www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=27989Queens of the Stone Age are back with a new album this summer. The rockers made the announcement through their official myspace page yesterday (February 14) that their record is titled ‘Era Vulgaris’ and will be released in June. The band also unveiled that tentative track titles included ‘Misfit Love’, ‘Sick, Sick Sick’, ‘Battery Acid’ and ‘Into The Hollow.’ In a slightly misleading message, they went on to write: “Could be song titles. Or could not. go sign up on the mailing list for future insider info then get off the internet and go get laid, its valentines day.”

www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=352066Queens Of The Stone Age Eye June Release February 15, 2007 The Queens of the Stone Age crew have never been ones to offer up a lot of straight forward information without throwing in a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor. In that spirit, the band has posted a vague message on their MySpace page, which says that their next album will be called Era Vulgaris and that it's coming out in June. Aside from that, the band posted some potential song titles - "Into the Hollow," "Sick, Sick, Sick," "Misfit Love" and "Battery Acid" - followed by the sentence, "Could be song titles, or could not." No other news was revealed, except that the Queens will soon be doing some press to announce the new album. The band was last seen playing at the launch party for Microsoft's Zune digital music player in New York City in November.

QOTSA Rocks Hard, Fast On 'Era Vulgaris'March 15, 2007 Jonathan Cohen, Austin, Texas Queens Of The Stone Age runs the gamut of rock'n'roll on its upcoming album, "Era Vulgaris," due in mid-June via Interscope. Nine tracks previewed by Billboard.com today find the Josh Homme-led group peddling fast, powerful riffs ("Sick, Sick, Sick," "Battery Acid," "3's + 7's") as well as more psychedelic, boogie-ish rhythms ("Suture Up Your Future," "I'm Designer"). Although Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and the Strokes' Julian Casablancas have been tipped as guests on "Era Vulgaris," the only audible guest on the aforementioned tracks was on-again/off-again contributor Mark Lanegan on "River in the Road." The group has also re-recorded the song "Make It Witchu," which Lanegan previously sang on volume nine and 10 of Homme's long-running Desert Sessions releases. Homme offers a number of pointed lyrical barbs on the set, telling the subject of "3's + 7's" to "lie to my face / tell me it ain't no thing / that's what I want to hear," and singing, "our generation's for sale / it's a steady job" on "I'm Designer." In the studio, Alain Johannes played bass, but it is unclear if he will be joining QOTSA on the road this summer. So far, the group has only announced a handful of summer European festival dates. "Era Vulgaris" is the follow-up to 2005's "Lullabies to Paralyze." That set has sold more than 342,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and spawned the No. 2 Modern Rock hit "Little Sister."

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Crown New Bassist?Launch Radio Networks reports: QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have reportedly hired Michael Shuman as the band's new bassist. Various online sources have reported that Shuman, formerly of Los Angeles act WIRES ON FIRE, had accepted an offer to join the QUEENS, although there's been no official confirmation. Until recently, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE had been without a permanent bass player since the dismissal of longtime member Nick Oliveri in 2004. Alain Johannes has logged the most time on the instrument for the group following Oliveri's exit. WIRES ON FIRE issued its self-titled debut album in January and reportedly plans to continue without Shuman. The new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE album, titled "Era Vulgaris", is due out in mid-June and follows up 2005's "Lullabies To Paralyze". The band has scheduled some summer European festival appearances but there's no word yet on U.S. tour plans.

QOTSA Finalizes 'Era Vulgaris' Track List April 05, 2007, 5:20 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Queens Of The Stone Age has finalized the track list for its next album, "Era Vulgaris," due in late June or early July via Interscope. The project features 11 songs, including two cuts, "Misfit Love" and "Run Pig Run," which were not finished in time for the playback Billboard.com enjoyed last month at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. "Misfit Love" is an ominous boogie-rocker with robotic vocals and fuzzed-out guitars crowding the mix, while "Run Pig Run" closes the disc with a bizarre mix of balls-out rock, siren-like guitar shredding, sudden tempo changes and chanted singing. Other highlights include the fast, powerful "Sick, Sick, Sick" and "Battery Acid," and the psychedelic "I'm Designer" and "Suture Up Your Future." Longtime collaborator Mark Lanegan guests on "River in the Road." QOTSA has announced a handful of European shows around the release of "Era Vulgaris," beginning June 14 at London's Wireless Festival. Here is the track list for "Era Vulgaris": "Turning on the Screw" "Sick, Sick, Sick" "I'm Designer" "Into the Hollow" "Misfit Love" "Battery Acid" "Make It Wit Chu" "3's & 7's" "Suture Up Your Future" "River in the Road" "Run Pig Run" www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003568082

