This is a tough one.....I think I'm gonna go with U2. No, the Pumpkins. No, Radiohead. Argh! LOL
I'll stick with U2, just because I think they're a terribly mediocre band with too much praise. I hate some of the bands on this list, much more so than U2 (I actually like quite of a few of U2's songs), but U2 gets way too much credit.
I guess I could say the same thing for Nirvana, but I love them too much.
I know some jerk is gonna vote for the Beatles just because "everyone likes them". Oh well.

This is very tough. All are quite good, but they all get lots of accolades, probably more than they deserve.
After much thought, I've decided to vote for the White Stripes because although I think they're talented and put out interesting music, the only really outstanding song by them I can think of is "7 Nation Army", but all I ever hear or read about them is praise with nary a negative word.
But the Rolling Stones are not the "world's greatest rock band", just the longest-lasting one. They're bound to put out some great music in that time, but it's been a long time since their last great one. Their best music was during the '60's.
Sometimes I get weary of all the attention the Beatles get, but I have to admit there's no other band that comes close to what they achieved.
Nirvana was also quite overrated, though definitely good.

U2, though I do like them. Just not enough to understand all the hype.

I'll say Nirvana. I don't see how having one hit and then killing yourself deserves a box set.

I'll go with U2. One of my least favorite 80's bands period. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif)

I went with The Beatles. Not because they are bad, but because they are treated like Gods! They could have sang any song and it would have been praised. If anyone else originally sang one of their songs, it would be overlooked.

Nirvana. Even though the lead singer was an amazing songwriter, their music didn't really catch onto me, although i love "smells like teen spirit".

U2. I'm so sick of seeing their videos all over MTV and VH1, during the 15 minutes that they do give videos. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

The White Stripes suck, but they really aren't that popular a band. No multi-platinum albums, no sell out arena tours, etc. Outside of the music critics crowd, they don't get much repect.
Same goes with Radiohead.
Which is why my vote goes to Nirvana. They wrote one catchy tune and are considered the voice of a generation. Their other stuff isn't good. And I personally feel they killed rock n' roll by taking the fun out of it. I'll take Bon Jovi, Def Leppard or Poison over this band any day. (In fact if not for the 20,000 hair bands that all sounded a like, Nirvana wouldn't have hit big. America just wanted a change in direction, and Nirvana just happened to break at the right time)

I'm actually still trying to decide. I think I'll go with Nirvana, although I do like them, and they have FOUR pop hits, three of those whenever Cobain was alive. Demand for Nirvana material was what made it worthy of a box set.
I do not think that the Pumpkins are overrated, AT ALL. In fact, they are probably the least overrated of the list. It's a shame (pun intended) that after MCIS, people wanted them to duplicate that album, although I don't believe it could ever be done.
The Rolling Stones.. they could retire, since they haven't released much quality stuff in awhile.
To call The Beatles overrated is natural. I love them too much to vote them, though.
U2 are the other band I was thinking of voting. Although I like them a lot, too.
The White Stripes are overrated, but then again, I loved all of their albums and I was a fan before the whole Elephant thing, including 7NA. However, I was getting into them at the same time that sales for WBC were growing.
Radiohead don't really seem that overrated to me. I love listening to their OK Computer and Kid A albums before I go to sleep, although I understand how someone could think that they are.

Same goes with Radiohead. I think some people consider those artists overrated for that reason. HOWEVER, The White Stripes do have a multi-platinum album with Elephant, as well as the fact that the album got them an even bigger fan base than just the critics, as "Seven Nation Army" was found on the year-end charts for Alternative, Rock, Active Rock, and Triple A, all of the rock formats. Not to mention, Radiohead have a #1 album (and not to mention, a super loyal fan base) and the Stripes have a top-10 album in the US alone. Those bands are even more popular in the UK.

None of the bands here are anywhere near as overrated as Nirvana. Not because the songs weren't good enough (they were very good), but because blows everything Nirvana way out of proportion, as if rock music as a whole hasn't recovered since 1994. And that's total dogs**t, and as a result, a new radio listener could tune in and hear any of Nirvana's biggest hits and have no idea that the songs are over a decade old because that's how often they're still being spun. Plus, modern rock radio acts as if Nirvana was the one and only seed of alternative radio, which isn't true, and looking at the big picture, they didn't possess a sound that was even remotely unique.
You just can't make the same argument for any of the other bands listed in this poll. It's a no-brainer, and not surprisingly, it's winning. Although, unfortunately, I'd bet that many of their votes came from people who just don't like, or understand their music at all.

Same as in they get no respect, or same as in they suck? Same as their love comes from the music intelligensia and not from fans. Radiohead has had a couple of good songs, (I really like "Karma police"), but music critics think these guys can split the atom.

Other-Guns N'Roses. I have listened to other 80s Rock from this time and their music sounds like everything else that was released at the time. The Band has only released three albums and the band's prime was only six years from 1987-1993. There have been rock bands that have lasted longer that don't get the respect at all.

Which is why my vote goes to Nirvana. They wrote one catchy tune and are considered the voice of a generation. Their other stuff isn't good. No way! Nirvana had many great songs, and I actually think "Teen Spirit" is one of their weaker ones. I do think they're somewhat overrated, but I also think they've gotten way too much flack from music snobs as of late. So what if Kurt isn't the best guitar player? His brilliant songwriting makes up for it.

Same as their love comes from the music intelligensia and not from fans. Radiohead has had a couple of good songs, (I really like "Karma police"), but music critics think these guys can split the atom. Support from the masses stems from airplay. If a song is played a lot, chances are enough people will like it to make the album a big seller. Radio in this country has never opened up to Radiohead, which is probably the main reason they don't have a massive fanbase like other pop acts. In the UK, critical and music buyer support for Radiohead is basically equal. The latest Channel 4 viewers' "100 Best Albums" poll put OK Computer at #1. There must be a reason for it.
