UK Midweeks:
1 Sugababes Hole In The Head 2 Kevin Lyttle Turn Me On 3 Black Eyed Peas Where Is The Love? 4 Emma Bunton Maybe 5 Jamelia Superstar 6 REM Bad Day 7 50 Cent P.I.M.P 8 Sophie Ellis Bextor Mixed Up World 9 Beyonce Baby Boy 10 Rachel Stevens Sweet Dreams(My L.A. Albums, Travis are #2 behind Dido.
Summary:
Sugababes no1 not very surprised at this as i predicted this, kevin lyttle is very high again i predicted this but the song is crap.
Emma Bunton going in at no4 is huge she is the only spice girl to have 2 top 5 hits this year and the only one whos record deal is in no danger.
Craig David will be dissapointed as this is his first single to miss the top 10.
Dido is still going strong in the album charts.

I'm surprised with Emma. I don't like her new material. I quite liked it when she went the "What Took You So Long?" route.

Glad to see Travis moving 12-6* in airplay. I was worried that since this song isn't up to par with their previous hits that it would falter. However, that doesn't seem to be the case which is good.
Atomicaloud, next week you should make the airplay chart its own thread. I think it's big enough news to have its own discussion... right?

I find it strange that you're suggesting it only now. Besides, looking at the replies in this topic, atomicaloud made 7 out of the 11 posts. There's no discussion here. The topic's not even past the 2nd page. No need to split it in two.

I don't need this forum to look lively, it's never going to be as lively as Music News... what would be? 3. It's been here for less than 48 hours so far

IMO the UK charts are the most interesting charts.
There is obviously not going to get much response in this forum.

In a way, I kind of agree with atomicaloud regarding the UK charts. Sales are a huge factor there, so every week, there's the question of which song will enter the chart at the top. It adds a kind of excitement which obviously isn't there in either the US R&R CHR/Pop chart or the Hot 100 (of course with the latter, it happens on rare instances, like with the AI battle some months back).
I would like to see info on the airplay chart on these boards, but atomicaloud, I was just wondering---how exactly is airplay considered when compiling the UK chart? Does the main chart consider airplay at all, or is it just sales? And is airplay an important factor in the UK like it is in the States?
On another note, I'm sort of glad BEP might finally be kicked out of the #1 spot. I'm certainly not a Sugababes fan, but 6 weeks? Enough already; this is the UK charts we're talking about, not the R&R AC!

Airplay is not counted towards the UK charts in anyway it just helps the single to get heared and gives it a lot of promotion.

Jeez, lay off. It was just a suggestion. It was half tongue-in-cheek. (I find the phrase "tongue-in-cheek" really dumb. How did it ever manage to enter popular usage? )

Saturday Chart:
01 Sugababes – Hole in the head 02 Kevin Lyttle – Turn me on 03 The Black Eyed Peas – Where is the love? 04 Emma – Maybe 05 Jamelia – Superstar 06 50 Cent ft. Snoop Dogg – P.I.M.P. 07 REM – Bad day 08 Sophie Eliis-Bextor – Mixed up world 09 Rachel Stevens – Sweet Dreams My LA Ex 10 The Darkness - I believe In A Thing Called Love
It seems Beyonce has bombed to No.11 or 12, well somewhere between there. That shows no one is buying the single as its on the album, probably most of the buying public has got the album.

Is this the Sugababes' 3rd #1? Congrats to them; it's nice to see BEP out of the top.
Nice Top 10 entry for REM. I like "Bad Day"; cool track with a nice video too.

Beyonce made one helluva drop! When was the last time a song slipped out of the Top 10 from a #2 position? Is this song getting much airplay in the UK at all?

That Kevin Lyttle song isn't bad. It reminds me of Maxi Priest.

It's the worst song to make number 2 this year by far.
Beyonce has just been overplayed with this song in the UK more than 'Crazy In Love' and the album has sold 600,000 so thats why it took a huge drop.

Beyonce has just been overplayed with this song in the UK more than 'Crazy In Love' and the album has sold 600,000 so thats why it took a huge drop. It's interesting how excessive radio airplay actually causes a song to do worse on the chart in the UK, because it decreases single sales. Airplay, as you've mentioned, is not a considered factor when compiling the charts. In the States, it's practically the opposite; an overplayed song will remain high on the charts for a long time, and this will increase the recurrent airplay for the song even more!

Record companies have recently been finding that premering a song only 2/3 weeks before release will get you a bigger selling single than songs that have been around for 6 weeks before release.

'Hole In The Head' seeems to have been deleted by the record company, bit of a stupid move.

'Hole In The Head' seeems to have been deleted by the record company, bit of a stupid move. Smart actually IMO. They've already got #1 so they get all the publicity and benefit of a #1 single then the people who want the song from now on have to buy the album. In theory it results in better album sales and in this case it probably will turn out that way (might not for a less established artist to). It's the whole US charts theory, most singles don't ever get released over there. At least the single was available to get them a #1 hit.

No the problem is it was deleted on Thrursday therefore they might not get to number 1 today.
There album is not released for another week so it's pretty pointless deleting it now.
