For a no enhancements performance of a pop star no one thought could carry a note, do you think she can sing? I am not asking if she is a great singer, or an inspiring singer - nothing on the scale of Whitney's, Alicia's, etc. Can the woman sing.
My opinion is yes. I had low expectations of her ability and was surprised that she carried it off. I was happy that she hit the bad note towards the end because it showed that there where no smoke and mirrors to help her - it was real. I do not consider her a great singer - by any stretch of the imagination, but I can honestly say that I don't believe her voice on her albums is "studio magic", but that it is her voice, just cleaned up as much as any other recording artist.

• I feel sorry for the sound waves that are being forced to carry her voice.

lol. I find it funny that some people are making it sound like the worst vocal performance ever. You are VERY VERY VERY lucky if this is one of the worst vocal performances ever that you have heard. My ears have been made to bleed far more by some others Id give it a passable. She is obviously not vocally talented, but its not like I was covering my ears and running for the door.

so I'm guessing J-Lo doesn't sing live that much? I wouldn't know, I pay very little attention to her "live" skills..

As far as I know, that was her first "live" vocal performance. I mean with no background singers, no lead vocal track, no pitch correcting microphone, no soundfiltering software, multitracking or any of the other aids most all of the performers usually have. It was a plain microphone, a track of music and her unadorned voice.

On some songs such as If YouHad My Love I think it's passable but on the whole I'd say subpar.

I'd say respectable. Although she can't sing like Mariah or Christina, she does have a decent voice. PLUS, she has a nice tone in her voice that makes her songs sound great, which I think is what Britney has going for her too.

Passable. On the same level as a Britney or Ashlee in the fact that it fits the music well. As long as she only sings overproduced dance-pop, I'm fine with it.
