I finally got to see Chante perform live for the first time in my life (YES!) over the weekend at the "Jazz at the Beach" festival here in Oceanside, CA. And YES! She was amazing. She was the featured vocalist for Norman Brown's "Summer Storm" tour, so she was just one of the main 4 acts on stage. She ended up performing "It's Alright", "This Could Be The Start Of Something Big", "It Ain't Supposed To Be This Way", "Love's Taken Over", and "Chante's Got a Man" w/Norman. Then towards the end of the show, all of the 4 (Chante, Norman, Alex Bugnon *piano*, and Paul Taylor *sax*) performers came on stage and performed a medley of songs, such as Janet Jackson's "That's The Way Love Goes". But yeah, OMG! I ended up bringing a poster I bought previously of Chante during her "Exposed" era to the show, and I held it up when she came on stage....and she noticed it! She laughed, and smiled, and acknowledged it being swung in the air. YAY! After the show, they held an autographing session, so I was sooooooo happy I remembered to bring the booklet for her "Love The Woman" CD. She autographed it (with my name), and then she noticed the poster I was holding, said "Aww...let me sign that too!" and signed it. Then she shook my hand and said "Thank you so much for supporting me!", in which I responded like any other fan, "I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUU CHANTE!!!!!!!!!". I am SO HAPPY to have finally met one of my all-time favorite singers (only ones left of the list: Tamia *who just cancelled her first San Diego, CA show last month*, Adina Howard, and Christina Milian).

Chante Moore: P. Diddy Stole My Hit Song for J.LoAugust 06, 2008 With hits like "Chante's Got A Man," "Straight Up," and "Love's Taken Over," singer Chante Moore -- who has been on the R&B scene for over a decade -- could have had another: "If You Had My Love," as performed by Jennifer Lopez. Moore sat down with NPR's Tony Cox and explained how P. Diddy laid claim to a song she recorded, and had producer Rodney Jerkins write a similar version for Lopez. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc208ExpyMQ

Funny how I love If You Had My Love and never cared for If I Gave You Love yet never noticed the striking similarity between the two. Now I see why Brandy got so pissed at Rodney - he has no shame.

Does JLo have any songs that aren't stolen from another artist??? LOL. I was shocked at hearing about this latest instance. And JLo's second single "Waiting For Tonight" was a cover of a semi-obscure Dance song from about 2 years earlier. Though JLo's version was surprisingly much better than the original.

Does JLo have any songs that aren't stolen from another artist??? Pretty much why I find it so hard to respect the woman. Her success just seems to be built upon dishonesty.

Chante Moore: I Should Have Battled Jennifer Lopez!Posted Aug 27th 2008 10:10AM by Jawn Murray Filed under: BV Buzz By Jawn Murray, BlackVoices.com Sultry R&B singer Chante Moore told NPR's Tony Cox that her biggest professional regret was not going toe-to-toe with Jennifer Lopez back in 1999 when her junior album, 'This Moment Is Mine' came out one week prior to J.Lo's 'On The 6.' The San Francisco-bred singer recalled how when she realized that über-producer Rodney Jerkins (Michael Jackson/Brandy) had basically created the same song for her and J.Lo, she wanted to "sock [him] in the head." The song Moore is referencing is 'If I Gave Love,' a track that was slated to be the follow-up release to Moore 's smash single, 'Chante's Got A Man.' But plans to release 'If I Gave Love' as a second single were compromised when the 'Love's Taken Over' singer's record company realized Jerkin's eerily similar adaptation of the song created for J.Lo was being rolled out as the Latin star's first single. "We should have been aggressive instead of backing off our single," vented Moore. "And we backed off of it because J.Lo had such a machine at the time. We should have just stepped out." According to the 41-year-old singer, Jerkins' similar version of 'If I Gave Love' that was re-titled 'If You Had My Love' for Lopez was created because Sean 'P.Diddy' Combs specifically requested the song. "I heard that it was because Puff Daddy walked in and heard my song and said, 'I want that song.' [Rodney] was like, 'Yeah, it's already taken. We wrote that for Chante.' And [Puffy] was like, 'Yeah, mmm hmm, I want that song.' So Rodney wrote really the same song," the singer explained, before adding: "Hers, I can't even remember. It's so close I can't even sing it right now. Same song!" During that time, Lopez was dating Combs and the two were one of the music industry's hottest couples. Now Moore, who is married to R&B crooner Kenny Lattimore, has released a new album 'Love The Woman' on Peak Records/Concord. The first single from that offering is 'It Aint Supposed To Be This Way,' a song that has a title that accurately describes how Moore was feeling upon discovering what happened to her back in 1999. ***** Flashback Memory: Chante Moore's frustration over what Rodney Jerkins did with 'If I Gave Love' was the very first story I broke at the beginning of my career in June 1999. Moore was a performer during WPGC 95.5 FM's 'Birthday Bash' concert at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and voiced her unhappiness about the matter to me backstage. At the time, I was interning at the station but doing some stringer work (that's writer-speak for being a contributor) for a few nationally renowned entertainment news reporters and gave the story to them. Hearing Moore talk about it almost nine years later brings me full circle to the beginning of my career!

