I read through the articles about how excited he was to be on Atlantic to splitting ways with them. Obviously, their efforts to expose him to a larger audience didn't work.

Hmm. Hopefully wherever he moves next gets him some more exposure...because after this last album, I'll be really disappointed if he falls off the map.

I've liked a few songs from Marc and really like his voice but that song about isn't very good at all. I can see why it apparently wasn't released.
I thought Marc was a jam band artist? Obviously, Atlantic tried to veer him into the HotAC market and it didn't work.

Marc Broussard On Mountain StageBayou soul singer Marc Broussard makes his first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Cultural Center Theater in Charleston, W.V. Broussard was raised by a musical family in and around Lafayette, La., and still lives on the street where he grew up. His father, Ted Broussard, has been the guitarist for the Cajun band The Boogie Kings, and still occasionally appears on stage with his son when they play nearby. Broussard's bayou roots permeate his powerful voice, as does the soul, funk and R&B with which he grew up. Here, he's joined onstage by his own band, which includes Al Gamble on the Hammond organ, Chad Gilmore on drums and Gibb Droll on lead guitar. Louisiana soul man Marc Broussard ready to experiment on upcoming album Mario Tarradell, The Dallas Morning News Published: 31 October 2012 05:28 PM Louisiana soul man Marc Broussard gets right to the point. There are changes afoot for the singer-songwriter from Carencro since our last conversation during the summer of 2011. After two albums with Atlantic Records, 2008’s Keep Coming Back and 2011’s Marc Broussard, he has returned to Vanguard Records, the label that released his 2007 disc, S.O.S.: Save Our Soul. “I’m really excited about working with them again,” he said from his home. “They did a bang-up job on S.O.S.” The working title of the album, which should be released in April, is A Life Worth Living, which is also the title of a song that he wrote about his late grandmother. He calls the upcoming record “a little more adult and with a little more heart” than the last two CDs. He tells me that it will have more of a Ray LaMontagne sound, and his full band stage show will take on a Black Crowes vibe. “It will be a more acoustically driven record, more than likely. That is the plan, but the producer might have a different idea in mind. My plan is to have a very organic sounding record. I have tons of material that has been written. I have been writing over the course of the last year and have been writing more intensely in the last couple of months.” Broussard’s Friday night gig at the Winspear Opera House is part of a 16-date run through Texas and California. It will be a stripped-down performance, he says, not a big rock ’n’ roll experience. With him will be guitarist, bassist and keyboardist Josh Moore as well as percussionist Chad Gilmore, who has played with Broussard for about a decade. Folk singer-songwriter Gabriel Kelley will open the show. “It is a more intimate thing,” he said. “We are going to play a lot of new material. You will see a different me. I have a pretty substantial beard at this point. I love the new stuff. I think it’s very honest. I think my fans will respond well to the music. I’ve played some of the new material this year, and the fans have been really receptive to the new material. I will see what works and what doesn’t. There will be some storytelling, a joke here or there. I might fire up the old iPod and do a dance for the audience.” Expect to hear “Lucky” and “Let Me Do It Over,” two gems from the criminally underrated Marc Broussard album. Otherwise, do not despair, Broussard isn’t relinquishing his soulful influences. His voice is a robust instrument with a penchant for old-school R&B, but he is experimenting with this signature sound. “That’s never going to change. Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye have been such heavy influences on me. I will never able to separate myself from that. Nor would I want to. I am also heavily influenced by James Taylor. He is one of the most amazing artists to ever exist in American music. So it is a shift. It’s not a huge shift, but it is a shift. Don’t worry, though. I have no plans to start a death-metal band anytime soon.”

