I was listening to Aaliyah's More Than a Woman single and thought, that if the plane accident wouldn't have happened, then probably Timbaland would have worked with Aaliyah instead of Nelly Furtado. Don't get me wrong - I really like Nelly's new songs - especially Promiscuous and Glow, but after I listened to More Than a Woman I realized that these songs were probably written by Timbaland with Aaliyah in his mind.

A lot of the songs Tim has produced lately sound like some stuff Aaliyah would have done. Her sound was definitely changing with her third album.

most of the songs that timbaland has done for brandy(afrodisiac),justin, and nelly furtado(loose) sound like something that aaliyah would sing...i think aaliyah wouldve gotten the song "promiscuous" instead of nelly.

I would've loved to have heard Aaliyah rap!! Aaliyah (the album) was cutting-edge and ahead of its time when it dropped back in 01 (because it still sounds so FRESH today) so I can only imagine how HOT her material would sound now if she were still alive. Trust, she'd be the #1 female R&B artist in the game! (tied with Mya!! )

In terms of innovation and creativity, Aaliyah would be in a league of her own.

rotflmao!...i would think aaliyah would be in the league with justin, bee, and christina if she were still alive. i know that she doesn't write most of her songs, and yes she may not have sold as many albums as justin/bee/christy/brit .. but she had more creativity and artistry in her little pink than the whole disney-mousey-class combined.

Did Aaliyah even write at all? If she didnt really write or produce, how was she more creative? Her dancing wasnt that great either. And we know how she is in the vocal department.

i believe she had co-producing credits to most of her songs .. she was very hands on all her reccords and the sound she created was followed by many .. her and timbaland made some beautiful music. all you have to do listen to the Nelly/Justin reccords .. ask anybody familiar with aaliyah's Music and they would telt you that Their sound is a Aaliyah rip-O-f-f

Aaliyah was amazing. She had one of the most soulful, soothing RMB voices ever. She had so much potential too... I agree with whoever said that she would be among the ranks of Justin, Christina and Beyonce at this point.
BTW one of my favorite songs by her was "We Need a Resolution" which sounds a lot like some of JT and Nelly Furtado's new stuff.

Aaliyah was just great ... Very talented, and nice person too... I love her, i will love her and 'Aaliyah' is one of the best RnB albums ever for me ... And Justin's 'My Love' reminds me A LOT Aaliyah's 'Are You That Somebody' ... RIP Baby Girl ...

I was not in anyway taking away from aaliyah's creativity...her aaliyah album is timeless and her videos from that era are timeless.

And we know how she is in the vocal department. whether or not aaliyah wrote her material she had great chemistry with producers like timbaland and static and she made great music.

Aaliyah was all that when she was alive, her dancing and vocals were mediocre at best.....she never wrote or produced any of her songs...Missy and Timbaland did all the work for her...they were the creative force behind her....

Her album, and single, at the time of her death wasn't doing good. I remember Vibe magazine giving a not so glowing review of the album. She was never a big seller, her album sales were steadily dropping. So I don't see her being in the same league sales wise as Britney/Justin/Christina. Her music sales would have suffered along with Brandy and Monica as the teen pop craze exploded.
Aaliyah didn't write or produce, and rarely performed, let alone tour. She never headlined her own tour, and did a couple of tour dates as an opening act like once or twice. I always wondered how she made money. But, since her uncle owned the label she was on, I guess she got a large allowance. She was starting to go into acting, and if she hadn't died, I think she would have put her music career on the back burner and focused on acting. That is where she was starting to grow and get noticed.
And Timbaland has distinct sound. Like Phil Spector and his wall of music. You know it when you hear it. I don't think he has Aaliyah specifically in mind when he writes songs for other artists. I don't see Aaliyah doing any of Nelly Furtado's songs from Loose, only because she co-wrote the songs. The lyrics are hers.

"My Love" definently sounds like something Aaliyah would've sang.

Aaliyah had this fragile star charm with strong creative personality and all she needed was to show it vocally. That's all she needed. You don't have to write songs by yourself. The world needs also collaborations, collaborations are what make the world interesting - unexpected chemistry - that what was collaboration between Timbaland and Aaliyah - like Rock the Boat or More Than a Woman. And can you imagine Timbaland singing these songs by himself???? But it seems, that Aaliyah was always too edgy to have similar pop success to this boy Timberlake or almost safe Furtado. Probably in money case Timbaland is even more successful with these 2 "popular" artists, but in creativity case, he's probably looking someone else to continue in Aaliyah's shoes...

Hmmm... wasn't there an "Aaliyah Discussion" thread around here? Would a mod be able to change the title just so there is one? Went back 600 days and couldn't find one... Either way.. I 've been listening to lots of Aaliyah lately.
Just wanted to share my love for "Street Thing" with everyone. Great vocals on that one. And you never really know how innovative an album is until you listen to it years later. It was true with One In a Million... most songs still sound so fresh to me. With Aaliyah she was def ahead of the curve. People are just NOW catching up to what she was doing in 2001. Oh.. what could've been.
Is it too much to ask for a collection on unreleased tracks? Damn it...
I wonder why she held back her vocals so much because on some songs you can tell that she had a great voice and could do all the belting and whatnots that people classify as really singing.

OMG, truer words were never spoken. I've always loved her singles, but I got round to listen to the album only many years later, and I remember like it was yesterday that I was completely hooked. I think the title track is Timbaland's better production.

Thank you! =)
While the innovative tracks on One In A Million were all Tim's she showed and proved that she was a HUGE part of the innovation with Aaliyah because he wasn't even a big part of the album. I can see that album being released right now and still be fitting to current trends. That's why I am curious about the other stuff she had left off. Most of it would all still work now.