Both songs are typical 1999-2000 Rodney Jerkins productions. Why is she going on about this almost a decade later?

Sad this album has barely sold 20k. I don't understand why labels - even indie ones - don't bother properly promoting their true talent.

Grammy nominee to bring jazz to Temecula08:56 PM PDT on Friday, September 19, 2008 By VANESSA FRANKO The Press-Enterprise Growing up in a musical household, Chante Moore was always trying to sing with her family as a child. "They were very cool but true and honest and told me I couldn't sing," Moore said in a recent telephone interview. But she kept at singing along to gospel records, the only music allowed in the house, and she got better. In 1996, she was nominated for a Grammy thanks to her contribution to the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack. By then, her family had also praised her singing, too. "They gave me props at 16," she said, laughing. Now Moore will appear with Norman Brown, Paul Taylor and Alex Bugnon at Thornton Winery in Temecula on Sunday. Chante Moore released "Love the Woman," and the Grammy- nominated R&B artist performs at Thornton Winery on Sunday. "We share the time so it's a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new," Moore said. This summer, Moore released "Love the Woman," her first solo album in eight years. Both she and husband Kenny Lattimore are solo artists, but teamed up for a project of duets. Then, they were asked to do gospel recording together. In the early 1990s, Moore hit on R&B radio with "Love's Taken Over" and "It's Alright," but her biggest hit was 1999's "Chante's Got a Man." But now, she is back to her solo career in the genre she loves. "I knew I wanted to do a straight ahead jazz album," Moore said. "Love the Woman" has the heart of jazz, but also puts in touches of R&B and urban pop. When she first started singing, Chante Moore didn't have anyone to make musical tracks for her. So she would take the instrumental jazz tracks of guitarist Lee Ritenour or pianist George Duke and do her vocals over them. Duke ended up becoming a mentor to her early in her career and also worked with her on the new album. Her favorite song on the album is a cover of Minnie Riperton's "Give Me Time," the song that played as she walked down the beach at her wedding. "I kind of got choked up while singing it," Moore said. She's excited to sing the songs for a jazz audience because they're not after a hit record, but the music. "It's about emotions. That's what music identifies as -- 'Oh, I feel like that when this comes on.' 'Ooh! It's my favorite song,' all of it is emotion," Moore said.

Her album "Love The Woman" was #89 on last week's Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums.
Meanwhile, her single "It Ain't Supposed To Be This Way" peaked at #90 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and #21 on Hot Adult R&B Airplay.

