AskBillboard.comFor November 07, 2008 FREAK IT LIKE ADINA Hello Keith, I love reading your column every week and I think it's amazing whenever you find information for forgotten/obscure artists. My question is concerning singer Adina Howard's (best known for her one-hit, "Freak Like Me") most recent album, "Private Show." I know it never charted on any of the Billboard charts, but I was wondering if you could find out the sales of it so far since its release last year as well as how the singles off it did? George Portades Hi George,
Everyone remembers "Freak Like Me!" The single spent two weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. (It was trapped behind Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It," which spent seven weeks atop the list.)
So, Adina Howard's "Private Show" has sold 4,000 since it was released last year. Combined, the various tracks on the album have sold 6,000 digital downloads. The biggest seller is "Tease," which has moved nearly 2,000 downloads.

How does someone with one single get a greatest hits? Only in America, LOL. She had nearly a dozen singles in the U.S. however, just a handful really broke through and did something on the R&B chart. Of course, "Freak Like Me" was a big hit.

* Where are they now? Adina HowardTue Aug 16th 2011 2:44 pm Have you ever wondered what happened to some of your long-lost favourite artists? Well, we do, and thanks to technology we’ll be tracking down a few memorable names and faces who created the songs that are still played today to find out just where they are now. First up is American R&B singer Adina Howard, famous for the hits ‘Freak Like Me’ and ‘T-Shirt & Panties’…Hello Adina, how are you doing?Hey now! I’m blessed and marinated in high favour, thank you for asking. First things first, what have been some of the best moments for you throughout your career?Great question. Travelling this beautiful world of ours. Entertaining and meeting my fans, and seeing their faces during my performances are times in which I feel are some of the best moments in my career. Your family was supportive from the start in helping you pursue your dream, but was music the path you always wanted to follow?Truth be told, the path that I set out on had nothing to do with the music industry. After high school, my chosen career was forensics. Inspired by the movie Silence of the Lambs I wanted to be a forensic psychologist. Who was Adina Howard back in the 90s?Adina Howard back in the 90s was a young untameable female who enjoyed all the fruits that life offered. Who is Adina Howard now?Adina Howard is a seasoned woman. I’ve lived a life that has helped me grow up spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I am a no-nonsense type of woman. I’m more about living a purposeful life than a reckless one. In 1995 you released ‘Freak Like Me’ – did you ever contemplate its chart-topping success? No, at the time my focus was to finish what I committed myself to doing, and that was the music. The Sugababes also enjoyed commercial success with their cover of ‘Freak Like Me’. They are also known for changing their line-up of members – if the opportunity arose, would you join them? No, I do not believe that I would be interested in anything like that. However, depending on the situation, I wouldn’t mind working with the young ladies. During your career you were seen by many as one of R&B’s top sex symbols – how did it feel to have such a status?I never got caught up in the hype, so I didn’t feel any kind of way about it. I’ve been labelled many things in this life and that happened to be one of them. Your image also inspired and opened the door for the likes of Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown and Eve to incorporate sexual lyrics into their works. Does that mean you’re sort of responsible for their career?I don’t think so; though I’ve been told on numerous occasions that I am the reason for the season. I feel like this: I may have opened the door, but they had to walk through it. So at the end of the day, those ladies busted their butts and made their careers happen, not me. The newer generation of artists, such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Ciara and Nicki Minaj are also perceived as sheer eye candy. What are your thoughts? Do you think they deserve the label?Be clear – they are eye candy and there’s nothing wrong with that, but they’re more than just eye candy. They’re businesswomen. So do they deserve that title solely? No, they deserved to be observed as more. Speaking of Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj, you may know they have been feuding – what are your thoughts? Is it healthy for females to go head to head?I’ve heard about the feud, but I have no relevant opinion about their situation. As artists, I find them both to be talented and I respect their artistry. Is it healthy? If it’s about making money, absolutely. If they are seriously feuding, they need to grow up and get over themselves because it’s not that serious and they should respect one another for the success that each has achieved. How have you dealt with fame?Fame is overrated, so I don’t put a great deal of stock in it. I see myself as an everyday person blessed with doing a job I love. However, I will use it for what it’s worth. So, we’re pleased to hear you’re working on your fifth album. What can we expect? When it comes to the new album, expect the unexpected; my goal is to give the fans something they are going to love and did not expect to hear. And can you tell us more about these rumours we’ve heard that you’re writing a cookbook?Yes, they are true. Once I get it together, that will be a treat for my babies (fans). What are your future plans, beyond the upcoming album?Right now I am in culinary school, working towards my degree in Culinary Arts. So my future plans are to continue to build the Adina Howard brand beyond the success already achieved. Follow Adina Howard on Twitter @adinahoward or visit www.myspace.com/adinahoward

