FO1 = Nearly 4 million OF2 = more than 8 million source : Shakira.com ![](http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/5835/unitsvp0.jpg) That pretty much sums it up. There's no way FO1 has sold more than OF2. They mention FO1 has sold 4m, so they definitely meant that OF2 had sold 8m. Those are Sony's most recently sales figures. They where posted a few days ago.

Actually that sums it up the other way to me...Like I said...Vol 1 has probably sold 3.5+ (close to 4 million)...and Vol 2 has probably sold 4.5+...which equals...8+ total.
I have seen NO numbers that add up to anything NEAR 8 million. That would make it the biggest selling album of the past few years...

You're basing all your info off the UWC, which only tracks albums while they are on their chart, and they don't include the whole world. Sony knows all the copies of the Oral Fixations that where shipped. If you include all the countries that the UWC doesn't include, and then all the time that the albums where not on the UWC Top40 chart, there's no way they are both 8m combined. The UWC album chart is ONLY a top 40 chart. They are only counting sales while its in the top40. From that they have 8m for both. Its pretty obvious that the official numbers have to be well above 8m for both.

I am not basing all my infromation from UWC...I agree that Sony knows how many copies have been shipped...but you have to admit that saying that Oral Fixation has sold 8 million worldwide is a matter of semantics...either you could be right, or I could be right, they could be speaking about both albums combined, or just Volume 2. However, Sony and many other sources in the past have used Oral Fixation when talkign about BOTH albums, which is one of the reasons I believe they are more likely speaking about the total combined albums.
I also base my opinion on the fact that it is closer to what all the recorded sales for the album have been. It is true that Shakira is HUGE in places in the world where most artists do not sell at all...however, it is also true...that most of these places have a very limited music retail sector...and HUGE in these countries is often 50k or so. So yes, i would agree with you that UWC mgiht be a bit further of in Shakira's total numbers than in most artist...maybe Shaki should get a 10-15% add on instead of the usual 7.5%....but c'mon...85-100% add on is a bit rediculous in my opinion.

^Awesome...thanks :)
By the way, im a huge Shaki fan...I am in no way trying to diminish her accomplishments, her success is amazing whatever the numbers are...8+ just seems quite a bit too much for Vol 2. to me, and like i said, the usage of "Oral Fixation" makes it unclear. But maybe you're right...I actually hope you are :)

Shakira announces $40 million in aid for Latamwww.reuters.com/article/peopleNews/idUSN2725350120070928NEW YORK (Reuters) - Colombian pop star Shakira announced a $40 million donation on Thursday to repair damage caused by an earthquake in Peru and a hurricane in Nicaragua. The singer, widely known for her single "Hips Don't Lie," revealed the donation from a foundation she co-founded during a summit on global climate change and development organized by former U.S. president Bill Clinton in New York. Shakira is the co-founder of the Latin America for Solidarity Foundation, ALAS, which means wings in Spanish, with Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. "I've seen first-hand many of the challenges facing Latin America," she said in a statement. The two-time Grammy Award winner, who started another foundation to help poor children in Colombia when she was only 18, said 40 million infants do not go to school and 51 million people don't have access to clean water in Latin America. "These are challenging problems that no one person can address, but working together everyone can help make a difference," she added. The ALAS effort for Peru and Nicaragua includes partners like the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, Telefonica, America Movil and the Red Cross. It aims to guarantee investments for rebuilding education, sanitation and water systems in both countries. Shakira also announced a three-year, $5 million commitment for projects for children in the region, where about 40 per cent of the population lives in poverty. She gets into La Despedida so much! When she sings "cuando alguien se va" she actually sounds like she's having a breakdown!

The NY Times gave Shakira's LITTOC songs a great review. The New York Times - Shakirawww.nytimes.com/2007/12/16/arts/mus...amp;oref=sloginDon’t blame Shakira for the stiffness of the film “Love in the Time of Cholera,” based on the Gabriel García Márquez novel. As Colombia’s international sweetheart, she was the obvious choice to write songs for two crucial moments of the soundtrack (working with the score’s composer, Antonio Pinto), and in them she reaches for something vintage, acoustic, unadorned and brimming with tearful emotion. “Despedidas” sounds rural and Andean, with just guitars and drum and a six-beat rhythm; muted trumpets hint at some long-ago nightclub in “Hay Amores.” Separated from electric bands and flashy production, Shakira has never sounded more intimate. The songs are not on the album of Mr. Pinto’s score; they’re available through iTunes.

Shakira appeals for aid in storm-hit BangladeshDHAKA (Reuters) - Grammy Award-winning musician Shakira appealed on Wednesday to the world community to help rebuild schools in cyclone-devastated Bangladesh. Shakira, a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) ambassador, arrived on a three-day visit to Bangladesh on Monday and toured several coastal villages. She chatted to children who lost parents and mothers who lost children or spouses. "The world should give a helping hand to rebuild schools in Bangladesh," twice Grammy Award-winner Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll told Reuters in an interview. " ... because schools are the only place where children can pass happy moments forgetting all their saddest parts of life."Cyclone Sidr struck Bangladesh on November 15 with winds of 250 kph (155 mph) and a 5 meter (16 ft) sea surge that battered large parts of the coast. Nearly 3,500 people died and millions have been left homeless. "I rushed to Bangladesh when I came to know that some 3,000 schools were damaged in the cyclone," Shakira said. The storm also destroyed crops and infrastructure worth more than $2 billion. It is the worst disaster to hit the impoverished South Asian country since 1991, when a storm killed about 140,000 people. "I will never forget the faces of mothers who lost their children and the children who lost their parents," she said. She recalled how a mother named Shahnaj told of her children dying in her arms during the storm surge in a village named Charkhali, about 350 km (220 miles) south of Dhaka. "It was the saddest part in my life listening to all this ordeal faced by the mothers and children," Shakira said. She also visited UNICEF-sponsored education programs for children in northern Rajshahi city on Tuesday. "Schools help children to know what is good and what is bad. Schools will help them to know about AIDS and HIV, their individual rights and help transform the society," she said.
