DMX Planning To Release Gospel Album In '08 -- No Joke! MC has two albums on tap for this year, one of which will be 'straight 'Give God the glory' ' songs.By Shaheem Reid Many of DMX's conversations with God have been a matter of public record since his career bloomed to superstar status in 1998. His catalog features nearly as many inspirational ghetto hymns — such as "Lord Give Me a Sign," "A Minute for Your Son" and "The Prayer" — as it does party anthems and street-corner knockers, and in 2006 he pondered changing his name for "spiritual reasons." But now, the Dog has decided to go in full-throttle with his first-ever gospel-rap album, which he told MTV News will be coming out this year. "I [was] the first n---a to put out two albums in one year [It's Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood in 1998], now I'm gonna hit 'em again — drop two albums on the same f---in' day, yo," X said from his home in Arizona on Friday. "A double album will make mutha----as mad, because they gotta spend more money — plus it's already a long [double] album. I'm talking about a hip-hop album and a gospel album." Combined, the project will be called Walk With Me Now and You'll Fly With Me Later. "The same title is gonna be on both albums, but on one album one part [of the title] is gonna be [highlighted]," he clarified, and on "the other album, the other name is gonna be [highlighted]." The Walk With Me Now portion will be dedicated to straight-up, raw raps, while the latter will feature his non-secular undertaking. As for the gospel album, X noted that the lyrics will be "without cursing — how 'bout that one? No songs about b----es, no songs about robbing, just straight 'Give God the glory.' " He wasn't quite as talkative when asked why he decided to put out a gospel album now. "Destiny, I guess," he replied. "I just go with the flow." During a hiatus from hip-hop a few years ago, X said he contemplated leaving music altogether to become a minister, but decided to return to the mic. On Walk With Me Now and You'll Fly With Me Later, he said he'll be working with a variety of producers, from the familiar to the unknown. "It's a mix," he said. "I got my own dogs banging out tracks. Of course, I'm gonna feed my pups, but it's always gonna be Swizz [Beatz], PK, [Dame] Grease. It's always gonna be that. Real talk." The albums don't yet have a set release date, but the enigmatic and energetic MC said he's planning to have them out within the next few months. He recently inked a deal with the independent label Bodog Music to release the project. Bodog is probably best known for its online gambling division, but it has also gotten into promoting mixed-martial-arts fights and other ventures. "It's gonna be real big," Dark Man X said of his new deal. "I got the right amount of money I need. The thing about these big record labels is that they give you a whole bunch of money just so they can take it back from you. Then you don't even own your own sh--. I need to own my sh--, son. [Bodog] got enough money to do what I need to do and I'm good. They got more than enough promotion, they got other sh-- I can bridge off into. Not soft drinks, I'm not talking about sneakers — I'm talking about fights!" Another big fight, according to X, was his brief stint on Columbia Records. After he left Def Jam, in 2006 he signed a multi-album deal with Sony — his original stomping ground. (The label had signed X in the early '90s but only released an underground single.) Airings of a BET reality show called "DMX: Soul of a Man" preceded the August 2006 release of Year of the Dog, Again (the original Year of the Dog was supposed to come out on Def Jam, but X abandoned the album over creative differences), but X said his time at Sony was doomed almost from the start. "Sabotage!" he howled. "Sony turned out to be phony." He pointed to what he described as a mishandled rollout of his first single, "We in Here," and an unauthorized A&R call on another potential single, "Dog Love," as two debacles. "The second single was gonna be 'Dog Love,' " he said. "It was supposed to be three different broads on the hook: Amerie, Keyshia Cole and my artist Shan. Each one was gonna have their own hook. [Sony] put Amerie on there and left [everybody else out]. [Editor's note: Janyce also appears on the song.] They f---ed my whole sh-- up! "I had five #1-debuting records in a row," he continued. "[Year of the Dog, Again] was supposed to be number six. [Sony] released another record the same day they released mine, the Now [That's What I Call Music!] CD. They let the sh-- beat me by 1,000 [Editor's note: SoundScan figures show Now! 22 selling approximately 127,000 CDs that week while X's album came in just shy of 126,000 copies.] And they didn't tell me until after the week was up." DMX's former rep at Columbia was unavailable for comment at press time.

