I wanted to open up a new thread in which members that normally post in this part of the forum to post a link to a small band that they feel doesn't get the play on radio that they should or an unsigned band that you think could be a player in the future.
I've seen a couple of music industry blogs that do this, and I like it because it opens up my eyes to artists that I would have otherwise ignored.
Post an artist...maybe mention the song that you like the most and news if you have any about that artist. I hope that this branches out to other forums on the board if this is successful.

The prime suspects: Foals White Rabbits The Kills The Raveonettes
The first two are newer acts; the second two are established but have never really caught on to the degree I expected.
I'd like to see something from the new Bauhaus album get played on this format.

I know "Dance Of The Manatee" did decently, but their second single bombed, which prompts me to say that Fair To Midland, I think is the best new band I've heard last year. Very interesting sound, poetic lyrics, and beautiful melodies. "A Wolf Descends On The Spanish Sahara" and "The Wife, The Kids, And The White Picket Fence" both deserve to be radio hits.

My bunch would be Porcupine Tree, Fair To Midland, Karnivool, Ours, and Dredg. Penance already took care of FTM (what the hell were they thinking, releasing "Tall Tales" anyway?) Anyway, my favorite band of all time, Porcupine Tree is a band that I'm on a mission to share with everyone. They reached the top 30 on both Active Rock and Mainstream Rock chart briefly in 2005 with "Shallow," but that's hardly what they've made their career off of. They've been around since the early 90's and their newest album "Fear Of A Blank Planet" beat out the new Rush album and new Velvet Revolver album for album of the year in Classic Rock Magazine's end of the year awards. They're so versatile and so intense musically. If I had to compare them to anyone, they're like a significantly harder and modernized Pink Floyd. Sorta like a cross between Pink Floyd, Metallica, Tool, and Radiohead. For fans of bands like Tool and co, check out "Blackest Eyes" and if you have time on your hands, all 17 minutes of "Anesthetize" (trust me, it's worth it). For the more alt-ish fans on here, check out "Trains." Actually, I think "Trains" is probably the essential Porcupine Tree song for everyone the more that I think about it. And if you're curious about their radio single, "Shallow" was pretty good too. Karnivool is a find for anyone here who likes Ra and Deftones. I would suggest checking out "COTE," "Themata" (which was their single) "Roquefort," and "Sewn and Silent" if you wanna hear a ballad. "COTE" sounds a little Deftones-ish, "Themata" makes use of Egyptian/Arabian modes, which is why I compared them to Ra. "Roquefort" has one of the best opening riffs ever. And "Sewn And Silent" is just a pretty song. Plus, they're Australian, which means the singer has a really cool accent. For the alt/indie crowd, and even more for fans of Jeff Buckley, the band Ours is a tremendous find. They had a decently big single in 2001 with "Sometimes" (peaked at #30 on alt roughly). They're coming back with a new album in mid-March. www.myspace.com/oursmusic. I think anyone could like them. Singer/songwriter/primary band-member Jimmy Gneco was voted onto VH1's top 100 countdown of best male vocalists of all-time, and considering how under the radar they are, that probably means he's good enough to be top 10 if people knew who he was. Absolutely beautiful yet somewhat dark music. My last band would be Dredg. For Tool fans, "Leitmotif" is probably up your ally. It's really raw sounding, but in a really effective way. "El Cielo" came two years later and feels like a much harder version of Coldplay. Similar spacy and ambient qualities to the music. "Catch Without Arms" is a more generic effort, but I could see a lot of alt-fans getting into songs like "Ode To the Sun." And if you like "So Cold" by Breaking Benjamin as much as I do, you'll realize that the melody resembles that of "It Only Took A Day" by Dredg which came two years before "So Cold." As far as Fair To Midland, perhaps their next album will get them more recognition, kinda like Hurt's "Ten Ton Brick" is making a killing at active rock right now and top 40 at alternative, after "Rapture" and "Falls Apart" were both only moderate radio hits. And to add to Penance's list, I felt like "Walls Of Jehrico" and "Kyla Cries Cologne" also screamed 'radio hit.' They wanted to release "Walls Of Jehrico," but their label advised them to go for "Tall Tales." Stupid record companies... =p

I see your Dredg and Karnivool, and I raise you Wintersleep and Sinch.
The former is a Canadian acoustic rock band that makes very moody kind of music. It's always felt to me like they're on the same page as Tool, actually, but approaching from the other end. The first album especially is very solid. I have yet to hear their new album, Welcome To The Night Sky, but I plan to do so as soon as possible. A couple members were also in a band called Kary, which I also recommend. Look at Wintersleep as being the softer side of Kary.
The latter is a hard rock band that I have always championed because they sound incredibly unlike any of the other hard rock bands out there that I have heard. Very poetic lyrics, very progressive, and their use of their own musical invention, the ocular noise machine, is a plus. The songs "Silence Broken", "Identity Theft", "The Silent Acquiescence Of Millions", "433 (Hypothetical Situation)", and "The Power Of Suggestion" are all awesome songs, although most people will know them for "Something More" and "Tabula Rasa", which were the singles from their first album on Roadrunner. They're now working on their third album, and I can't wait.

