I guess now is a good time to mention that I am going to see Sara Evans in like 5 days SO HOW WAS SHE (of course she was amazing but still how did it go) Martina McBride will be like half an hour away from my college campus in April and the cheapest tickets are doable--about $90 or so. Here's to getting jobs and tickets henny! I suppose I had better respond to this, because SHE WAS FLIPPING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Literally!!! This was the fourth time I have seen her, and she literally gets better every time. Her live voice is SOOOOO powerful. Like, it literally leaves you starstruck when she opens her mouth and starts belting it out. She opened with "Long Way Down", and that song was pretty much a perfect opener, as she's serving vocals from the moment that song starts to the moment it ends. The crowd seemed like they were going to be insanely lame. Like, Sara's band walked on stage, and they literally only halfheartedly cheered for like 7 seconds, and then there was this awkward silence while the band all looked at each other and did a count off. And then BOOM they did the opening notes to "Long Way Down", Sara walked out, and the energy level suddenly jumped through the roof!!!! I already told you that song was perfect, but then she immediately launched into "A Real Fine Place To Start" right afterwards, and of course my mind was like, "ALREADY??!!" because I knew that song would be a high point of the show for me 😂 From that point forward, we were putty in her hands. And she really got us amped up. It was literally like 4 entire songs before she said a word to us. When she does talk, she is absolutely hilarious. She has a real deadpan sense of humor, for those who don't know. It can be kinda off-putting if you don't know how funny she is because you can't necessarily always tell if she's joking or not. You can get a sample of that if you listen to her recent live album, which kept all the between-songs banter. Anyway, her tour manager was having a birthday, and he apparently hates attention being drawn to him, so she made him come out on stage and sang a really over-the-top and hilarious rendition of Happy Birthday to him. Then next, she started going on a rant about how sometimes people feel really insecure, and sometimes if you face your fear you feel better. We wondered where she was going with it. And then she confessed that she was feeling insecure! And we're all looking around like, what? And then she pointed to a man in one of the front rows, and was like, "This man has not clapped even once yet, and it's making me feel really insecure!" 😂 And then pointed out that he looked like he had lost a bet or something, or had been dragged by his girlfriend against his will, etc. Finally she told him that they were in this together, and they might as well both have fun, and to prove that there were no hard feelings she made him come up to the stage and give her a hug 😂 It totally seemed like a scripted moment that she probably does in every show on this tour, but it was hilarious! This may be a #spoiler, but I don't care because SHE ADDED "SAINTS & ANGELS" BACK INTO THE SETLIST FOR THIS TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! The die-hards know how rare of a treat that is. This was the fourth time I'd seen her, but I had never seen that song live before!!! When the piano riffs started at the beginning, I just about passed out Anyway, my one big complaint about the show is actually pretty major, and that is that it felt waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too short. And not like the time flew by because we were having fun; it literally WAS too short. Like, she only did 12 songs before she left. Fortunately she then came back and did four songs for her encore, which was a nice treat because her encores are usually only 2 or 3 songs. But for the price you pay for concerts nowadays, and for how many hits she has, she could have easily done at least 5 more songs in the regular set. But her vocals were absolutely PERFECT for the entire night I have always loved her, but I am even deeper in love now!! Very few concerts have ever felt so perfectly satisfying from a quality standpoint. As her career has progressed, she has gotten more confident as a performer, and it shows. And her band is absolute top-of-the-line as well! Many of them are her family, with her sister slaying the background vocals, her brother playing guitar, and her son is with her now playing guitar as well! Next time she comes to WA, I WILL be seeing her again, without hesitation And I would highly recommend you do the same whenever she comes anywhere within like 500 miles of you! {Spoiler - Heres the setlist in case anybody wants to see it!} Long Way Down A Real Fine Place To Start Not Over You Saints & Angels Perfect Marquee Sign Crazy (Patsy Cline Cover) A Little Bit Stronger Slow Me Down Suds In The Bucket I Could Not Ask For More Born To Fly
Encore: Words Hard To Say I'm Sorry (Chicago) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cindy Lauper) Shut Up And Dance (Walk the Moon)

Sounds like a really good concert, if a little short (like you said). I'm surprised that she didn't do "No Place That Far", "I Keep Looking" or "Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus" (especially with all of the covers that she did).

