This is so annoying. He's been recording Black Summer's Night since 2002. Then I heard about his problems with Sony, and now this. That sucks.

Considering how few singles he's even released, it just leads me to believe that Sony is trying to cash in which would mean he's been dropped.

Which "This Woman's Work" is that? Probably the "Unplugged" version, right?

I only hear the album version. That's the one that was released as a single.

It's too bad about his problems with Sony. I hope he gets singed. Maybe Jay Z will put him on Island

I don't know how true it is(so please don't attack me with a hundred comments), but i've read in a couple places a while back that maxwell's new album has content about homosexuality and the record company is afraid that this will turn away some of his female fanbase; and that is why his project has been shelved.

I guess he's being very headstrong about keeping those lyrics on the album. They can't make him do anything at this point, including stay at the label if they don't want him to release those songs. He can thank Teena Marie for his ability to get out of his contract that way. So, I'd say he will probably be switching labels very soon and that's why this compilation is coming out.

He could always take "Up the Hershey Highway" off the tracklist and replace it with the discarded "Love That Pussy".

Stick to your guns Maxwell. If you wanna write a song about some hot gay loving more power to you. Hell Sophie B Hawkins did way back in 1992 and it became her biggest hit or one of them

When she was with Motown in the late 70's and early 80's, they were restricting her artistic output. She left them for Epic and then sued Motown. They ruled in her favor and created a law that said that labels can not restrict an artist's artistic output while keeping them contractually bound to the label.

Maxwell, Fugees Get Busy On New Albums
Although details are scant at deadline, two of urban music's missing-in-action stars are preparing comeback albums. Sources say singer/songwriter Maxwell will return in February with a new album for Columbia/Sony Urban Music, his first since 2001's "Now," which has sold 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The artist has not been heard from at all since that project, which spawned three hit singles on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart: "Lifetime" (No. 5), a cover of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" (No. 16) and "Get To Know Ya" (No. 25).
Meanwhile, work continues on the Fugees' reunion album, which is expected in January and will be led by the single "Take It Easy." Although the trio has reunited a handful of times in the past year for live performances, it has produced no new material since its landmark 1996 album "The Score," which has sold 5.7 million copies.
As for group member Lauryn Hill's years-in-the-making sophomore solo album, sources say there is still no definitive release date on tap.

The release date is now October 25. Is this still confirmed? With the recent news regarding his new album coming in 2006, I was wondering about this. I still don't see any mention of a Hits album at Amazon.

Well, it's been 5 years since his last album "Now" was released. It appears that a new album is finally coming in early 2007! Fingers crossed! www.myspace.com/maxwell

I'll believe it when I see it. There have been so many tentative release dates over these last 5 years.

^ I know. It's so f*ckin' disappointing. Sony hasn't updated his webpage in years.
I'll take a hits collection with a few new cuts at this point, but of course I want an all new CD.

That date is preliminary. Sony wants to wait a bit and see if he'll have any major competition before okaying it.

This is crazy. It's been 5 years now and still no CD. He's just as bad as D'Angelo. Goodness!
