My hometown boys are back with a new movie covers album called "From Your Screen To Your Stereo Part II" which hits stores on September 18th. I'm personally psyched as all hell about this :) Anyway, this will be the first single and will be sent to radio according to FMQB & AbsolutePunk on September 17th. Yes, it is a cover of that Sixpence None The Richer song from the late 90s and can be heard right now on their MySpace at www.myspace.com/newfoundgloryHere's the tracklisting from Wikipedia: 1. "Kiss Me" - 2:57 * from She's All That 2. "It Ain’t Me Babe" (ft. Sherri DuPree-Gilbert of Eisley) * from Walk The Line 3. "The Promise" (ft. Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional) * from Napoleon Dynamite 4. "The King of Wishful Thinking" (ft. Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy) * from Pretty Woman 5. "Stay" (ft. Lisa Loeb) * from Reality Bites 6. "Love Fool" (ft. Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday) * from William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet 7. "Iris" (ft. Will Pugh of Cartel) - 3:15 * from City Of Angels 8. "Don’t You Forget About Me" * from The Breakfast Club 9. "J'y Suis Jamais Allé" * from Amélie 10. "Crazy for You" (ft. Max Bemis of Say Anything) * from Vision Quest 11. "Head Over Heels" * from Donnie Darko 12. "Hungry Eyes" (Japanese Bonus Track) * from Dirty Dancing

I dunno, their previous movie covers album sounded pretty lame from what I remember, but I'd at least like to hear all these once. 2. "It Ain’t Me Babe" (ft. Sherri DuPree-Gilbert of Eisley) * from Walk The Line Ah yes, I forgot Chad married a girl from Eisley. Wow, the Go West song! That's an unexpected choice! The rest of these are the ones I'm particularly interested in.

"Kiss Me" is alright.
Their cover of "Iris" made me cringe though. Nobody can even be half as good as John Rzeznik on that one.

I should note that the band has basically asked their fans over the past two years what songs they wanted covered on this since the previous covers album only had seven songs.

This sounds like a disaster in the making. I hope it works out though.

I hope it's not just punkified covers. You know what I mean. Where it's just the same song but with three chords and done really fast. You know, like every single punk cover in existence.

What an odd choice to have a whole album of covers at this stage in their career, esp. since they dabbled in it once before. Will be interesting how this charts?

At what stage in their career? They're a pop-punk band. This is what pop-punk bands do.

As much as I'd like to see this do well in one way since they're one of my favorite bands, the other part of my mind doesn't want to see anything from this album even hit the Top 50 so they become known somewhat as a cover band. If they had plenty of single successes in the past, I could see it differently, but when only four of their past singles have peaked in the Top 30 ("Hit Or Miss" at #15, "My Friend's Over You" at #5, "Head On Collision" at #28, and "All Downhill From Here" at #11), I'd rather see them be successful with original material, which hasn't happened in about five years.
I'm so glad they left Geffen (who seemed to want them to change their sound to emo) and went back to their old label Drive-Thru. That song "Situations" that was released back in June is possibly the best song I've heard from them since their early days and goes right back to their original fast pop-punk sound that I grew up in my middle & high school years listening to them just as a band who'd play in front of 100 people at a local park on Friday nights.

Sticks And Stones and Catalyst went gold. I don't think there's any way anyone would think they were a cover band. Really, I think the only way a band gets known as a cover band in the manner you're thinking of is if they get most of their original success from covers, like say with Alien Ant Farm or, more accurately, Smash Mouth. New Found Glory has been around a long time. They've had success and ridden the downward wave home. And as I think I've said before, pop-punk bands are pretty much expected to do covers, aren't they? I think every single one has about a dozen on compilations at least. I think their reputation is safe.
Also, it's a shitty song anyway. I hear it every day at work. I hate it. So it's not going to do well anyway, because anyone with a right mind will turn the radio off when that song comes on the air because it is a horrible song.

I never really liked the original song, and from the list of songs on the tracklisting, I could assume there would have been many better choices for their probably only single from this covers album. I think the cover of "Iris" which can also be heard on their MySpace is ten times better. Also, I happen to love the Goo Goo Dolls, which helps. I know I've made a shitload of posts in this thread, and to be honest musically I see New Found Glory as a typical pop-punk/emo band, and no better than most of the bigger ones we've seen since the early 00s.
It's just I feel that I have a certain connection with them growing up in the same town and seeing them being the opening band in a high school parking lot show to now play as a main band in front of over 30,000 people at a festival like the Warped Tour . Hell, Ian's (the bassist) mom works at my eye doctor's office and the band gets their hair cut at the same place as I do. They're the biggest thing ever to come out of this South Florida suburb of only 150,000 people. We've also set a Guinness record for creating the world's largest hamburger in 1989, but that's off-topic :)

It's understandable.
EDIT: The sentiment, not the hamburger.
EDIT: Although I suppose from a certain point of view, that is also understandable.

Like I thought of their first batch of movie covers. As much as I'd like to see this do well in one way since they're one of my favorite bands, the other part of my mind doesn't want to see anything from this album even hit the Top 50 so they become known somewhat as a cover band. As penance already said, they've been established for so long that that would never happen at this point. They've been going strong for 6+ years now. Sure their heyday is gone, but it's not like nobody cares about them anymore. They're doing this now because they know it's not gonna damage their career in any way.

I'm so glad this band doesn't do well in Canada. Sticks and Stones was alright but it went all down here from there...

I'm so glad this band doesn't do well in Canada. Sticks and Stones was alright but it went all down here from there... That's exactly how I feel. All of my favorite stuff by them is in their earlier days pre-Sticks And Stones and then when they signed to Geffen after that album, their sound became almost strictly "emo." As I said earlier, now that they're back with Drive-Thru, I'm hoping they go back to their old sound on their new album which supposedly is coming out early next year from what I remember hearing.

You can also hear "Head Over Heels" at www.altpress.com/media . Scroll down to the exclusive streams sections in the middle of the page. I definitely don't agree with "Kiss Me" as the single even more now as these other three songs are so much damn better.

"Head Over Heels" is the only decent one I've heard of the 3 (that one plus "Kiss Me" and "Iris").

It only had one single, because it bombed and Geffen sucks.

Okay, well, according to FMQB, "On My Mind" went for adds only at Hot AC. Wikipedia doesn't even mention that. Is that the one you were thinking of?

I put that on Wikipedia, by the way.
