www.raven-symone.org/index.phpGo there to listen! The video is soon to debut on BET's Access Granted. I don't expect it to get much Urban airplay though, so I posted the topic here.

This song is really nice. I love it! It is really catchy. I think it's a little too 'youth' sounding for CHR/Pop though. But that didn't stop Hillary Duff or JoJo. She'll fit right in.
I'm really looking forward to Raven's album. I'm so glad that she is releasing an album. I'm proud of her.
P.S. I think it is pretty cute that Raven and Lindsay Lohan are roomates. :)

I LOVE Raven.....but dont think I love this song. it sounds so out dated. it sounds like one of the out dated Mis-Teeq songs. The production sounds like it from the that whole futuristic era of music from 1998-2000. That was around the time She'kspere and Rodney Jerkins were popular. I cant believe they did Raven like this. They did not put her with any of the top producers to get her some hits. I dont even think this will fly with the Disney crowd. The Cheetah Girls songs were better then this, and even they sound outdated. If they wanted her to be Urban, I dont understand why they didnt put her with The Neptunes or Timbaland(hit makers). And if they wanted her to pop why didnt they put her with the Matrix, or Bloodshy and Avant. its a shame she is going to be the 1st Disney girl to flop. They put HIllary with the top pop producers of the moment, its a shame they shafted Raven. Hella Racist! The song isnt THAT BAD, its an "ok" song but it wont do aything and it just sounds like cheap outdated production and they shouldnt have done her that way. Especially since she actually has a decent voice, unlike the other pop girls of the moment(including her roomate and her label mate.) Oh yeah, and she needs better song writers. The lyrics are just CHEESY! But on a positive note she sounds great.

What do you expect a Disney music artist to have some thought provoking lyric? I don't even think Hillary Duff's songs are lyrics from a genious.
I honestly don't care about some lyrical expertism from an artist. As long as the words are positive and can put a smile on my face is all I really need and care about. I listen to music to be entertained. If I need to be educated then I will go to school for that.
I think her fan base is children which wouldn't really care less about deciphering a lyric. I really dig the song, it is cookie cutter and sweet. It makes me feel really good when I hear it. I think Raven has done a fine job with her lead single catering to the audience which she is safest with: children. On another note, I'm comfortable with Raven being truly who she is rather than being made up and 'rushing' to be mature like some other teen artist(s).

I LOVE Raven.....but dont think I love this song. it sounds so out dated. it sounds like one of the out dated Mis-Teeq songs. It is extremely rare for artists of color to have straight up poppy sounding songs. I don't think it has anything to do with it sounding outdated. Current female artists of color like Mis-teeq, Raven, Kimberley Locke, and Fefe Dobson fit the true pop mold nicely, IMO.

Mis-teeqs songs that they released in the U.S are 2 or 3 years old. they sound out dated just like Ravens.

I love this song! Well, I love Raven! I think she is so talented and gorgeous! Except, I HATE her album cover. Her show "That's So Raven" is hilarious! The song does sound outdated, but its really catchy! The bridge is the hottest part of the song.
This song has a cool urban vibe to it and I see pop and rhythm and urban radio will give her a chance since, plus she's a Disney artist, so they will give her a little boost! These are my predictions:
Pop: #8 Rhythmic: #19 Urban: #26
However, her album is going to be HUGE! Kids love Raven, and I'm sure parents will be buying her new album this fall and holiday season!

Her album will be a huge seller regardless of her pop radio success. I'm not sure if her first pop release will be a hit, the same way Hilary "Lizzie" Duff didn't have a hit with "I Can't Wait." Then again, Disney didn't promote it as the lead-off for her album. Good luck, Raven.
Did Raven have any success at all with her rap album in the early 90's (I think it was a rap album)?

According to this website: www.gramble.com/music/90speak.htmlRaven-Symone peaked at #68 on the Billboard Singles Chart with her rap track "That's What Little Girls Are Made Of." That single was from her 1993 debut album, "Here's To New Dreams." I'm not sure where the album peaked. Raven had a sophomore album in 1999 called "Undeniable." Five years later, comes Raven's third solo album slated for release next month called "This Is My Time.". So Raven may seem so new to the scene but she has been around. :)

Top 68 Billboard smash?! Raven has been doin' it way big. Her old fanbase alone could make her album sell by the bucketload! Thanks for that information.

LMAO. i didnt know thats considered a success ??? That's definitely a success considering she hit the chart when she was only 7 years old back then. LOL. I still remember the song getting some airplay on my local Urban station. I was 14 around that time. BET's "Video Soul," hosted by Donnie Simpson and Sherri Carter used to play the video a lot.

Do we really need another Disney actress on the charts? It's not like one isn't way more than enough. Though Raven's voice is noticeably better than Hilary Duff's.

The album's first single, "Backflip," was written and produced by both Scott Storch (who has worked on hits for Beyonce, Ja Rule and Jadakiss, among others) and Kara DioGuardi (who penned Hilary Duff's hit "Come Clean")

This single might sound outdated to some folks I just recently downloaded a high quality version of "Backflip" on the pop generation website and it doesn't sound outdated at all. I think she is going to at least get some good Urban airplay now that I can hear it clearer. I think she has a shot of going top 20 on that format. www.popgeneration.com/?team=a+cinderella+story

LMAO. Have u heard Urban radio lately? "dip it low" is going to peak somewhere a little under the top 15. Probably around 17 or 18 and that song is alot more urban than Ravens and just an all around better song. So there is no way Raven will get top 20 on Urban. I dont think she will even Chart on Urban but she could possible get top 40 at pop because of who she is, a little hype from the kids, and disney is backing her.

I think she has what it takes to be embraced by the Urban format. I remember in 1998 how surprised I was when Tatyana Ali's song, "Daydreamin'" went top 10 at Urban. The song didn't sound very Urban friendly to me at all. But yet it made the top 10. You never really know. I think Raven can work well on some Urban stations. Rumor has it that BET's "Access Granted" is premiering her video for "Backflip." I have to wait and see if this is all true or not.

Access Granted was tonight at 7:30.
And Tatiana Ali also had a remix with Peter Guns and Lord Tirque who were HUGE at the time which is why it did well at Uraban.

I'm not talking about this week's Access Granted, maybe sometime in the future. But then again, I'm not sure if that rumor is true or not. Raven can have a remix to her song as well and get Urban airplay too. I'm sure Lil' Romeo, Bow Wow, or some other young rapper can show some love on "Backflip'."