"Walk With Me Now" is the rap portion and "You'll Fly With Me Later" is gonna be gospel. I'm still not sure if its a double album or 2 separate albums with the same title.

May 7, 7:59 PM EDT DMX arrested for speeding, reckless driving in Ariz.
PHOENIX (AP) -- DMX was arrested after speed-enforcement cameras captured him in his bright yellow 1966 Chevrolet going 114 mph on a suburban Phoenix freeway.
The rapper/actor was taken into custody Tuesday at his north Phoenix home without incident, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Wednesday. He posted bond and was released.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was booked on charges of criminal speeding, public endangerment, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
Electronically activated cameras placed along the Loop 101 freeway in Scottsdale captured him three times on Jan. 21 in his Nova II with a large "DMX" decal on the windshield. He was driving at 100, 101 and 114 mph.
The speed limit on the stretch of roadway is 65 mph.
The 37-year-old's lawyer, Murray Richman, said he had no comment.

May 9, 6:42 PM EDT Rapper DMX arrested for drugs, animal cruelty
PHOENIX (AP) -- DMX was arrested on drug and animal-cruelty charges following an overnight raid on the rapper's house Friday, authorities said. The 37-year-old rapper, whose given name is Earl Simmons, initially tried to barricade himself in his bedroom but emerged when a SWAT team entered his north Phoenix home during the 3 a.m. raid, sheriff's spokesman Capt. Paul Chagolla said.
The arrest and search warrants stemmed from indictments for felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. He made an initial court appearance Friday where bail was sent at $7,500, said his local attorney, Cameron Morgan. Morgan said he expected bail to be posted quickly.
The indictment stems from an August search of the rapper's home prompted by reports of dogs being abused on his property. Detectives seized 12 pit bull dogs, dug up remains of three others and found marijuana on the rural property.
During Friday's raid, officials said more drugs were found and weapons seized and additional charges were possible.
Simmons' New York lawyer, Murray Richman, said he told his client to expect such a raid after his efforts to make DMX available to law enforcement were rebuffed.
"I anticipated it, I explained to my client what was going to happen," Richman said. He said he believed evidence did not support the charges of animal cruelty, which has been a major focus of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
"I think that the animal cruelty is not going to be able to be established," Richman said, "and I think that this is Sheriff Joe's moment."
A statement from Arpaio said someone of DMX means "has no excuse for not providing proper care for his animals."
Sheriff's deputies made a series of visits to the rapper's home in August after receiving reports of neglected pit bulls. They found a caretaker who had been hired to look after the animals.
Richman said DMX was not in Arizona in the weeks leading up to the initial raid.
The rapper has had previous run-ins with the law, including an arrest Tuesday by the Arizona Department of Public Safety after speed-enforcement cameras captured him going 114 mph on a suburban Phoenix freeway.
In June 2006, Scottsdale police cited him for carrying a concealed handgun outside a nightclub.
He also served 70 days in jail in 2005 for violating his parole following a 2004 incident in which he posed as an undercover federal agent and crashed his sport utility vehicle through a security gate at Kennedy International Airport.

May 15, 9:05 PM EDT Rapper DMX enters not guilty plea
PHOENIX (AP) -- DMX has pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. A judge entered the plea for the musician-actor (real name: Earl Simmons) at a brief court hearing Thursday. Simmons was late for court.
The 37-year-old rapper was indicted last week on 11 counts, including felony marijuana and paraphernalia possession and seven counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
The charges stem from an August raid by authorities investigating if he was neglecting 12 pit bulls at his Phoenix home. Some were dehydrated and appeared to be underfed. Three were found buried in his back yard.
The rapper has had previous run-ins with the law.

