A #1 hit on the hot 100.
This is a good song, and she's a good vocalist, but as i say time and time again, it simply cannot compare with Eternals original. Easther Bennets vocals are so much more emotive and powerful. Also, the lyric changes in Monica's were absolutely horrible. From "Gonna love you till the end of time" to "I'm checkin' for you boy you're right on time"? UGH! Kinda kills the emotional aspect of the song for me.
Still, a decent effort, even if Eternal deserved the bigger hit. (In the UK they got it, this was #4 and Monica's missed top 40, presumably cos it came so soon after the original).

This song is alright, not the best from Monica. I tend to like her more urban/urban AC leaning songs, rather than her pop sounding stuff.
I still have yet to hear Eternal's version, I'll put that on my must download list.

I liked the song a lot when it is out, although I do not listen to it much now. Very touching and moving and her vocals are great on it!

The vocals on Eternal's version are very flat. You reserve the right to disagree about which version is better, but that comment is just insane....

You reserve the right to disagree about which version is better, but that comment is just insane.... I think finding Mandy Moore to be the best artist out there is insane, but people have the right to their own opinion.

That's a matter of opinion (Not that I genuinely think she is, i just like her. Anyway *Cough* Mariah Carey *Cough* ) Saying Eternals vocals are flat IS insane, because it's clear that they're not. Easther Bennet is a remarkable vocalist. Download 'Stay' ''Just a step from heaven' and 'I wanna be the only one' if ye don't believe me.

Let's not bring up the most successful R&B female of all time... who got there without releasing cover albums.
Anyway, "Stay" is a decent song [another cover] vocally, but I think "Angel Of Mine" is flat. No use arguing. That's my opinion.

But whether a singer is flat (IE failing to hit notes) is NOT an opinion! It's a fact, it's either true or false. And it's fairly safe to say that in the case of Easther Bennet, a trained gospel singer, it's false. She hit all the notes in this song IE it's not flat....
I'm gonna ignore the little Mandy jibe cos i don't want this to turn into THAT kind of argument....

Just downloaded and listened to the song. I fail to see any great differences between this one and the Monica version, even the vocals sound similar to me. Neither one is really better than the other IMO.
As said earlier, this is not my favorite Monica song. And I like "Stay" much better.

This is one of my favorite songs by Monica, as well as one of my favorite songs of all time. I never get tired of hearing this song.

Well I like this song a lot... partially because of reasons not related to the song itself.

I don't like this song and I really don't think I'll ever understand why so many people here like her so much. IMO, she's had a lot of really annoying songs (this isn't one of them), and she's a below average vocalist.

Okay, I just heard the original version of "Angel Of Mine" done by Eternal earlier today. I gotta say that Monica's version was better.

Same thing you've said about Christina Aguilera 2001-now... Well, different people have different visions/definitions as to what is considered as "an average vocalist"... so I think he's just trying to express his opinion, not necessary saying it in a negative way. Just relax...

It is by far my most favorite song by Monica, but I don't know too much of her stuff either.

I love this song. I didn't hear Eternal's version until way after Monica had her hit and surprisingly I liked Eternal's more (normally like the version I hear first the most, and Monica is one of my fave artists). The vocals on Eternal's version are superior IMO.
Josh... my level of respect for you has just gone way down. Firstly, for bringing up an unrelated artist out of nowhere to bash the person you're disagreeing with (very immature), secondly for comparing Mariah and Mandy which is just ridiculous in the first place... and lastly I thought a moderator should be setting the tone. Surprisingly, Mandyfan has displayed 10 times the maturity and mod-worthiness in this post. I hope I don't see this kind of crap going on again.

Well I heard the Eternal version LONG before I heard Monica's, and it's natural for people to like the version they hear first.
Either way though, if you listen to both songs, you have to agree that the vocals are much better done on the Eternal version.
Actually that's still an opinion, BUT Monica's version is 'flatter', so that comment can't be made about Eternal.

"Angel Of Mine" by Monica is one of my favorite hits by my favorite artist. I understand that this song is a remake of an UK hit by Eternal, but Monica version just soars. I LOVED when she sang this song on the Soul Train awards back in 1999, she absolutely put her thing down on this track. The performance and the vocals was flawless.
This song was popular and was a #1 Hot 100 hit for Monica.
In response to the question, "Why do people like her so much?" It's simple, Monica is one of those RARE artists in todays music industry who manages to find success without becoming a media hog. She doesn't have to be a "Covergirl", "Loreal" spokeswoman, "Pepsi" pitchgirl or any of those superfulous, overexposed starlets. Her talent totally outshines all of the hoopla.
Futhermore, Monica, is one of the better vocalists in comparision to her contemporaries, the only other singer that will outsing Monica is Christina Aguileria. So for saying that Monica is an average vocalist that is RIDICULOUS!!!

It's an OK song. I can tolerate listening to it if I'm in the mood. Monica's best song was "For You I Will".

I liked both Monica's and Eternal's versions of it. I like Monica's more, though.
I thought it was boring when it first came out.

This is my favorite from Monica, I was really liking a lot of the music from that album. I'm surprised I never got the CD. It's one of my favorite R&B songs ever!
