Best line in Rappers Delight. That and the Kaopectate lineย :) And 50's almost off

And 50's almost offย Brandy once said: Everybody knows almost doesn't count. (Not Worth) 50 Cent should've been off a year ago.

With recurrents allowed, will a song break the record for most weeks on American Top 40 soon? What's the record for most weeks on American Top 40? Thanks to recurrents being allowed, for the Black Eyed Peas, the third single replaces the first single while the second single isn't on the chart. J-Kwon (24), Avril Lavigne (29), 3 Doors Down (30), Switchfoot (31), and Frankee (33) are the top five songs on Mediabase not on American Top 40. Predict which of those will debut next week. Hoobastank (35), Jessica Simpson (38), Enrique Iglesias featuring Kelis (39), and D12 (40) are the other songs in the Top 40 on Mediabase but not American Top 40. "Baby One More Time" is the Number 569 gold with 6 spins compared to 69 spins for "Genie In A Bottle" and 4 spins for "I Want It That Way." Britney will certainly be the greatest percentage gainer on the gold chart thanks to this. I wonder how the radio stations felt about playing "Baby One More Time."

I wonder how the radio stations felt about playing "Baby One More Time." Probably better than they felt having to play "Because You Loved Me" every other week for the past seven years (only a slight exaggeration).

Looking at today's Mediabase chart, Fefe Dobson looks ready to lose her bullet again, but this should help. Wow, only 7 should-be recurrents on the chart this week. Is that a record? :o Yeah, that song has been a spot or two higher every week than it would have been on R&R. It's one of the few songs that actually debuted the week it was supposed to and not like a month later. Don't forget that the chart week AT40 uses is two weeks behind what you see on Mediabase. So I wouldn't be surprised if none of those debuted next week, except for maybe J-Kwon or Switchfoot.

"In Da Club" should fall off now.

I wonder if Ryan ever made mention of his knowledge (or most likely, lack thereof) of Kimberley Locke...

And 50's almost offย Ryan said that it looks like 50 Cent will be dropping off soon, but he hopes that the song will stay on for a while longer because he likes it.

When they played "Someday" by Nickelback, Ryan mentioned that they are so sick of telling how they came up with the name "Nickelback" in interviews that they now make up bogus stories of how they came up with their name.ย For example, they told one interviewer that the "Nickelback" was a World War II fighter plane that never made it off the production line. (They really got their name from when the bass player worked at Starbucks.ย A lot of times, customers would get 5 cents back as change, so as he handed the change back to the customer, he would say "Nickel back."

Ryan said that it looks like 50 Cent will be dropping off soon, but he hopes that the song will stay on for a while longer because he likes it. As I said before, this is the Ryan Seacrest Top 40, not AT40.

As I said before, this is the Ryan Seacrest Top 40, not AT40. That is extremely naive to say. It is American Top 40. Deep-down the heart of the original show still beats on. It accomplishes it's goal. I can't say that I particularly agree going with affiliates than an official published chart--however the show is still American Top 40, regardless of who is hosting it. If it were Ed McMann people would still complain because it is not Casey. Same for Shadoe Stevens. No matter how you slice it, Ryan has no real control over the show. All changes to AT40 were made by upper management, not Ryan. They hired him to be himself. What's interesting is that on the old R&R boards people were praising how good a job Ryan did at guest-hosting. How he made the show his, without deviating from what should be done. To be honest, if he did have to replace Casey, I would have preferred the show's format to stay the same. But it isn't. Ryan is the host now, and that just has to be faced. There's nothing that can be done about it. It's time to move on. What's done is done.

Deep-down the heart of the original show still beats on.ย It accomplishes it's goal.ย The only comparison is that it counts down 40 pop songs. Other than that, it bears no relation whatsoever to the original AT40 (my opinion).ย I agree with most of your other points, though.ย :)

Yeah, the ryan seacrest Top 40 show sucks. With Premiere's blessing this guy accepted to change the basic of the show.As it was said before why fix something isn't broken? ....Oh,oh,..Casey's age,I forgot. But even he's over 70,he has the charm, which ryan showed only as a guest host, but now?Oh,I keep forgetting, the new AT40 is aimed to younger demo.???? Or there have to be a new top 40 show for us?

How long should a listener wait to hear the #1 after the tease? 2 minutes (1 minute national/local break)? 4 minutes (2/2)? 6 mintues (2/4 local)?
Well, this week it was 7 minutes 45 seconds. Even with this long break, the show still finished 2 minutes under four hours. If was a Program Director, I would seriously consider dropping AT40 for a more break "friendly" shows like Hollywood Hamilton or TRL Weekend Top 30.
The longer segments are great except can you really keep a listener through nearly 8 minutes of ads.

The longer segments are great except can you really keep a listener through nearly 8 minutes of ads. I guess the thing about having only 2 breaks per hour, as opposed to the 4 we had before, is that radio stations can take certain liberties with the extended ad space. I listen to the show every week via CHUM-FM and they seem to run shorter ads. The show almost always clocks in at about 3 hours, 40 minutes. Whereas other stations might stretch the show out (i.e. pad the ads) so that it fills the entire 4 hours. Evidently, billme's station had some time to fill.

RST40 and AT20 are sent to radio stations as CDs. The tracks on the CDs are each part of the show and cut off at the commercial break and at the end of the segment are the commercials that have to be aired because they are on the CD. Usually there are anywhere from 1-3 commercials. Then the local affiliate adds their own after those.