Jul 20, 12:34 AM EDT Rapper DMX arrested at Phoenix mall
PHOENIX (AP) -- Rapper DMX was arrested at a Phoenix mall Saturday on suspicion that he gave a gave a false name and Social Security number to a hospital to get out of paying for medical expenses.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said that when DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, went to Scottsdale's Mayo Clinic in April, he used the name "Troy Jones" and failed to pay a $7,500 bill.
DMX's Scottsdale attorney, Cameron Morgan, declined to comment.
Arpaio said his office began investigating the charge following an animal neglect investigation last year at the 37-year-old rapper's north Phoenix home. DMX was arrested in that case on felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after authorities seized 12 pit bull dogs and dug up the remains of three others.
The musician/actor has had other recent run-ins with the law, including an arrest at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport earlier this month on outstanding warrants after he failed to appear in court.
The week before, he was arrested in Miami on charges of attempting to purchase cocaine and marijuana.
"He's back in jail again," Arpaio said. "I don't know why judges keep letting this guy out. Every time he goes in there, he gets out on bond.
"I'm hoping this is the one time he's going to pay the penalty for his offense," he added.
Arpaio said the bond had not been set in the recent arrest.
If DMX remains jailed, the sheriff said he would be isolated from the rest of the inmates for his own safety. "They may not like his music," he said.

Aug 14, 7:48 PM EDT DMX arrested after not showing at hearing
PHOENIX (AP) -- A lawyer for DMX says the rapper has been arrested in Miami on a warrant for failing to attend a Phoenix court hearing.
Lawyer Charles Kozelka says DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, checked into a Miami hospital the day he was to appear in Phoenix and was planning on entering a rehab facility afterward.
Kozelka says the warrant stopped those plans, and that he had been trying to arrange for DMX to turn himself in at the airport.
A Phoenix judge issued the warrant for DMX on Tuesday after he didn't appear for a pretrial conference on four counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of marijuana.
The case is one of several Simmons is facing in Phoenix, including several animal cruelty and drug possession counts.

Wow. Not surprised. I always felt like DMX was one step away from being one of those homeless guys on the streets. He is probably schizophrenic, if I had to guess, based on what we know of him.

DMX is set to be released from prison on July 1. Rick Ross has offered him a record deal with Maybach Music Group, and DMX said he is strongly considering it. He is set to begin recording his first album since 2006 as soon as he is released.

DMX RELEASED FROM PRISON, PLANS COMEBACKDMX is free once again. The notorious rapper was released from an Arizona prison this morning after serving six months behind bars for a probation violation. X, born Earl Simmons, was upbeat upon exiting the facility and was already planning to get back to music. “I’m feeling good, I’m feeling real good,” he told AllHipHop.com. “I’m gonna see my daughter, I just got off the phone with my wife. I’m going to see my daughter while the sun is up then I’m in the studio, man.” DMX’s prison stay was lengthened by a week after he was caught in violation of multiple disciplinary infractions including drug possession, failing or refusing a drug test, unauthorized smoking, being disrespectful, and disorderly conduct. According to a press release issued by his label United Music & Media Group, he plans to collaborate with major names in music over the next couple of months and release “hard-hitting rap music that will leave no question as to who truly is the king of rap.” “Earl has so much more to offer the world,” stated his rep Nakia Walker. “His latest project has been on hold for so long! It is now time for X to redefine the world of hip-hop with his highly-anticipated album of inspirational, painful, and street-accredited rhymes. It is time to let the Dog out of the kennel.” www.rap-up.com/2011/07/19/dmx-released-from-prison-plans-comeback

DMX ARRESTED AGAIN Allegedly Topped 100 MPHDMX just proved, "Groundhog Day" is more than a movie -- it's a lifestyle for scofflaws. Law enforcement tells TMZ ... the rapper was arrested again, after being pulled over last night in Arizona for driving 102 mph in a 65 zone. And for good measure, Mr. X was driving on a suspended license ... so cops arrested him. He was booked for speeding, reckless driving, and the suspended license -- and has since been released on bond. FYI -- DMX has now been busted 10 times in Maricopa County, AZ. Back in 2008, Sheriff Joe Arpaio famously made the rapper -- along with his fellow Tent City Jail inmates -- sport a pink jumpsuit . www.tmz.com/2011/08/25/dmx-arrested-reckless-driving-suspended-revoked-license-criminal-speeding-chrysler-300-released-bond/
