Do you have two or more stations with the same format in your area? In Jackson we have:
2 CHR/pop (WDBT, WYOY) 2 country (WMSI, WUSJ) 2 urban (WJMI, WRJH) 2 urban AC (WJXN, WKXI-FM) 2 sports (WJDX, WSFZ) 2 adult standards (WIIN, WLEZ--LPFM) 2 black gospel (WOAD, WZRX) 3 news/talk (WFMN, WJNT, WPBQ) 3 rock (WRXW--active, WSTZ--mainstream, WTYX--classic)
There's also an AM and FM simulcast of blues on WYJS (FM) and WKXI (AM).

Nassau-Suffolk area: Adult Contemporary: WLTW*, WNEW*, WALK-FM**, WKJY**, WHUD***, WFAS/WFAF***, WEZN****, and WEBE**** Hot Adult Contemporary: WPLJ* and WLIR/WBON*** and Rock Adult Contemporary WMJC** Classic Rock: WAXQ* and WDRE** and Classic Hits WRCN** Oldies: WCBS-FM,* WKHL********, and WBZO** Adult Standards: WHLI-AM** and WALK-AM** CHR-Pop: WBLI**, WHTZ*, WSPK/WXPK***, WKCI******, and WQGN******* CHR-Rhythmic: WKTU (dance)*, WQHT*, WXXP (dance)**, and WZMX***** Urban: WWPR* and WBLS* Tropical: WSKQ*, WCAA*, and WLIB-AM** News: WCBS-AM*, WINS-AM*, and WBBR* and Business News WLIE** Talk: WABC-AM* and WOR-AM* Not all of these stations overlap and not all appear in the ratings. * New York City station ** Nassau-Suffolk station *** Westchester station **** Bridgeport station ***** Hartford-New Britain-Middletown station ****** New Haven station ******* New London-Norwich station ******** Stamford-Norwalk station That's 11 formats and 39 stations with some type of overlap. There is more overlap in the New York City ratings with WBAB** and WDHA Morristown and Adult Contemporary WMGQ Middlesex-Somerset-Union. I also got three stations on 95.1 together all oh which have other stations in the market: Atlantic City-Cape May CHR-Pop WAYV Allentown-Bethlehem Rock WZZO Danbury Classic Rock WRKI Occasionally I've gotten the Atlantic City-Cape May Country station on 107.3 with adjacent stations on both sides. WWYZ, the Hartford-New Britain-Middletown Country station, is in the bottom of the Nassau-Suffolk ratings, but no significant number of people can get both Country stations. In addition to the News and Talk stations I mentioned, I got News/Talk from Cleveland on 1100 when WHLI-AM goes off the air at night. WKJY and WMGQ are on the same frequency, "Adult Contemporary on 98.3" would not be adequate for the New York City if they didn't know where the person was from. I wonder if Arbitron would ever not count some listeners if they were not sure what station they meant. It might be useful if Arbitron also asked the strength of the radio(s) the person uses. The Los Angeles ratings have multiple stations of CHR-Rhythmic, Urban Adult Contemporary, Hot Adult Contemporary, Classic Rock, Adult Standards, News, Talk, Sports, Regional Mexican, Tropical, Spanish Oldies, and Spanish News/Talk. That's 12 formats.

CHR/Pop: WQZQ 102.5 WRVW 107.5
Urban/Hip-Hop: WUBT 101.1 WNPL 106.7
(urban AC WQQK 92.1)
Country: WSM-FM 95.5 WSIX 97.9 WKDF 103.3
Contemp. Christian: WAYM 88.7/99.3 WFFI/WFFH 93.7/94.1 (radio and records has WFFH listed as WFFY and they're wrong-I've emailed them three times and they won't do anything about it).
Sports Talk: WNSR 560 AM WGFX 104.5 (radio and records has it listed as classic hits but they changed 2 or 3 months ago. Again, the emails haven't done any good.)
and might as well add WWTN 99.7---seems like about 70 percent of their programming is sports talk lately.
Hot AC:
WRQQ 97.1 (not 80's as mentioned in most other places; again radio and records is wrong...since March of 2003-and the emails have done no good at all.)
WCVQ 107.9 (Ft. Campbell, KY) (comes in pretty bad, but in NW Nashville, comes in like a local station).

Comments about Nashville posted above: The ratings say WSM-AM is Country also. For WAYM, I don't normally here about a simulcast having a commercial station and a noncommercial station. Thanks for telling me the stations aren't 80s and Classic Hits. I remember hearing about the station changing to Sports but I wouldn't remember that when I look at the ratings.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about 650 WSM-AM. There are also a few others on AM, as well as 95.1 from Bowling Green, KY and 94.7 in Cookeville TN - both country with very strong signals that come in pretty good in my car.....I'm sure I left out a bunch of other ones, too. Star 97 does play a lot of 80's music, but they do play almost everything on the Hot AC chart as well.

I the Denver area we only have one multi-fromat that actually get good reception. They are Hot AC, 105.9 Alice (KALC), and Mix 100.3 (KIMN). They are both very different though. Alice is more rock and more modern whereas Mix is more 80's, 90's, and Today and lighter.

As of one hour ago, WDBT is no longer CHR/pop (see my thread "SHOCKER: WDBT changes from CHR/pop to gospel").

Well, back home in the middle of nowhere we get three rhythmic stations. KSFM 102.5 - Sacramento 103.5 The Bomb - Sacramento KWIN 97.7 - Stockton According to 10000 watts I'm at least 10 miles out of the listenting range for all of them. Even funnier is that you can't get KWIN reception in Sacramento, and the two Sac-town stations are sketchy at best in Stockton, and they're seperated by 40 miles of flat farmland. Where I lived I was 60 miles from Sac and 85 from Stockton and 4000 feet up from both - all three are clear as a bell. Go figure!

CHR/Rhythmic
Wild 949 (KYLD) 106 KMEL
KMEL is the more "Urban" formatted out of the two though.

My area has 2 CHR/POP stations. (WJBQ 97.9 & 92.3 92 moose they call it I forgot the call letters).
We have 2 Rock formats (WBLM & WTOS). WTOS is geared more towards artists of today and they don't edit there songs :o . It is the only station I know that will not edit out profanity. WBLM is more focused on older rock with some new splashed in every once in a while. I don't listen to that station for that reason.
I am not sure what format some of the other stations are in my area. We only have one Rhythmic station.