Marc Broussard: Comes Around to VanguardDate Signed: September 2012 Label: Vanguard RecordsWhen a label makes a good impression on an artist, it can pay large future dividends. Louisiana-based singer-songwriter Marc Broussard witnessed that firsthand after working with Vanguard Records briefly before being snapped up by Atlantic Records. “Years ago, between my Island Def Jam contract and my deal with Atlantic, I signed a one-off deal with Vanguard for my record S.O.S.: Save Our Soul,” the artist explains. “I found that experience to be highly enjoyable. Unfortunately for Vanguard, Atlantic stepped in and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I was a little too young and näive to understand the implications of what I was embarking on.” When Broussard’s deal with Atlantic came to an end, he decided to lookup Vanguard and see if they’d like to work together once more. “It was a natural fit for me to re-approach those guys,” he recalls. “I knew that it had been a great relationship during S.O.S. and they seemed eager to work with me again.” Once he was released from Atlantic earlier in the year, Broussard and his team reached out to Vanguard. A deal was reached in the fall. One of the significant differences that Broussard notes about his experience with Vanguard is that he feels more supported than with past labels. “Recently I played three shows in the L.A. area,” the singer says. “Over the course of those shows, the entire Vanguard West Coast staff was able to see me perform. That’s not something you can say about every label. It’s a much more focused staff. They don’t have 40 releases in a given quarter. We’ll be able to maximize the effort of a smaller group of people because it’s such a focused operation.” A Life Worth Living (ALWL) is planned for release sometime in the spring. It will be preceded by an EP that includes a number of Louisiana-centric songs. Singer/songwriter Marc Broussard brings soul to BirchmereTalented musician talks Louisiana, life and live recordings By Will C. Franklin Staff Writer Self proclaimed ‘Bayou Soul’ singer Marc Broussard, the proud son of Carencro, La., has released five studio albums and three EPs. There are, however, many bootleg recordings of his live shows on the Internet. When the opportunity presented itself for Broussard to have an actual live record, he couldn’t pass it up – especially when that live show was being filmed for a DVD release. “Full Sail University down in Orlando hired us for an event,” Broussard said. “They offered to film it and partnered with us on releasing it. I just couldn’t pass it up.” Out on tour now promoting the album and the DVD, Broussard will be making a stop on Oct. 31, at the Birchmere in Alexandria. Broussard’s soulful sound and heartfelt lyrics have attracted legions of fans across the country. His first hit, “The Wanderer,” off his first album, “Momentary Setback,” was quickly followed by fan favorites “Home” and “Where You Are,” off the “Carencro” album. Even after hundreds of live performances, Broussard said it was a little nerve wracking when he performed at Full Sail University. “Yeah, I wasn’t actually sure what was going to happen,” Broussard said. “I was convinced that we would release the footage at some point, but I didn’t realize that we would release the audio first and then the footage. This thing really has had a life of its own, if you will. I’ve really been enjoying watching it all come together.” In the past, Broussard has worked with label Vanguard to release his “SOS: Save Our Souls” album. In 2012, he signed a new deal with the label and is set to release a new album early next year. Broussard said that album will sound a bit different from his usual work. “That album is finished,” Broussard said. “It’s probably the biggest departure of any of the albums that I’ve put out in the past. There was no pressure on me in the studio to feel like I needed to accomplish something specific. I was able to have the freedom in this project to record a record that I wanted to record. That’s exactly what happened, man. We’re really just excited as all get-out about putting this record out. It’s supposed to come, I think, in January. After this live record and live DVD and a new record coming, it’s been kind of a banner year for me as far as releasing music.” Broussard has quite the musical lineage. His father, Ted, was a guitarist for The Boogie Kings and is a member of the Louisiana Hall of Fame. Broussard said growing up he didn’t really have a choice when it came to listening to music. “My father’s influence was pretty heavy in those younger years,” Broussard said. “Before I had access to my own choice of music, I was kind of limited to what he was listening to and that was always going to be something pretty heavy by way of jazz or … what have you. I think that translated into continuing to have an influence on me as a writer. Typically, I tried to shoot for things that are a little more complicated musically while keeping the melodies and vocals as fairly simple as possible.” For his part, Broussard is always on the go. He performs all over the country and overseas as well. In 2007, he performed for troops in the Middle East as part of the Entertain our Troops tour. For the devoted husband and loving father of four, being away from home for so long is difficult. “My home is like my Fortress of Solitude, man,” Broussard said. “When I need to recharge, I gotta come and spend some time here. It’s only gotten more and more difficult to leave as I’ve gotten older. My youngest daughter is 2 now and is already starting to tell me, ‘Don’t go to work, Daddy. Don’t go to work.’ It’s difficult, man, but I’ve become kind of desensitized, if you will, to the emotions that are going to run high when I’m about to leave town. I just try to push the emotions out of it and realize there are things that are going to be necessary for me to do that aren’t always going to bring joy to my family or myself. It is what it is, but it’s a hell of a lot better than digging ditches, so go ahead and hop on that plane one more time and get it done.” After the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Broussard was determined to help his fellow Louisianans. He founded the Momentary Setback Fund, which helps victims of Katrina as well as Hurricane Rita, which hit the Gulf Coast less than a month after Katrina. He also released an album, “Bootleg to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina,” in 2005, with all proceeds going to Katrina relief. Still, Broussard feels he should do more. “I often beat myself up for not doing enough,” Broussard said. “I’ve been given this opportunity to do what I do for a living, which affords me an ample amount of extra time – I can find myself at home for stretches of weeks. If I don’t use that time wisely and contribute to help my community, then I’m not doing my duty as a citizen. I think it’s extremely important to get involved in my community as well as the community at large.” At the end of the day, Broussard said he hopes when people listen to his music they relax, smile and know they can come back for more. “I want my music to be the music that they go to whenever they’re feeling good, whenever they’re feeling bad or whenever they feel like just listening to some music,” Broussard said. “I want to be a kind of musical security blanket that you can always kind of rely on.”

