessed with this song, plus the lyrics are personal for me) 2. Mr. Brightside 3. Somebody Told Me 4. Midnight Show 5. Everything Will Be Alright 6. Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll 7. For Reasons Unknown 8. Bling 9. Read My Mind 10. Bones 11. My List 12. This River Is Wild
I know, I know...I cheated. But, if I had to make a Killers greatest hits, that would be it.