DUDE SINCH IS f**kING AWESOME!!!! Damn Roadrunner for dropping them. Though Rock Ridge ain't too shabby either. "Bitmap" by Sinch is my favorite song of all time that wasn't written by Porcupine Tree.
I'll have to check out Wintersleep.

I'm pretty big on female-fronted bands...obviously since I'm a major fan of Paramore, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, and the like...so I'm pretty much going to mention all female-fronted bands here. Valora-A band that I'd heard after I heard they got signed to a record deal. They're now touring with, of all groups, The Jonas Brothers. Listen to: I Waited for You Fireflight-A band that had one of my favorite albums of all of '06 is coming out with a new record. Their sound is amazing. Listen to: You Decide Vertigo-My friend from Vegas was into these guys...but I hadn't paid attention...then they came up again on Tunelab Music, my favorite music website, and I like their music. I'm definitely going to see them in May. Listen to: These Adult Bones, Evaporate The day after...-My friend from Vegas also got me into this band...who is from Vegas. She came to NYC in October of last year and I got to see these guys twice while they were here. Great band. Listen to: Hum, Car Crash Damone-I bought this album back in 2006. It's a good album...but when it had run its course, I stopped listening. A friend on a message board mentioned these guys again and I've been listening to them ever since. They're on a major label for chrissakes! Listen to: New Change of Heart, Out Here All Night, What We Came Here For Halestorm-Pennsylvania band who got signed to Atlantic Records in '05, put out a live EP and haven't released anything since. They're like a female-fronted version of Shinedown. Lzzy Hale's voice is phenomenal. They opened for Seether, Shinedown and Flyleaf for Sno-core '06. Listen to: It's Not You, Takes My Life Off the Beat-Not really a band...they're an a capella choir for The University of Pennsylvania that makes these great covers of pop and rock songs. <3 Listen to: Miss Murder, The Kill

For the alt/indie crowd, and even more for fans of Jeff Buckley, the band Ours is a tremendous find. They had a decently big single in 2001 with "Sometimes" (peaked at #30 on alt roughly). #31. I'd decided about a year ago that this is one of the most underappreciated songs of the decade, and I'm not a part of the alt/indie crowd and never could get into Jeff Buckley. I haven't heard Leifmotif, but El Cielo and Catch Without Arms are first class albums (and there's nothing generic about CWA). Its title track is what should have been their breakthrough, but I guess their label didn't feel like putting money behind a potshot at them, and it was one-and-done after "Bug Eyes" fell short of the top 50. I really hope we hear from them this year.

Yeah, I didn't mean that "Catch Without Arms" is generic...just more so than their previous two albums. I guess I mean that it's slightly more streamlined than "El Cielo" and "Leitmotif." I would never wanna be hatin' on "Catch Without Arms."

Only a couple of think of that arent well known at all. Sleddogs - A band from BC Canada, heavily seventies influenced, straight forward rock but definitely likeable and could easily seem them growing to put out some good stuff www.myspace.com/sleddogs Check out Lack Of Control and Perfect Place I noticed the mention of Porcupine Tree, I really like Blackfield too, which is a collaboration with lead singer Steven Wilson, and Israeli rock artist Aviv Geffen. Check out End of the World. The Enemy - check out Live and Die in These Towns and You're Not Alone and This Song The Twang - probably most have heard them, but they should get a little more attention IMO. check out Wide Awake and their cover of Drinking In LA (for that matter check out a bunch of the covers on the Radio 1 Established 1967 album. The Foo Fighters version of Band On The Run is awesome) The only other one I'd mention is Metric. They didnt blow up as much as I thought they would, however I would strongly suggest taking a listen to their first album,if you can get it, it was recorded in 2001 but was not released until middle of 2007. The sound is different and apparently they didnt even want it released because they felt the "fans" wouldnt understand the older sound. The song On The Sly might be one of my favorite songs of the decade though. Those are just a few. There were a lot already mentioned that I would agree with here.