Marc's friend Ray Boudreaux sang "Home" on The Voice recently.
Additionally, while making some (Christina Aguilera) jokes & showing support for Ray, Marc got a severe stream of negative backlash last night on Twitter:

See Marc Broussard 'Shine' in this video premiereBrian Mansfield, Special for USA TODAY 9:27 a.m. EDT June 25, 2014 If you want a feel for the heat of a summer in the South, listen to Marc Broussard's Shine. "Down here it gets hot 'round the month of June," the soulful Louisiana singer-songwriter begins in this acoustic performance, premiering at USA TODAY. And in his mind, he's back at a buddy's fishing camp on the Atchafalaya River, resting in a hammock. "It's a special place," he says. "There's no electricity. You've got to get there by boat. It's a surreal experience that has made an indelible mark on my heart. I decided to try to get into the spirit of that fishing camp." The studio version of Shine will appear on Broussard's new album, A Life Worth Living, out July 29. "It's perfectly suited to being on this record," Broussard says. "I think it's a standout track on the record in a lot of ways. "It's the only song about home, and it's the most hopeful song on the record. Everything else has a tinge of darkness to it, but this song has none of that. In fact, it's the opposite." A Life Worth Living is Broussard's return Vanguard Records, the label that released his S.O.S.: Save Our Souls covers album in 2007. He says the change in labels also brought a change in his style of recording. "I went from a six-figure budget on my previous records to a pretty minuscule budget on this one," he says. "I have a new formula now: As the budget increases, creativity decreases. I think I just made the best record of my career."

Video Premiere: Marc Broussard, “Weight Of The World” (Acoustic)Written by Evan Schlansky July 14th, 2014 at 10:49 am The Artist: Soulful Southern songwriter Marc Broussard The Song: “Weight Of The World,” from the album A Life Worth Living, out July 29 on Vanguard. Songwriter Says: “This song is all about keeping love simple. Keeping it all between two people and not caring about what the world says. My wife and I ran away to get married and had very few witnesses, most of whom were almost complete strangers. It didn’t matter that our friends and family missed our altar moment because it wasn’t about them.”

See It First! Marc Broussard Premieres Touching Video for 'A Life Worth Living'By Wendy Geller July 9, 2014 11:19 AM It’s been a decade since soulful Southern singer Marc Broussard released his critically acclaimed major-label debut, Carencro, named after the Louisiana town where he was born and raised. Now he’s on his sixth studio album, A Life Worth Living, which will be released July 29 and celebrates the same themes of home and community which marked the beginnings of his recording career. Yahoo Music is pleased to premiere the video for the title track, a beautiful moving song about Broussard’s grandmother, who passed away just as Hurricane Isaac was bearing down on the gulf coast of Louisiana. “The lion’s share of the material on this record is extremely personal.” Broussard says. “There are decades of stories behind a single line in any of these songs. Whether it’s because I’m older and a little more perceptive, or whether it was just the right time, I find myself with a set of songs that really means the world to me,” In that way alone, it’s vastly different than anything I’ve done before." Broussard is currently on the road playing select dates throughout the U.S. VIDEO PREMIERE: music.yahoo.com/video/life-worth-living-182605765.html