Reznor Guest Spot Adds Mystery To QOTSA AlbumJonathan Cohen, N.Y. Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor did indeed join Queens Of The Stone Age in the studio during the recording of the upcoming "Era Vulgaris." However, his contribution to the title track of the project, due June 12 via Interscope, didn't wind up making the final cut. "We're going to get creative about how that song comes out and where it goes," QOTSA frontman Josh Homme tells Billboard.com. One guest appearance that did come to fruition was from the Strokes' Julian Casablancas on "Sick, Sick, Sick." Says Homme, "[Casablancas] is singing and playing a digital guitar. It's a lame looking thing, but it sounds really cool." Due to scheduling conflicts, Homme was unable to reconnect with ZZ Top guitarist Billy F. Gibbons, who guested on the prior QOTSA album, 2005's "Lullabies to Paralyze." "I heart Gibbons. That's the T-shirt I'm wearing," he says. "He was going to come down and then I was going to go there, but it just criss-crossed. Or didn't criss-cross." QOTSA will spend the first portion of the summer touring in Europe, but Homme says an unconventional U.S. tour will follow. "We're about to announce American dates that start in Bakersfield, Calif.," he says. "It's actually not any major cities. I learned something really great from Gibbons. He will play San Bernardino, Bakersfield, and Medford, Ore. That's why it's the people's music. So, we're going to places we've never been or rarely been. We want to play to people who hardly ever get shows and just burn the house down." Asked about the status of his long-running Desert Sessions projects, the last of which was released in 2003, Homme says, "There's nothing going on. I wish, but I've run out of time. I'm talking to this one guy about adding four more hours to each day, but he's not real positive about it. Those are never going to end, because there's no reason for them to end. But I'd like to make them more regular."

Sharon Osbourne lashes out at Josh HommeShe hopes 'he gets syphilis and dies' Sharon Osbourne has said she hopes Queen Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme "gets syphilis and dies" after he criticised her husband Ozzy's Ozzfest tour. Homme responded to a comment in this month's Blender magazine made about his bands decision to never take part in Ozzfest again because "they treat the bands like shit". Now Sharon, who created the Ozzfest tour in 1996, has responded with the following statement: "I hope he gets syphilis and dies. I hope his dick fu*ckin' falls off so his mother can eat it." Queens Of The Stone Age release their new album 'Era Vulgaris' in June.

Queens of the Stone Age (Live @ 100 Club, London)Dorian Lynskey Monday May 7, 2007 The GuardianFive years ago, Queens of the Stone Age were among the world's most extraordinary live acts. They evolved from Kyuss, a space-rock band renowned for throwing drug-fried parties in the Californian desert, and still resembled some kind of intimidating tribe who had wandered out of the sands, where one fancifully imagined they subsisted on a diet of peyote and human bones. Sandwiched between grunge phantom Mark Lanegan and clothes-averse bass viking Nick Oliveri, frontman and mastermind Josh Homme played straight man, an unyielding monolith around which the storm could rage. But the pathologically restless Lanegan left to forge new alliances, and Oliveri was booted out for unspecified transgressions. With three anonymous sidemen, the singer radiates beefy efficiency rather than star power. That is one reason why this intimate warmup show, in the kind of venue they haven't played in years, doesn't generate the excitement it should. The frenzied mob is small; the ranks of beer-sipping head-nodders much larger. Another reason is the glut of material from their forthcoming fifth album, Era Vulgaris. Instead of hits such as No One Knows, Queens play songs that no one knows. When, by way of introducing the decade-old Mexicola, Homme drawls, "Let's do some old stuff", the shriek from the crowd is almost pathetically grateful. Energised, a girl climbs onto her boyfriend's shoulders. Come the next new song, she climbs right back down again. Of course, they have the right to champion their next album, but tonight does not serve notice that we should brace ourselves for a classic. Some songs, like Misfit Love, have riffs that could atomise concrete, but only Turnin' on the Screw advertises the ear for melody that has previously made Queens much more than an exercise in brute force. Without that, there is only precision and volume, and you can get that from a drill. After less than an hour, they're gone, leaving underwhelmed fans to ponder the lopsided logic of such warmups. When you've made an effort to snap up limited tickets, or swelled the coffers of eBay hucksters, then watching your heroes prosaically plug their new product with minimal interaction and no encore must seem like a raw deal. They have to content themselves with sporadic oldies, such as Little Sister and In My Head, perhaps savouring the irony of the latter's refrain: "Keep on playing our favourite song." Chance would be a fine thing.
