The top 8 biggest summer records from 2000 to 2006 all have one thing in common, they are good records. Some are much better than others of course and have firmly placed itself in the league of pop music instant classics. Here's my ranking:
1. Beyonce Crazy in Love ft. Jay Z. Even though "Baby Boy" and "Irreplaceable" became bigger hits in the US, and "Beautiful Liar" surpassed its success world wide, this is still the defining record quality wise in Beyonce's career, both as a solo artist and DC lead singer. One of the top 5 best records of the decade thus far, bar none.
2. Nelly Hot in Herre Wish more rap songs could be nearly as brilliant as this one.
3. Mariah Carey We belong together The third best MC song for me, after "Vision of Love" and "Fantasy." Suddenly, she mattered again, thanks to this record. Magnificent.
4. Gwen Stefani Hollaback Girl This song is full of killer hooks. One of the decades coolest records.
5. Lifehouse Hanging by a moment This song is an excellent introduction to a great band. A great melody and terrific rift makes this easy to enjoy.
6. Nelly Furtado Promiscuous Girl Fantastic club banger.
7. Aaliyah - Try Again Before there was "My Love" and "Promiscuous Girl," Timbo tried his futuristic beats on an Aaliyah track and the result was a truly great record.
8. Usher - Confessions, Pt. II This was one of the better tracks of his massive "Confessions" album. Not in the same league with the aforementioned tracks in terms of quality, but still quite good.
What do you think?

1. Promiscuous 2. Crazy In Love 3. Hot In Herre
IMO, those are the only songs with a summer feel to them. But, rating the others based on quality, it would go...
4. Hanging By A Moment 5. We Belong Together 6. Try Again 7. Confessions 8. Hollaback Girl

A lot of good songs on the list, but I had to go with "We Belong Together." While I'd listen to most of these songs on the radio now, quite a few of these I began to switch off due to overplay, but "WBT" is one that even at the time I wouldn't change.
"Confessions" is the only one on the list that I've never really liked.

How come no one pointed out the 20006 in the title? LMAO! We have a long way to go until that year comes! Anyway, I went with Crazy In Love.

I voted for "Promiscuous," which I can still listen to today and love.
Here's how I'd rank the songs.

How are 'Hollaback Girl' and 'We Belong Together' both on this list when they are both from the same year?
Hollaback Girl was not a summer song fyi. It was released in March 05 and quickly peaked in May and plummeted down the charts by the time summer rolled around. NOT A SUMMER SONG.
