Paula working with Janet Jackson helped create that whole dance-team-on-stage-with-performer genre in the 80's, she's not given enough credit for that- but it does look like she has not progressed much since then because it was really a dated sort of performance. It just seems strange though that she kept saying a year or so ago how she was in constant "back pain"- that is was "crippling" and had been for 10 years and yet that really didn't seem to be the case with her on stage the other night.

Paula has never been known for her vocals. She's a dancer first and foremost. People didn't expect stellar vocals from her in the 80's, and they sure as hell don't expect it now. Paula has never shoved her singing career in contestants' faces as if she is a better singer. I don't really see the issue with her lip-syncing. It was supposed to be a fun performance, not a display of her vocal talents. Its just very ironic that the judge of a SINGING contest got on stage and pretended to sing. She should be judging a dancing contest since that is her forte. She critiques the vocals of people who can actually sing and yet gets on the same show and lip synchs. Seriously, that's HILARIOUS. For credibility purposes I would have at least attempted to open my mouth even if it was just the intro. but it does look like she has not progressed much since then because it was really a dated sort of performance. Yea that performance looked 20 years old. She did a good job with it but its the same thing she was doing in her prime.

They actually never claimed that she sang it... they just said "she performed" and it was "a performance".

I take it that her single is dead already? In order to call it dead, it had to have actually had life. ;) She was supposed to appear on some shows to promote it and possibly perform earlier in the month, but all those appearances were canceled at the last minute.

I'm kind of excited for a new album from her. A lot of her older stuff is kickass and I love her last two singles. They played "I'm Just Here for the Music" at my birthday party a few weeks ago and I almost flipped my shit, I was so happy. Haha.

She shouldn't even bother releasing an actual album. It will do absolutely nothing. She should keep releasing one off singles to the clubs and maybe some remix packages to iTunes.

Wouldn't say over but pretty sure it's going to get a big hit. She was getting more bearable. Won't be watching this season.

Paula gave AI it's ratings, but not in a good way. She was by far the worst 'judge'. She wasn't even a judge, she was merely a character......on drugs.

I'm disappointed she never came out with a new album... She undoubtedly has a few shelved tracks she could put out. Back in 1997, she started writing and recording songs for a new album that never came to fruition. In fact, that's where "Spinning Around" by Kylie Minogue came from; it was originally intended to be Paula's comeback single.

Maybe she's saving it for when she premieres on X-Factor? (If that rumor is true)

Maybe she's saving it for when she premieres on X-Factor? (If that rumor is true) I haven't heard that one. Regardless, I don't think she'd be able to have much success with an album. These one off singles she did on the last two seasons of Idol are probably her best bet. Without the show, though, they wouldn't have done anything, so if she wants to put music out, she should at least wait until she's in the greater public eye again.

Ms. Paula is unlikely to find much of an audience with an album. Even with the Idol boost, the sales were not high and radio passed on the tracks (as expected).
Probably would be a fun album, though (long as it's just Paula).

When she performed on Divas Live, I loved the slightly updated sounding versions of her 80's hits.
I think she should do modern remakes of her big hits, and then put an additional 4 or 5 new tracks on the album and go that route. It could work for her. And actually wasn't this the type of album she was talking about doing a couple years ago?
Maybe she'll finally do it when she starts on X-Factor.

^Yeah, that was the rumor, that she was going to do five or so updates of older tracks, and then 5 or 6 new tracks. Can she not do an album of all-new tracks, though? The glory days of 1989-1992 are long gone.

Well she could although like you said, she's unlikely to find an audience with a new album. Doing some remakes of older tracks would be maybe the only way to get her more casual or nostalgic fans to actually buy the album.
She just waited waaaaay too long for a comeback to be able to do a whole new album with any sort of success. I would personally love a whole new album but at this point I'll take anything she puts out.

I've said this before in this topic, but updates from old hits I've always considered useless. They're always gonna be compared to the original and almost always pale in comparison. Doesn't sell, unless it's some good old song that never got the credit it deserved.
But now that the Dance Pop sound is re-emerging she should release an all new album if anything. Lady GaGa etc. Isn't this common sense?

Still milking those 6 numbers 1's. :)
Her "Dream Medley" came out on iTunes yesterday. Up to #137 on pop iTunes. She "performed" it on Dancing with the Stars. It was actually pretty cool.
