Not sure why we have to keep going over this, but tracks from albums that won an Album category are no longer eligible. That means tracks from Continuum, B'Day, The Breakthrough, Release Therapy, etc. are not eligible this year.
The two exceptions to this are: 1. Tracks are eligible for Record of the Year and Short-Form Video if they were released in during the eligibility year, but only those two categories (recent examples being "Clocks" the year after Coldplay won Alternative Album and "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" the year after Green Day won Rock Album). 2. Tracks from re-releases are eligible, but only the new tracks.

A list of songs ineligible this year because they were submitted last year: "U + Ur Hand" - Pink "Lost Without U" - Robin Thicke "Glamorous" - Fergie "Big Girls Don't Cry" - Fergie "Welcome To The Black Parade" - My Chemical Romance "Listen" - Beyonce "Hurt" - Christina Aguilera "Fidelity" - Regina Spektor "Boston" - Augustana *It makes little sense why most of these were submitted last year, but they were. A list of songs ineligible this year (except in Record and Video) because they are from albums that won an Album category last year: "Irreplaceable" - Beyonce (or any other track from the original version of the album) "Take Me As I Am" - Mary J. Blige "Runaway Love" - Ludacris f/ Mary J. Blige "Snow" - Red Hot Chili Peppers (or any other track from the album) *Some people say these songs are eligible for Song, but no song from an Album winner has ever been nominated in Song the next year (but plenty have been nominated in Record). I am bumping this post for people who are new to the thread.

I can honestly see The Sweet Escape getting Song and Record of the Year. Maybe ROY but TSE is not Song of the Year material - and honestly, I don't see Gwen getting any general award nominations - she doesn't have the buzz she did last time.

HITS continues to hype Feist for a BNA nod, citing Ann Powers' LA Times profile of the artist. Brandi Carlile may be an artist to watch in the BNA race. She has VH-1 exposure behind her, and her producer T-Bone Burnett is a recent Grammy Producer of the Year, Non-Classical winner. Hinder has gotten even more critically pilloried than Chris Daughtry, and the band suffers from the same Nickelclone problem in the critical eye, so I don't think it stands a chance at getting nominated in any General Field category.

I agree that both Hinder and Daughtry suffer from the Nickelclone problem in the critics' eyes with Hinder suffering it worse than Daughtry. Daughtry has the sales to back it up so Daughtry will probably get that token "high sales but not necessarily critically acclaimed" BNA spot. Hinder is out of luck.

Even if she does get a nom for BNA she'll be overshadowed by the other noms.

Feist should get some nominations. If Sufjan would release something new, he should as well. Mindy Smith should get several nominations as well for Long Island Shores.

Hmm, does anybody know if "The Sweet Escape" would be eligible for Female Pop, or Group or Duo Pop? Gwen can be nominated in the following categories: Album of the Year - "The Sweet Escape" Record of the Year - Any single from TSE Song of the Year - Any single from TSE Best Pop Vocal Album - "The Sweet Escape" Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - "4 In The Morning" Best Pop Collaboration w/ Vocals - "The Sweet Escape" And then of course there are the various remix and dance categories she could possible get nominated in. The video categories are still out there as well! And if she releases Yummy...that could be up for best Rap/Sung collaboration correct? Also...what competition do you all think TSE would have for Best Pop Collaboration w/ Vocals?

What does everyone think of My Chemical Romance's chances of an Album of the Year nomination are? I was listening to TBP this weekend and its really really great! I'd love to see the following get AOY nods... Amy Winehouse My Chemical Romance Maroon 5 John Legend Robin Thicke I know not all 5 of those will get it but it'd be awesome to see 3+ get nominated for major awards.

I hope carrie gets nominated for best country vocal and song- for before he cheats. It crossed over to pop and has spent almost 50 weeks in the billboard hot 100. great song- great artist.

How you folks fancy Mark Ronson's chances in the Producer of the Year category? And would he be eligible for BNA? The NY Times' Melena Ryzik has a profile on him today, to coincide with the US release of Version.

Producer of The Year is hard to predict. They always have such random nominations. I don't know if Timabaland will get one since he got snubbed last year

How does one know what songs/albums will be submitted for nominations? Does the Grammy's give out that list too?

hmmm...u never know tho. he releasaed an album this year, thats something to consider. my real fun comes in predicting whether kelly clarkson will be a big nominee/winner. her album has gotten fairly good reviews, but will this controversy crush any momentum she has going for her? i dont think never again will be nominated, but sober very well could be. and could my december be nominted for any album awards? its very interesting to say the least... Considering the way she badmouthed Clive and the suits at RCA, I would be surprised if they did much to push the CD in the nomination process.

The Grammy's do have a slot every year in the Album of the Year category for an alternative rock band and MCR had one if not the biggest alternative rock release in the 2008 Grammy time period. I would assume that a band like the White Stripes is more critically acclaimed, thus have a better shot at an album of the year nomination, but MCR should get some consideration for that slot.