www.soulmusic.com/chmo20in.htmlBy David Nathan © 2008, Soul Music.com Amazing how time flies. There has been an eight-year gap since Chanté Moore released a solo album, the last being the 2000 set “Exposed.” Since then, the singer who first came to prominence in the early ‘90s as the first artist signed to industry executive, the late Louil Silas’s label has recorded two albums with her husband Kenny Lattimore as well as touring with him. “Love The Woman” is her latest solo venture… DN: Because you haven’t had a record out in a while, did people wonder what happened to you?CM: Some people might think I’ve been on hiatus but I’ve been working with Kenny. We’re very much alike musically and we’ve done two albums together. The second one, (2006’s “Covered/Uncovered”) is my favorite especially having a gospel counterpart as one of the CDs. It’s been a dream for both of us to get into that arena. I don’t have the ‘gospel’ voice so for me it was about figuring how to do gospel! It’s way more challenging than doing R&B – you have to balance performance with authenticity. For sure, I’d love to do more gospel. DN: When did you start working on your new album?CM: We began the process about a year ago… DN: You worked with George Duke on the record and I know he worked with you on your first album, “Precious”…CM: I’ve been wanting to work with George again for a while. I love his sensitivity and production-wide, he lets you be yourself and guides you. I didn’t know where I wanted to go R&B-wise with this album and he would take what was in me and bring it out. George lets me be. I like to sing a song over and over again when I’m recording so I can feel. When I felt like I’d sung all the ways I wanted to, George would say, ‘let’s focus on some areas’. I really like that… DN: Let’s talk about a few of the songs you did with George…CM: I did the Minnie Riperton song, “Give Me Time” and that was the song I got married to! It was playing when I walked down the sand at my wedding to Kenny. It’s so apropros. I find I’m learning about love every day. Love is definitely beautiful but it’s also work. Then, Nancy Wilson’s “Guess Who I Saw Today,” I didn’t hear till I was 20! You see, I wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music growing up. The song has a great story and I loved the journey in the song. I started singing it live about six years ago and I love that it takes you somewhere. It’s such a timeless song. I also did a bonus track with George – “This Could Be The Start Of Something Big.” Kadeem (my first husband) played me Aretha’s version around 1993. It’s a great song and I love her old stuff, the quality of her voice. It was so much fun to sing! Definitely straight ahead jazz… DN: You worked with Raphael Saadiq on one song…CM: Yes, “Special.” The song already written and it was so positive. Women we need to be told we’re special quite often and I like being the voice for that. Raphael and are both church kids and although we’re both from the Bay Area, I didn’t know him growing up. I met him around 1989 at a Tony!Toni!Tone concert… DN: You wrote three songs for the record yourself…CM: Yes, the title track, “Love The Woman” is very sensual. I thought about all the different parts of me that need attention as a woman! “Love Action” was inspired by people always talking about making love. This is song is about showing it! DN: What are your overall thoughts about the CD?CM: Each album reflects where I am in my life, how I’ve grown spiritually, emotionally. Right now, I’m a more mature woman. Having children, having been married before, all of these things have taught me lessons and made me a better person. The album reflects where I am right now... DN: The music industry has changed so much since you first started recording. What are your thoughts about that?CM: It’s a whole new era and it’s so different. I feel like a little like fish out of water. Record companies don’t nurture artists like they did. Louil (Silas) was one of the ones who would do that. Honestly, if I didn’t love the music so much, I probably wouldn’t still be doing this! DN: Finally, what’s it been like recording, performing and touring with your husband, Kenny?CM: It’s been a good time, a time of learning together. We’ve bonded as a couple and it’s been a blessing to be able to be on the road together. We’ve been able to fortify ourselves…and it’s a good thing that we get along! We’ve learned how to deal with one another.

Chanté Moore Promotes Women's Healthby Marcus Williams Special to the AFRO Singer, songwriter and all around beauty Chanté Moore recently visited Washington, D.C., to work up a sweat with the ladies of Sporty Girl Fitness, a nutrition, exercise and fitness organization founded by celebrity trainer Basheerah Ahmad. The health and fitness organization’s motto is “helping you get healthy – in mind, body and spirit,” and Ahmad took that message to the District, along with several other major cities, during the Sporty Girl Fitness Tour Part Two. Thanks to her best friend, Moore has been an active supporter of the program and its fitness tour for several years. “My best friend Sheryl Cobb-Debrose is always involved in something great. I have known her for about 15 years now and a few years ago she asked me to support her by working out so I said sure and we have been working out together ever since,” said Moore. “I discovered that most times you will let yourself down before you will let others down so having that support system is important.” While the physical fitness component definitely played a strong role in Moore’s commitment to joining the organization, she is also connected to the mental and spiritual unity Sporty Girl Fitness promotes. “Our pastor is also a member of Sporty Girl Fitness, and she makes sure we are in church at all times. We call each other and will quickly say, ‘I didn’t see you in church yesterday’,” said Moore. “Also we are around each other all the time. It’s important to surround yourself with people who have like goals and like minds and you build a connection with everyone in your circle.” However, the celebrated vocalist said Sporty Girl Fitness does not emulate a sorority. “Sororities are a little more ‘clique-ish’ than this. It’s not about saying, ‘You are like me so that’s why I’m cool with you,’ it’s more about working with everyone from all walks of life to better yourselves together,” said Moore. “It’s takes a village to do everything not just raise a child. It should be a team effort with everything you do in life and this organization believes in that.” The ladies of Sporty Girl Fitness are currently touring the country, promoting sisterhood between women of all ages and backgrounds. According to Moore, the program’s goal is to “bring you together…keep the circle strong and growing.” When Moore isn’t exercising or having group discussions with ladies around the country, she’s in the studio working on her gospel debut Changed and her next R&B release, which is still untitled. “ Changed is not just lifting God up, that’s not me, but I’m going to talk about how God is a part of us all and how we should lift him up in our day-to-day lives. Each day it’s about using those experiences that make me stronger,” said Moore. “The other album is pretty fun. I haven’t titled it yet; it’s just more of me – I might just call it ‘ Moore of Me.’” For more about Sporty Girl Fitness DC visit www.sportygirlfitnesstourdc.com/. I hate when old threads are resurrected and combined. lol. Nothing wrong with a new thread for a new era.
My roommate is a huge fan of hers, glad to see she's working on 2 projects.