She seems cool, but she speaks like she's huge, or perhaps it's the interviewer's interview that makes it seem that way.

September 30th, 2011 - 10:02 am | Posted by Odienne Dina Chisolm Exclusive Interview: Then & Now Adina Howard !!!!Before pop princesses where singing about S&M and “motivating” their men, sensual R&B phenom ADINA HOWARD, 36, had jaws dropping with her raunchy style in her 1995 hit, “Freak Like Me.” Although we haven’t heard from her in a while, it’s a no-brainer Ms. “T-Shirt with No Panties On” is keeping things hot and not just on wax! Not to long ago HOWARD announced that she will be getting married Oct 3rdto businessman SHERMAN JORDAN, and to show her love for her fans, she will be having a public wedding reception Friday, September 30th, 2011 at Myst Night Club in Arizona. HOWARD recently caught up with Juicy to speak about her engagement, her latest endeavors, and being the best she could be. Get the low-down below: JUICY: You have started so many new chapters in your life since we last heard from you, to see you is an encouragement to always keep it moving…Adina Howard: At the end of the day, you need to focus on your time, your desire and follow what speaks to your heart. Be the best at what you do. If you’re a janitor, be the best janitor, be the best teacher. Just be the best YOU that you can possibly be. It makes the world a better place when you are content.JUICY: So what do you think of the R&B music scene today?AH: I don’t (Laughs)…there is no more real music today.JUICY: Back in the day did you think “Freak Like Me,” would be so big?AH: I didn’t even think about it beforehand. I just did my job and I was focused. It’s great that it was that huge, but I was just doing my job.JUICY: Now your just one man is seeing that freaky side? Congrats are in order, yes?AH: Yes, thank you so much. Yes, I am now engaged.JUICY: We hear that you are not only engaged, but you are in school too is that true?AH: I’m in school working on my Associates in Culinary Arts. I love to cook. I think its another form of entertainment and seduction. I love the instant gratification of feeding people. Also, I had to up my stock and add value to me as a brand.JUICY: Cooking up a storm, but looking at you, you are so fit..AH: Thank you. I am definitely a gym rat, but always being busy, I don’t always have time to work out. I have learned to be conscious of what I put in my mouth, and all the exercise I did over the years has also helped me to stay fit. I give myself growing room, but I like to look good, so I will not allow myself to go past a certain weight.JUICY: We hear that! Is there a restaurant to follow the degree?AH: Absolutely. I’m thinking it will be in Austin, TX. It will serve as a venue for entertainment as well. People will come in and wonder, ‘Okay, is Adina cooking tonight or singing?’ Singing will be a hobby for me, my restaurant and my business ventures take priority.Juicy: Now that you are on to the next one so to speak, what have you learned from being in the music business?AH: In this industry, they will give you crumbs on the table if they think you need them. I do this because I want to do this, not because I need to. I want to be here, I don’t have to be here. I walked away before….To listen to her most recent single “Too Close,” along with snippets from her forthcoming album, go to AdinaHoward.com.

I'm so PISSED that I totally spaced off and forgot about the reception this past Friday. I was TOTALLY looking forward to meeting her.....but, being that she lives around the same area (or at least it seems), I am hoping she will put on more small shows around this area.

