They used Billboard this week after airing the corresponding Cashbox chart last year. It's actually the 3rd time in 4 years for January 14, 1984, if you count the AT40 episode from this week that aired in 2009 (and, of course, was aired a couple weeks ago by Premiere).

^ Back to Cashbox, I'm assuming?
Checked on the Greg Lake song cause I don't remember seeing that listed on any AT40 chart - nope, that one didn't hit the 40.
Also might want to fix up Juice there. ;)

And thanks for the info on Greg Lake; I tried looking on Wikipedia for the single's Billboard peak, but there was nothing listed for it.

The Cashbox website has been down; I suspect that's why they used Billboard last week.
This week's show featured at least two factual mistakes (don't they all, though?). Alan said that "I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World" was Ronnie Milsap's biggest hit. I don't think so. And later Nina stated that "Sweet Dreams" moved from #40 to #19. In fact, it was #30 last week.

^ What's funny about this chart is, on Billboard that week, "Two Hearts" made that exact same chart move that Taylor Dayne does here.
Interesting that she snuck in for a week at #1.

Yeah, it feels like this chart had a little more activity than normal for this time. Eight songs shifted at least 10 positions within the top 40, and all six debuts made moves of at least 12 spots from below the top 40. Occasionally, the VJs will acknowledge it, like this week when Martha Quinn (I think?) noted Breathe moved "up 22 spots" to #38.
The weirdest move from this chart belonged to "It's No Secret." Kylie moved up an impressive 32 spots from #71 that week, but even stranger, the song moved down 14 spots the week before. That's quite a rebound.

This week they did 1980. Once again, Cashbox was used for this episode. Considering the #1 this week, I really wish they went back to Billboard. 2/9/1980 -- 40 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Refugee* -- 39 John Stewart - Lost Her in the Sun -- 38 Linda Ronstadt - How Do I Make You -- 37 Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall -- 36 Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker 23 35 Jefferson Starship - Jane 26 34 The O'Jays - Forever Mine -- 33 Toto - 99 38 32 Barry Manilow - When I Wanted You 35 31 Led Zeppelin - Fool in the Rain 24 30 Hall & Oates - Wait for Me 40 29 Rupert Holmes - Him 39 28 Shalamar - The Second Time Around 21 27 Foghat - Third Time Lucky 22 26 Rufus & Chaka Khan - Do You Love What You Feel 19 25 KC & the Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go 31 24 Anne Murray - Daydream Believer 36 23 Andy Gibb - Desire 33 22 Neil Diamond - September Morn 14 21 Cliff Richard - We Don't Talk Anymore 17 20 Isaac Hayes - Don't Let Go 28 19 The Spinners - Working My Way Back to You 32 18 Donna Summer - On the Radio 15 17 Kool & the Gang - Ladies' Night 25 16 Dirt Band - An American Dream 10 15 The Eagles - The Long Run 16 14 Steve Forbert - Romeo's Tune 06 13 Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Pina Colada Song) 12 12 Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover 13 11 Dionne Warwick - Deja Vu 18 10 Dan Fogelberg - Longer 11 09 Teri Desario featuring KC - Yes, I'm Ready 09 08 Kenny Loggins - This Is It 07 07 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Don't Do Me Like That 08 06 Fleetwood Mac - Sara 02 05 Michael Jackson - Rock with You 01 04 Captain & Tennille - Do That to Me One More Time 05 03 Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love 04 02 Smokey Robinson - Cruisin' 03 01 Kenny Rogers - Coward of the County *Was actually #41. "Why Me" by Styx was #19 and everything between 41 and 20 was moved up accordingly. Looks like this same chart could be used again this week.

^ True, but I'm betting this time they leave "Why Me" in the countdown, so everything will be in its proper place this time around.

As was pointed out above, this chart aired two years ago. I'm guessing this is probably the earliest they'll go in the decade so they can avoid playing too many 70s songs in a show.
I listened to the show last night, and prior to playing "Deja Vu," Nina Blackwood made a brief acknowledgement of the passing of Whitney Houston (Warwick was her cousin). I don't know how often they re-record segments after the show first airs on Friday night, but this has to be the most obvious instance of such an event occurring.

Heads-up:
Word is that this week's Big 80 countdown has the exact same chart as this weekend's American Top 40: The 80s. So...might as well go find a station playing Casey for this weekend. ;)

Another Billboard countdown, which meant, as you noted above we got the same countdowns on SXM and Premiere.
I don't usually like to go after the VJs for their factual screw-ups (or more accurately, whoever writes the scripts for the VJs to read), but one caught my ear this week. In the open, as Alan Hunter noted that 1988, like 2012, featured presidential primaries contested throughout the country, he said that only weeks later the Iran-Contra scandal would explode into the headlines. Of course, that scandal was raging on in 1986 and 1987, and probably had receded off the front pages more or less in 1988.

Seems odd that they'd only do a Top 30 for the 90s countdown.

Using the Hot 100 for a 90s countdown is not a good choice IMO. Reason for that being Billboard's rules that a single actually had to be physically released as such to qualify for the chart until late in the decade (late 1998 IIRC), and increasingly record companies refused to do that. As a result, some of the biggest hits of the time, like "Don't Speak", "Killing Me Softly", and "Mr. Jones", just to name a few, helped sell millions of albums but weren't released as singles and so didn't make the Hot 100 (or if they did it was in no way relative to their overall popularity and airplay). That wasn't too bad a problem in 1993, but it got much worse over the next five years.

How much you willing to bet that they don't care about that, and are using the Hot 100 purely because it's conveniently available? Whereas using any other chart requires actual work, and God forbid we have that...

How much you willing to bet that they don't care about that, and are using the Hot 100 purely because it's conveniently available? Whereas using any other chart requires actual work, and God forbid we have that... If rights issues and such dictate that they use Billboard, they could play songs off the top 40 airplay monitors. American Top 40 counted that down for several years (until it was cancelled in 1994-95) after determining that the Hot 100 was no longer cutting it. That made for a countdown which better reflected what was actually being played and the largest segment of the audience were listening to. Better yet would be the Radio & Records charts, if possible, since that's what most people were actually hearing in the countdown shows of the time, as hosted by Casey Kasem or Rick Dees.
