How about this upbeat pop song that was number one in May, 1991. Definitely one of Roxette's best, up there with "The Look" and "Dangerous". There are two versions of this song and you can tell which one it is from the beginning of the song. The one that I call the "CHR version" starts with a bass as they sing "Hello, you fool! I love you!" while the version that I heard on most AC stations, that line is sung a capella. The only other noticeable differences between the two is that the whistling sounds weaker in the AC version and near the end, they say "Roxette!" That part isn't heard in the CHR version. I myself prefer the AC version, but both are great!

I like the single remix version aside from the actual album version that's the only tow versions I heard. KGGG (former Hit 100) in Rapid City, SD played this mix as well.

This was one of my favorite songs ever for a long time!Β It was #2 on the countdown the first time I ever listened to AT40.Β The next week, it displaced "Baby Baby" and became #1!Β I never realized there were two versions of this song though.Β Do you know which was on the Joyride CD, and which one AT40 played?Β I have the CD, a downloaded MP3, and a tape of AT40 playing this song.Β I'll have to check to see which version they all are.
I find it interesting that there was an AC version of this song, because I never ever heard this on an AC.Β The only stations around me that played the song were CHRs.

Actually, I'm not sure that the one with the muted whistle and the a capella beginning was necessarily an A/C version - I just called it that because the A/C station that I heard it on (WHFB, Benton Harbor, now a country station) played that version. Joshjoel said that there was the single version and the album version. Maybe he knows which is which. I'm guessing that the one with the more pronounced whistle and the bass at the beginning is the album version and the other is the single version, but I'm not sure. Maybe if the library has either album, I can take a listen to see which is which.

Now that I think about it a little more, I think the one with the very audible "Roxette" at the end is the single mix, because I distinctly remember hearing that on the radio, while I'm not sure it's on my CD.

Not one of my favorite Roxette singles. I like their ballads much better.

There's another version I heard on a couple of stations, sort of a remix with a pseudo-hiphop "Walk This Way" beat tacked on (it's especially noticeable when Marie sings "rocks you like a baby" in the bridge).
It's an okay song.

OK I checked. The CD version has the shouted "Roxette" in the middle, while the AT40 version has it at the end. Other than that, they're mostly the same. They both have a bassline under the beginning "Hello, you fool, I love you".
Interestingly enough, the AT40 version is one of those versions where they repeat a verse to fill extra time. It clocks in at just under 6 minutes! (5:55 to be exact) Oh, and according to Shadoe Stevens, the song just dropped from 15 to 21, and there's something coming up about Milwaukee.

I'm not sure which version it was, but at the very beginning was a circus-like atmosphere with a man screaming "step right up" or something to that effect.
Anywho, this was a good song. An even better song was their #1 follow-up, "Fading Like A Flower".

I prefer their ballads as well, but this song was enjoyable enough.

Originally the album version got released with the fair man enticing the people to try the joyride in the beginning.Β Then there was a 7" version of this song, then the AC Mix when more and more AC stations started to add it.Β The Dance Mix of this song was called the Magicfriend mix.Β Yes, ulij, a great song in my opinion.

I recorded this from Dave Sholan's Insider way back in the day. What number was it the week you taped it? I remember this song topped both the "Insider" and AT40, but stopped at number two on R&R ("Baby Baby" spent an extra week on top)

I have their Greatest Hits CD from 1995 (i think it was released last year in the US) and I noticed that it did sound slightly different from the radio version, which I forget how it sounds except that "rock you like a baby" did have a beat to it where on the CD it doesn't.

Very good song. I love this CD and thought it was better than their debut.

Leeza Gibbons plays this song on her Hot AC show every once in awhile. I'm suprised, because I never hear it on regular Hot AC or Top 40 radio.
I remember when Shadoe Stevens did a whistling montage. It might have included this song or it might have been played before going into it.
Shadoe also said that it was inspired by a certain Beatles' song. I can't remember which song or what the connection was.
"Joyride" is OK, but I preferred "Fading Like A Flower" and "Spending My Time."

I always wondered why this didn't hit #1 in R&R. It was so poppy. It seemed like a better #1 candidate in R&R than Billboard. Same for "The Power of Love" by Celine Dion.

This was the song that first made me aware of Roxette as a group. I think it was the whistling that grabbed me. It's one of their best.

I haven't heard this on the radio in a couple of years. I wonder why stations stopped playing it.

I haven't heard this on the radio in a couple of years. I wonder why stations stopped playing it. Because they think we want to hear over and over again their ho-hum slow songs like "Listen To Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love". I do occasionally hear "The Look" on Sunny 101.5's "Totally 80s Weekends". Perhaps when stations start playing 90s music, this will pop up every now and then. I sure hope so, because it's one of Roxette's best hits.

Very solid track from Roxette and certainly in their top 5 best.

I must had heard this on the AC radio stations in my market. This was decent but I prefer "The Look" from this band.

I love this one, fun bop.
What's really interesting to me is it was their fourth #1, and it meant that two of them had Marie on lead and two had Per on lead. I can't imagine too many acts have multiple #1s with different singers on lead.