Okay, in other news, Sara needs to get her act together and release a covers album ASAP. Like, since radio is done with her, now would be the perfect time! She is an absolute MASTER at picking the perfect cover songs to close out her concerts. Her rendition of REO Speedwagon's "Take It On The Run" is pretty much legendary by now. Her recent live releases of John Mayer's "Say", P!nk's "Just Give Me A Reason", Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down", and of course "Shut Up And Dance" are all insanely good, with "Lay Me Down" in particular being a major showstopper when I saw her 3 years ago, and SUAD seeming to become a fan favorite that she can't NOT do now. At this concert, Chicago's "Hard To Say Sorry" was possibly the most brilliant vocal she has ever put out, and she got a huge standing ovation last weekend for it.
And her country covers have always been fantastic and underrated too, with Patsy Cline's "Crazy" getting a huge reaction the other day, ranging all the way to her performance of Keith Whitley's "When You Say Nothing At All", and Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man" at the ACM Girls' Night Out special, to her cover of The Judd's "Why Not Me" on her recent live album. She is just such a brilliant coverer, who needs to work that magic in the studio like today please!!

I'm surprised that she didn't do "No Place That Far", "I Keep Looking" or "Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus" (especially with all of the covers that she did). "No Place That Far" is extremely rare for some reason! Out of all her #1 hits, she pretty much never does that one, and it's kinda depressing. She has sang "I Keep Looking" every time I have seen her until now, so I am assuming she probably swapped that one out for "Saints & Angels". But you're right, I don't see why she couldn't do both! "Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus" is one I have literally never even heard of her singing! Talk about one that would probably get a huge fan reaction if she dusted it off again!! "Cheatin'" is another huge hit that she simply doesn't go near anymore. I imagine it hits a little too close to home now, after her big messy divorce practically right after that song's chart run... Ideally I would have loved to hear "I Keep Looking", "As If", "No Place That Far", and maybe another unexpected album track or two thrown in (if not "Cheatin'"). That would have made it a perfectly well-rounded show. Like, I know for awhile "Every Little Kiss" has been a semi-regular fixture in her shows. Can you imagine if she broke out something like "Niagara" or "New Hometown" perhaps?? Lmao a guy can dream! Edit: I keep hoping maybe she'll bring back "Three Chords And The Truth" one of these days too. It is certainly a song that would get a huge fan reaction, especially because it would be hella unexpected! The rest of her debut doesn't have much relevance to her career these days, but I feel like that title track still has a bit of a life of its own that is bigger than the album from which it came.

Sara is probably the biggest female artist from the late 90s-00s that I've never seen in concert, so I wasn't too familiar with her setlist. "I Keep Looking" and "As If" are two of my favourites of hers, so I would hope to hear them if I ever did see her live. Like you said, I get why she doesn't do "Cheatin'", but maybe "You'll Always Be My Baby"? That was a decent hit, and another good one from Real Fine Place (my favourite album of hers). Of course, my favourite song of hers is "Missin' Missouri", but I don't know how often she ever does that one.

Of course, my favourite song of hers is "Missin' Missouri", but I don't know how often she ever does that one. Yeah, she has done "I Keep Looking" and "As If" every time I have seen her until now (other than "As If" not existing yet the first time I saw her in 2005 like a month before the RFP album came out... Lol), so there's a pretty good chance you might hear both! "You'll Always Be My Baby" probably not so much, it seems to be one of her more forgotten hits. Unfortunately, her album tracks tend to be pretty predictable. She doesn't rotate them out very frequently, so you will probably know what's coming unless you have never seen a setlist, or have never seen her before. Like, I'm pretty sure "Not Over You" has been on the setlist the entire time since the Slow Me Down album was released. And like I mentioned, "Every Little Kiss" was randomly in the setlist a few years ago, but it definitely stayed there for at least a couple years. She definitely tends to do more album tracks from the most recent album, so like last time I saw her I'm pretty sure she also did "Can't Stop Loving You" in addition to "Not Over You". CSLY has since been dropped, and instead she's thrown in "Words" now. When she throws in album tracks, she pretty much always goes to her most recent album or two rather than her early-career. (Although it's not impossible, because Every Little Kiss is obviously early-career!) So if she ever does start throwing in something like "Missing Missouri", you will probably have heard already that she is going to from someone gushing about it on Pulse or something, lol. The chances of her springing that on you unexpectedly are slim to none. Still, VERY much worth seeing her live though!!! Like I said, she puts on an outstanding show :)

bboat11 oh I am infinitely jealous! If she was gonna be here in Indiana I would've worked to get myself there, but she had a stop so far into Ohio that it might as well have been Pennsylvania and I can't do that just yet. Here soon tho, next time she comes around--a little closer hopefully! (Shocked at that short ass setlist and the fact that songs like "No Place That Far" is so rare live.) I'm also still hoping for the Martina McBride concert to be within grasp! Unlike Sara, Martina will actually be like a county away from me in April, and the cheapest tickets are $96 each so like that's very easy to do by saving money tbh

