Ryan mentioned that "Pimpin' All Over The World" was the week's biggest dropper. When was the last time any Top 40 host mentioned that? Was that back in the Shadoe Stevens days?

I do remember on AT20 (AC version) when Casey said that "Landslide" was the biggest drop from #1 since "Ships" by Barry Manilow. Or maybe it was "The Lord's Prayer" by Sister Janet Mead.

FYI: the last song to skyrocket to #1 by making a 7-point leap was "Dreamlover" by Mariah Carey back in 1993. I believe that "This Used To Be My Playground" and "I Will Always Love You" also made some pretty hefty leaps to #1 as well.

FYI: the last song to skyrocket to #1 by making a 7-point leap was "Dreamlover" by Mariah Carey back in 1993. I believe that "This Used To Be My Playground" and "I Will Always Love You" also made some pretty hefty leaps to #1 as well.

How long was dreamlover #1 on at top 40, 9 weeks right, am not too sure.

Actually, "Ships" was the song that had taken the last fall from 1 to 9.  But Casey also mentioned "The Lord's Prayer" by Sister Janet Mead, since "Landslide" had tied the record for biggest fall from the top ever on the AC chart.  Several songs came very close.  I believe both "One Moment In Time" by Whitney Houston and "This Time I Know It's For Real" by Donna Summer fell from #1 to #8.  But that was back in the late '88-early '89 era, when there was a rapid turnover rate of the number one position.  Back then, it was amazing for a song to spend more than a single week at the top.  How I miss those days...

BTW, for those who are interested, there's a tie for the biggest fall from #1 on AT40 and, oddly enough, it happened on back-to-back weeks, in late October, 1974. "Nothing From Nothing" by Billy Preston spent a week at #1, then fell to #15 as he was displaced by "Then Came You" by Dionne Warwicke & The Spinners. The next week, that song also fell to #15. Is that weird or what?

The biggest fall from #1 on the R&R Pop chart is the 1-11 drop of "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the Bangles in January, 1987. And that wasn't even after a two-week break.

Yes, indeed, "Dreamlover" spent nine weeks at #1. At the time, that was the record for the longest stay at #1 on the R&R charts. The former record, which stood for just over ten years, was "Every Breath You Take" by the Police, which was at the top for eight weeks. Both songs were by far the top song of their respective years.