Bang Camaro definitely needs to be bigger. You might know them from Rock Band and the first 2 Guitar Hero games, and they've been around for quite a while. The thing most awesome about them? Their lead singer is a freakin' CHOIR. (Seriously, the vocals are done by a choir. Here's a link.) youtube.com/watch?v=f9yCJlmkyX0P.S., how do you hide links in text? Just wondering.

If I recall, you insert the link behind the equals sign after typing url= in brackets, then type the word you want to mask it with, then type /url in brackets, and, using your link as an example, it should look like this.

www.myspace.com/leothebandLeo They opened for Hurt at Thursday's show and have close ties to Chad Szeliga, drummer for Breaking Benjamin. Chemical Cell and Na Na are pretty good songs. I think they sound like a mix of Deftones, 30STM, Muse, and BB. www.myspace.com/charettamusicCharetta A band that I got into after seeing them last month. They just put out a three song EP produced by DND frontman Brett Hestla. Their like a mix of Lacuna Coil and DND. I see them again next week.

Bumping this up with another band that everything I've heard from them has been really good. The band is another band from Missouri...Kansas City to be exact. The Leo Project is soon to be finished with their second album. The lead's vocals remind me a little bit of Lajon Witherspoon. I'm definitely getting their first and new album whenever it comes out. Listen to: Black Heart Answers & Without the Sunshine.

So, I thought I would throw in my few favorite bands that never got the huge followings and success as others.
Absence of Concern - I picked up "Open Letters to a Closed Mind" a few months back. I can listen to the whole disc without skipping tracks, but there isn't a HUGE breakout song on here. Not bad at all though.
Blackline - A recent find, I picked up their self-titled debut. Singer's got a unique voice and, overall, the whole disc is pretty good
BulletProof Messenger - PLEASE check these guys out. This band is my absolute favorite and I am DYING for them to put out a new record. Their debut, "The Crucial Line", has so many differences between songs that I never feel like they are bleeding into each other. Every song provides me a different feeling inside. The lead singer's voice is amazing and everything about this record is amazing. Do yourself a favor and pick up this CD, you won't regret it.
Tracenine - I grabbed their debut "Breaking Silence" on iTunes a little while back. It was in my "suggested" section and I checked a couple samples and dug them, so I bought it. There are a few songs on this disc that I could do without, but then "Let Me Go" and "Eye For an Eye" are absolutely fantastic. I love the flow and musicianship in "Let Me Go" as it always gets my body moving. Very unique style and vocals.
Here are a few other notable mentions, though (unfortunately) some of these bands have since dismantled.
AM Conspiracy (Jason "Gong" Jones from Drowning Pool's new band) Axium (David Cook from American Idol's former band) Bleak Clockwise (Does anyone know if Austin LeDuc went to another band) Downstream Epidemic Illbreak Lo-Pro (I'd like some new stuff from them for sure) Outspoken (David "E" Frasier went on to a new band called Of Sound Mind, though no record has been released yet) Prospect Hill Revis (Supposedly, Justin Holman went to sing for Aujalyn, but there haven't been any new songs or announcements since the band announced his arrival. Too bad, since I LOVED Revis and miss Justin's voice) The Rising (Michael Johns from American Idol's band) Seventh Day Slumber Signs of Betrayal Soulidium Under the Flood Wake the Light
Okay, that's all I've got right now. Check 'em out, but most importantly, listen to BulletProof Messenger!!!!

Epidemic's eponymous debut (any maybe only?) album is one of my favorites of all time. "Burden Of A Thought" is one of my top 10 favorite songs ever written.

I doubt Chris will come back in this board to change the year, but I felt this was a thread that needed to be revived, and I didn't want to start a new one because some awesome artists had been mentioned already in this thread. I want to mention my latest find and the album that may overtake Deftones - Diamond Eyes for album of the year. The band is called Dead Letter Circus. "Here We Divide" www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT33V9FKPH8"One Step" www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2GAW87Jmw0I don't really know who to compare their sound to. Muse, Karnivool, Tool, Circa Survive, U2, Dredg, Incubus, The Mars Volta, Coldplay, Civil Twilight, Porcupine Tree, Katatonia, and Deftones all come to mind. They're heavier than the mellower bands on this list, and more melodic and accessible than the heavier bands on this list. I think they're EXTREMELY likable but also fairly progressive and interesting to music snobs. This is one of those bands that's a once/two-year find so I felt that I had to share, and they don't have a US single, so I can't make a thread for them. They're huge in Australia. Their debut album debuted at #1 on their album chart.

Karnivool is the closest comparison I'd make. Really enjoying that band. I'm also really enjoying Karnivool's alternative-leaning alter ego, Birds Of Tokyo.