EXCLUSIVE: Adina Howard’s Wedding Story: “Freak Like Me” To Wife! [PHOTOS]Written by Shamika Sanders on October 14, 2011 11:15 am Adina Howard is the original “Freak.” She made her debut onto the music scene in the 90′s with album Do You Wanna Ride? which spawned the platinum selling single “Freak Like Me.” Adina’s provocative and salacious lyrics paved the way for her following tracks: “Nasty Grind,” and the fan favorite “T-Shirt & Panties.” She is currently back in the studio prepping a new release. “This project is going to different from everything else because it’s not going to really be focused the sex aspect what people know me for. It will be to the left, completely unexpected. I’m an artist, I like to grow. I like to spread my wings and fly into a different direction!” says Adina when I spoke with her. Adina revealed to me that she was engaged and getting married in a few days (talk about two chicks in conversation heaven!). Read her Wedding Story below: “Initially Shermon and I dated in our 20′s, at one point I was not satisfied with how things were going. I felt that there was some growth that needed to take place. I told him ‘When you get yourself together, we’ll get back together’ and we remained friends. Periodically he would say to me ‘We need to quit playing and just get married.’ I’m like ‘na, I’m cool with the way things are.’ Some time would pass by and he would ask me again and my response would ‘I’m good.’
A friend of mine, she was like ‘Adina, I know there are some things going on between you and Shermon or whatever but that’s a good man right there and you better not let him get away!’ She looked at me and said ‘Let me tell you something, if you let that man get away, we gon’ have problems.’
While she was being his cheerleader I was thinking about our relationship in the past. Everything was gravy and we remained friends all the way up until this point. I was getting on a plane to go to Charlotte and I was thinking she is right and I am ready to settle up. I placed the call, he picked up the phone; I said ‘You still want to marry me’ he was like yeah.’ I said ‘let’s do it then!’It was there that I realized, Adina kind of proposed to Sherman!“I think it’s a situation to each it’s own at the end of the day everybody is not traditional. I think sometimes when there is too much pressure on a man he gets kind of buckled because it’s like ‘Why do I always have to do this, or that.’ Sometimes they want us to step up to the pate. Contrary to popular belief men want to be ruled, men want a woman to be romantic, men want to be loved on! I think it depends on the person; a woman has to understand she has to know her man. If you’re going to go that route make sure he isn’t not proposing because he doesn’t feel you’re the one”Sheer curiosity led me to wonder…“Well how do you know?”“Men have a way of expressing themselves, when they are ready to do something they gon’ do it! There’s no if, ands, buts or maybes. He’s been trying to get with me for the past 13 years. When they know what they want they go for it!”
“I overstand why women become Bridezillas; I get it–it can be overwhelming. Initially we were going to go to Justice Of The Peace. We were told after joining our church that we can get married in the church, So we decided to go that route only for it to snowball into this whole to-do.The Dress:I went to David’s Bridal, I was like ‘let me see what this whole tying on a wedding dress thing is about.’ Growing up, getting married was not something I dreamed about. I just want to be real cute for my wedding, I don’t need to go out and get a private label designer for my wedding. I just wanted something simple. I found a dress for under $100. It was the first dress I tried on. I was like ‘OK I’ll take you.’ I did get a little misty [eyed] I was in public I couldn’t break down. I was like ‘this is mine!’As for keeping her new marriage spicy in the bedroom:“It’s all about variety and switching up! ‘Missionary’ is cool, ‘Doggy Style’ is cool but sometimes you have to take it to the backyard, around the house…in the car PULL OVER! It’s about being spontaneous and again, knowing what your significant other likes. You trying to stick fingers in the butt and they don’t like that and you about to be kicked to the curb period!”We can learn a thing or two from Adina; she is comfortable with her sexuality “I gets down with the get down, it’s who I am it apart of my personality” she assures me before laughing. If there’s anything we all know, it is that men love a freak in the sheets. She is all that and more… Stay tuned in November for Adina Howard’s “How To Cook…” Special Feature for Thanksgiving!
