Listening to a local alternative/classic rock station online. They played Red Skies by The Fixx and then Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim. This kind of unusual mix of music isn’t typical for a lot of rock stations so that’s why I brought it up here. It is typical for this particular station though. It’s awesome to tune in and hear something unique every time. One time they played Kandi by One EskimO. It did hit number one on AAA when it came out but it doesn’t get brought up much anymore. I do wish they gave airplay to new alternative.
As for pop, my local CHR station is spinning Oh My God by Alec Benjamin somewhat frequently. At this point that song hasn’t charted on any pop charts yet and if it has, it’s still low on them. Touch by Dillon Francis and Welcome to Atlanta by Jermaine Dupri f/ Ludacris have also been getting spins there.
I heard "One Summer" by Daryl Braithwaite on WWIS on Friday, right before American Top 40: The 80s. I had never even heard about that song - the only song by him that I remember was his minor hit in 1991 "Higher Than Hope", which I haven't heard on the radio since its brief chart run.
KYSR in LA plays some obscure Alt tracks. Within the past two days I’ve heard Coldplay’s Don’t Panic and RHCP’s Parallel Universe, the former of which was never a single stateside and the latter of which peaked at #37 on Alt radio in 2001.