Honestly, her voice has started aging, so don't go expecting her to sing a lot of her huge belters like "Where Would You Be". In fact, a lot of her live performances from 2016-2018ish sounded BAD, like I honestly think something was wrong with her voice with how rapidly it declined over like a one-year span. She both looked and sounded like she was struggling, even on easy mid-range notes. However, when I saw her last summer, her low and mid-range were as powerful and perfect as ever, and her overall demeanor was extremely comfortable! She did not strain to hit notes, she did not have any of her old bad habits for pushing high notes out, like turning her head to the side and forcing them out. Every move she made was so confident, and she had nothing but open body postures, and the sound came along with it. Everything about her performance was just downright effervescent! So I think it is really apparent that she has been working with a vocal coach or something to help undo some bad habits that started forming as she tried to combat the natural deterioration of age. Honestly, it was a very good show, even with a slightly rough vocal in places. There were lots of people around me who kept turning to each other and being like "OMG SHE'S STILL SO GOOD!!!", which is a really good sign! Lol. My uncle had never seen her before, and he was like super starstruck when she walked out on stage. Here's a great pic I snapped that was pretty symbolic for how the whole show felt. Confident, fun, comfortable, and just plain happy! (And yes, that is a REAL steel guitar behind her. She is one of the most steel-heavy live performers you will ever see!! Still has a fiddle too!) One of her best performances of the night was "When God-Fearin' Women Get The Blues", which definitely has some high notes in it. Also, she still belted out "Anyway" REALLY well, and way better than I expected her to. I kinda thought that one would have been cut by now to preserve her voice, so that was a pleasant surprise! And she still hit that E5 at the end of "Whatcha Gonna Do", which is a song I thought I would never get to hear live again because of how high it is! So the point is, whatever she has been doing for the past year or so has been working. castleoblivion26 saw her a couple months ago, and can confirm it was a huge improvement from when he had seen her a couple years ago. You are in for a real treat

Hoo doggies, she sounded God-awful during that Dolly tribute at the 2016 CMAs. Incredibly flat notes, and as she began her part of the "women of country performance" at the 2019 show, she still sounded like she let a flat note slip, but she was infinitely better than that 2016 performance.

I highly recommend seeing her too! I've seen Martina a lot (maybe 10 times or so? I don't really count, haha), and I've always been really impressed. I'm seeing her again on this tour too, after seeing her last in June 2019. I would definitely recommend seeing her, but sooner rather than later, as bboat11 said. Not that she isn't still great, but would be nice to see her when her voice is as good as it could be. I saw her in the early 2000s for the first time, and she was phenomenal then. Not that she isn't still really good now, but there is a difference for sure.

For my birthday, I just got tickets to see Lorrie Morgan in like 2 weeks!!!!!! I am shook!!! And get this. The venue is a tiny theater about a county away. Like, a 700-seat theater. In fact, the exact same theater that my high school jazz band literally performed in every year for a jazz festival back when I was in the band 😂
Getting chills thinking about the fact that I am about to see a former big-time recording artist in a venue that I have literally performed in myself!

Obviously biased but I echo the sentiments above: Sara Evans is an absolutely phenomenal live performer. My mom just message me the other day to let me know she's performing in the casino near my hometown in September and I haven't seen her in two years now so I've been chomping at the bit recently for the chance to plan my next Sara Evans show, so that might just pan out for me to see her this fall!
I've always been a little perplexed at the way she ignores "No Place That Far," because it was her first #1 hit and did quite well at the time (it even made the top 40 on the Hot 100, even). I saw a live video once from a few years ago I believe where some guest yelled out a request for her to play it and she performed about a minute-long snippet of the song, but before she launched into that she remarked something to the effect of not knowing if she and/or her band knew how to do that one, lol. The one I'm saddest about her ditching is "Coalmine," because anyone who followed my rankdown knows that is my favorite Sara Evans song. She actually kept it in her setlist for a long time considering it was a commercial failure for her (she used to do it as a segue to introduce her band members for awhile). I was surprised at how many album cuts she did from Words when I saw her back in 2018; I think she did like 6 songs from the record at the time.
I really hope she has new music cooking for us because the past few years she's seemed to set a pace of a new album every 3 years, so this would mean that she's due for a new studio project in 2020. I'd love to hear new material by the time this fall rolls around if I go to that concert!

Started a stretch of 4 straight weekends with a concert with Tanya Tucker and Brandy Clark last week, which was great. Tonight was Neal McCoy. Lemme say that was one of the most entertaining shows I have ever seen. hadn't seen him since 2005 I think and honestly no idea why. One of the funniest I've ever seen in person.
Next Saturday is Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen, and Riley Green. Following friday is the Oak Ridge Boys. Making up for a quiet mid-December through february for me.

