Dawn looks great for 40! She's never looked bad anyways.
That DVD cover is atrocious. Cancel the DVD release and have the reunion as a live DVD instead!

They have a show here in Atlanta this Saturday. I'd love to see them, but I don't feel like spending the $60.

En Vogue marks 20 years with Essence Fest concertBy Chevel Johnson, Associated Press Writer – Mon Jul 6, 4:40 am ET NEW ORLEANS – En Vogue marked their 20th anniversary as one of music's most successful female groups with a reunion show that electrified the crowd at the Essence Music Festival. Sunday night's performance featured all the group's original members — Cindy Herron-Bragg, Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones — soaking up an enthusiastic audience that sang along and danced in the aisles. "It was amazing," Herron-Bragg said of the audience reaction and participation. "I'm just glad we were able to connect with them." "We're just excited to be together again," Robinson said. "It's like we never missed a beat. It feels normal again." Known for their hits "Free Your Mind," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It) and "Don't Let Go," the group opened the final night of the festival. They performed a medley of tunes by female artists who inspired them, including Tina Turner, Anita Ward and Aretha Franklin. Because of time constraints, however, they were unable to sing some fan favorites such as "Giving Him Something" and "Whatta Man" or close the show with "Hold On" and its signature a capella intro of "Who's Loving You," one of their hits that paid tribute to Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. "He's the reason why we stand here together," Ellis said of Jackson, who died June 25. "He was the most phenomenal entertainer ever." Fans were impressed and grateful to see the group back in form. "We got here just in time to see them and we're so happy to see them back on stage," said Stephanie Griffin, of Sacramento, Calif. "When they split up it was heartbreaking and we always hoped they would get back together." Yolanda Escobar of San Francisco said the group seemed to still have that magic that launched them back in the '90s. "It was great and they looked good," she said. Producers Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy created En Vogue, which debuted in 1990. Their perfect harmonies and sexy personas catapulted them into the industry's stratosphere, setting a standard for later groups, like Destiny's Child, and sparking comparisons to previous girl groups like The Emotions and The Supremes. "We come from a time when 'singing' was the norm," Herron-Bragg said. "I think that's one of the things that continues to draw fans to us." The group, which sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, has appeared in original form a couple of times since 2007. But they're hoping for a larger comeback later this year with a new album. Ellis said they're also considering a move into reality TV. "It's just another venue to get our music out there," Robinson said. "The industry has changed. It's not just about getting a record deal anymore. It's about exposure." "Twenty years in the business is a long time and we've had a lot of fun in the process, but there's also been some ups and downs and we'd like to share some of that," Ellis said.

After 20 years of being a true fanboy for these women, enduring 5 albums (only 2 of which include all 4 original divas), several line-up changes, false starts at a true comeback, and no true new music in the last 5 years, I finally got the chance to see En Vogue LIVE on Sunday night. They performed at Club Nokia downtown and ripped the place to shreds.
Rhona (who was a temporary member for 5 years) was the opening act. She sang 3 songs from her upcoming project, The Anticipation of R&B - a ballad and 2 up-tempos. She looked great and her voice is beautiful! I thought it was nice of EV to let her have a moment to shine.
Following Rhona was the co-headliner of the show: Ginuwine. My first time seeing him live and I must say that the man is a true showman! Although he doesn't dance as hard as he used to and he had to cut a couple of his notes short, you can tell he put his heart and soul into his performance and had all the ladies (esp. the white girls) falling out on the floor in front of the stage (and he only had to open his shirt, not take it off). His set list was:
Intro (#1 Fan/None of Ur Friend's Business/Wait a Minute) Same Ol' G Stingy Trouble Do You Love Ginuwine? (Interlude) I'll Do Anything/You Owe Me/I Need a Girl (backup singers medley) / (costume change) So Anxious Differences Hell Yeah Freek 'N You (Jodeci cover) In Those Jeans Last Chance MJ Tribute (Don't Stop Till You Get Enough) *Ginuwine did his best MJ imitation to the music* Pony (Encore)
Finally came out the 4 original Funky Divas! All 4 of them looked great to be over 40 and had gotten thick as hell! Some folks were complaining about their wardrobe since they didn't match up that well but in the video posted, Dawn explains the reason why. As for their voices, they truly sound just as good as, if not better than, they did 20 years ago! Each girl got a chance to put her vocal chords to use solo (Terry got the standing O, however, for the intro to Hold On) and their harmonies were flawless! Amazing how these songs are so old yet still sounded so fresh and had the entire club rocking. It also made you anxious for them to fully reunite by recording a new album so they will have some real fresh material to perform. Aside from Dre's bootleg recording, there were actual photographers and videographers taping the show at the front and behind the stage so I'm hoping that means their reality show is coming to fruition soon. As for their set list:
Does Anybody Hear Me? (Intro) Love Don't Love You Can't Come Back My Lovin' Lies Ol' Skool Medley (11 songs)* Giving Him Something He Can Feel Whatta Man (Cindy sang Salt-n-Pepa's verses) Don't Mess With My Man Free Your Mind Don't Let Go Hold On
*The medley consisted of: Ain't No Mountain, Got to Be Real, Bad Girls, Ring My Bell, Best of My Love, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Respect, Lady Marmalade, Tell Me Something Good, In My House, Proud Mary.
Overall, Rhona's got potential, Ginuwine's a great showman, and regardless of whether the songs were old or new, En Vogue were phenomenal and a definite MUST-SEE at least once in your life. TRUE talent and REAL music like this are so rare these days that you will definitely appreciate their live act that much more. Plus, we all know it's only a matter of time before Dawn's ego swells so jump on this if you get the chance!

The Ev set list is less is really missing some great material. They put too much emphasis on that damn old schoool medly when they are leaving out some fan favs of their own material. And most of the songs in the old school medley are tacky when they should just focus on songs from old girl groups like Pointer Sisters, Klymaxx, Jones Girls, etc.
Where is Whatever, too gone too long, Give it up, turn it loose, You dont have to worry, Dont Go,
Why are they doing "Dont mess with my man"? Why not "dance tonight" since that was actually a hit for Lucy Pearl? And what about Terry's solo hit "wherever you are" which was a moderate hit for her.

Some of their renditions were amazing but the medley was too long for my liking and I do wish they had included more of their own songs as well. From what I've been told, Terry has sung her song at previous shows.
