I remember during her debut and Secrets, she was considered an AC core artist even though she was also an Urban/Urban AC/Rhythmic/Pop core artist. Damn she had all grounds covered back in the day LOL. Anyway, she even won the AMA for "Best New Adult Contemporary Artist" in 1994.
Her golds are still all over AC. "Un-Break My Heart," "Breathe Again," "You Mean the World To Me," etc.
So I'll ask if you guys think she can still go Top 10 at AC if she puts out a song that WOULD qualify. Or is she the wrong image now since she tried to go hip-hop?

Well, it depends on whether she can ever get her act together! She would first need a big Pop hit before AC would even give her a chance, I think, since she's not a core AC artist.

"He Wasn't Man Enough" was a big pop hit, but the song wasn't too appropriate for AC.
I liked "Spanish Guitar" and thought it sounded good on AC. The song charted, but didn't go top 10.

It's possible to get her back to AC if she releases a song that sounds like an AC track. However, she releases this kind of song, then be prepared that CHR/Rhythmic and Urban may ignore the song... I mean, we have Heather Headley's "I Wish I Wasn't" which is possible to crossover to AC, but of course not doing as well in Urban... you also have Tamia's "Officially Missing You"... so yeah, those types of tracks...

If Mariah Carey could score a top 15 AC hit (Through The Rain) recently despite her "makeover" in the last 4 years, then certainly Toni Braxton can make it back onto the charts. She just needs to concentrate on her strongpoints on AC - love power ballads.

If she recorded another Diane Warren ballad, AC would likely play Toni Braxton. Together they've had great success ("Un-break My Heart") and moderate success ("Spanish Guitar").

Correction Josh, "TTR" peaked at #16 on R&R AC for 2 weeks I still don't understand how this wasn't bigger here. It fits the format perfectly. Then, Whitney Houston made #10 earlier this year with "Try It On My Own," even with the chrous saying "Keep it real" lol. I guess thats a sign that AC will play songs from former core artists that have since strayed from the format. On Toni abum The Heat, there was a song called "I'm Still Breathing" which I thought would have been a big AC hit if it were released. Then again, I would have thought the same thng about "Spanish Guitar." I really, really hope Toni gets it together again.

And BTW, Adam, Spanish Guitar did quite well on AC.
It peaked at #22(for 4 weeks!) & stayed on the AC chart for 14 weeks.... :)

From Toni I like upbeat (the first singles in 2000 and 2002) better than quiet: "Un-break My Heart," "Breathe Again," and "Love Should've Brought You Home." I've heard at least part of "You're Makin' Me High" but I don't know it. I did like the music to "Part 2" (Mathod Man and Redman) which sampled it. It was posted that Toni would go more adult. Even her last ballad hit ("Just Be A Man About It") wasn't for Adult Contemporary.

I think AC would take Toni back with open arms. She just hasn't released an AC friendly song in ages.

I'm sure the two AC stations here will play Toni, and one leaning Hot AC. Almost each night I hear Toni's "Un Break My Heart," "Another Sad Love Song," and "Breathe Again." If she makes a fantastic power ballad, I'm sure it'll get spins.

I hear those three songs on A/C radio all the time, yet her best song IMO, "You Mean The World To Me" I never hear, and it was the second most popular A/C song of 1994.