Martina's new tour was supposed to start tonight, but the first weekend of dates have just been postponed: I feel bad for her and all the fans with tickets, it sounds like she's been working really hard lately, has put together some new surprises in the setlist, and is really excited for this tour! Anyone else with tickets for later in the tour, stay tuned to see if those dates have to be affected too ( fearlessarrow , also taylor did you ever get those tickets? Lol)

Ok, it’s high time to revive this thread I think lol (last post was from taylor wayyyyy back in March of 2020!). I actually am going to my first show tonight (not calling it my first concert because it’s more of a honky-tonk music venue). California native and Texas transplant Jesse Daniel is performing who I’ve wanted to see since last year when I first discovered him. Like most everyone else, his anticipated second album did get released but the subsequent tour got cancelled.

It's so nice to see this thread come back to life again. I could cry at the return to normalcy. TJ and John are heading to Indiana on September 3, and Chris Stapleton will be here on September 25. Of course, I'm wanting to take a day off in either December of April (if tickets aren't already completely gone) to see Carrie's Vegas residency. Haven't bought tickets are any of these yet, but I'll be going to something eventually, that's for sure!

I went to my first concert in 592 days just on thursday night! It felt so good to be back! Coming up in july we have our local fair and i’m pretty sure im gonna go see Chris Young there, opener is Michael Ray. I’ve seen them both before but its only $35 and its on a weekend so im pretty sure im gonna go to that. Also in July i’ll be attending Twin Cities Summer Jam! Almost the same lineup they were supposed to have in 2020, the main ones i’ll see there is Carrie, ZBB, & Brett Young. Ashley McBryde is also there i think. Haven’t decided if im going to wefest yet, not becuase i don’t want to, but because the friend i usually go with wont be around. But i still might go, we’ll see. Dierks is there among many others, so i am seriously considering it. Im very much looking forward to this september when i get to go to my rescheduled from 2020 Luke Combs concert! Aaaaand i did buy a ticket to Carrie’s Vegas residency! But the one im going to isnt til april next year, so im sure there will be others in between now and then. Will actually be my first time in vegas since route 91. I was supposed to go with some friends in spring 2020 but that obviously got cancelled. There’s also some non country ones i’ll be going to as well. Feels great to be mostly normal again!

So…I was perusing Ticketmaster to verify something I had seen involving Carly Pearce, and it was right. Y’all, I’m so excited. Carly Pearce will be in Chicago (three hours away from me!!!) on Saturday, November 6. She’ll be at a bar called Joe’s on Weed Street, and by then I’ll be 21 and able to go, so it’s something I can try to go to…especially since the tickets are only like $20!!!!!!!! If I actually get to see Carly on November 6, I might actually weep. She would FINALLY be my very first concert experience, and while I’m there (if I can go) I hope we’d be able to meet her. I definitely took concerts and live music for granted before COVID took everything fun away from us, so now that it’s back, I’m definitely very excited and want to take every possibility that I can to have fun experiences and make good memories.

I saw Little Big Town with Hailey Whitters last month, which was an awesome concert

Now that I'm home from the hospital I can say that I got Covid at the Luke Bryan concert 3 weeks ago tonight. Was traced by the DHS here in Minnesota to that day.
And that show was horrendous to get into. Got to the road at 6 PM, 7 PM start time. Did not get parked until 8:30 and missed all of Dylan Scott plus the first few Luke songs. on top of that the WiFi went down so we had to stand in line to get printed tickets and one woman refused to produce an ID so we had to wait 20 minutes more. one road to a show with 20,000 fans is awful.
This case is going to cause me to really pull back on going to uch for a while. Still going to Strait and Stapleton in November though.

A couple things... One that has aged well, and one that has not at all... Okay, in other news, Sara needs to get her act together and release a covers album ASAP. Bae checked this box off for us like literally a couple months later!!!! Sounds like a really good concert, if a little short (like you said). I'm surprised that she didn't do "No Place That Far", "I Keep Looking" or "Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus" (especially with all of the covers that she did). "Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus" is one I have literally never even heard of her singing! Talk about one that would probably get a huge fan reaction if she dusted it off again!! I feel REALLY dumb reading this... Just the other day Facebook gave me a reminder of my post from when I saw Sara in the summer of 2016.....and the video that I had posted of her was her singing "Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus" So not only has she been known to sing it, but I had literally filmed her singing it the last time I saw her For my birthday, I just got tickets to see Lorrie Morgan in like 2 weeks!!!!!! I am shook!!! And get this. The venue is a tiny theater about a county away. Like, a 700-seat theater. In fact, the exact same theater that my high school jazz band literally performed in every year for a jazz festival back when I was in the band 😂 Getting chills thinking about the fact that I am about to see a former big-time recording artist in a venue that I have literally performed in myself! Also, still waiting for my Lorrie Morgan show to happen. They had initially rescheduled it for like a year later, but come this past March the vaccines were just starting to roll out and the concerts were not really a thing yet, so it ended up getting postponed again, and we're still waiting for word. I'm probably going to get to see Lorrie Morgan for my 27th birthday when I'm 29
