Going back all the way to the beginning in 1994, "Calling All Angels" was officially the first Hot AC # 1 that failed to reach the Top 20 at Pop. So the struggle of "Give A Little Bit" to reach the Top 40 is unprecedented. Thanks! Although the Dolls may not be saying that to Pop radio.

It's funny how different the formats have become. This song a few years ago would have been in the top 10 at pop right now, but this is just a glimpse of what is to come. Hot AC is really the POP station you'd expect if your going by how the format has been since Elvis up to about 2000. Since then year by year POP has played songs that sound so Urban, I never dreamed 5 years ago Snoop Dogg would have a better chance at the Top 40 than the Goo Goo Dolls. And I still can't see how the older demo can relate to some of these songs. I guess there are still enough good songs on Pop to be technically be called POP, but I do see why Hot AC Adult Top 40 is getting BIGGER in BIGGER. Here in Charleston,WV we have 2 Hot AC's, 2 Country,I AC, I urban and no Top 40's anymore. If u want rap & hip hop you listen to the Beat 98.7, If you want Hot AC modern WVSR 102.7, Hot AC with lots of 80's 100.9 MIX, theres no need for a Top 40 here and it's working in the ratings.

I think its a combination of how much more urban leaning pop is...and how focused it is on a younger demographic and the next big thing. How many artists in the Top 40 are in the same age bracket as the Goo Goo Dolls? Not too many. So their performance is disappointing but not too surprising.

I think its a combination of how much more urban leaning pop is Ugh yes, from 2001 through early 2003 CHR/Pop looked like a CHR/Rhythmic clone... then last year it looked like that phase was finally over and we were moving back into a more well-rounded direction. But with songs like "How We Do" and "Soldier" having soaring bullets, I guess 2004 was a fluke And by the way, I like Urban music and listen to my Urban station more than my Pop one.... I think Urban should be on Pop, but people like Usher, Alicia and as much as I don't care for him, Nelly. Acts like 50 Cent and The Game on the other hand, I mean, if I want to hear that type of Urban music, I'm going to listen to Hot 97 for it, not Z100. Nail on the head!

I totally agree with you guys and in 1998-2000 Rhythmic was a clone of Pop.
