Hard to believe this hasn't yet had a topic.
Hit #1 on the chart dated my birthday (no kidding!) and spent 3 weeks there.
This song is one of the many examples of why 1985 had such great music.

A-Ha had an AMAZING song a few years ago called "Summer Moved On".
You should check it out.

I like this song.
It has been sampled and covered so many times. I originally discovered this song through the club song "Hypnotize" by Qu-Zar. They used that instrumental hook that was at the beginning as the main hook in "Hypnotize."
I saw the video recently for "Take On Me" and thought it was pretty good.

I love this song!
One of several classic videos from 1985 ("The Boys Of Summer" and "Money For Nothing" were a couple others).

This song was incredible. When I think of 1980s Europop, I think of this song. Unlike many 1980s hits, I think this video is good even by today's standards.

This song is one of the many examples of why 1985 had such great music.
It must have hit #1 on October 4. I do remember that it took the top spot away from "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits, which Aaron mentioned earlier. At first, I did not like this song, but then it caught on and now I like hearing it every now and then. It wound up as the number four song of 1985, becoming the top debut hit of the year.

I really like it. The video is super cool - well, for the 80's at least.

Hard to believe that this song is already 20 years old! Seems like just yesterday, I was seeing the video on MTV. The song and video rocks.

This is a great song and video as well! I think I will play it now! I like "The Sun Always Shines On TV" a bit more as well as the Brits did, it went all the way to number one.

I really like this song. The vocal range in the chorus is huge. I wish a-ha had more hits...

I love this song . I think their newer work is better than the stuff from the 80s. They're still quite successful in europe , maybe they could also have some success on american HAC and AC radio but I don't know if their new stuff even gets released in the US.

They're still quite successful in europe , maybe they could also have some success on american HAC and AC radio but I don't know if their new stuff even gets released in the US. I always wondered about A-ha, but never really took a closer look. Well... A couple of people posted in this topic about "Lifelines" and "Summer Moved On", so I thought I'd try to track them down... I found the music video for "Lifelines" on YouTube and also found a live version of "Summer Moved On." I was impressed with both songs. I decided to order the "Singles 1984-2004" import CD on amazon.com. I hope I'll discover a few more great songs on that CD...

Wow, this is such an 80s classic. I could never forget that melody.
"The Sun Always Shines On TV" was another hit they had but it was so minor that it doesn't even compare to "Take On Me" in any way, shape or form.

One of the best songs from the 80's. This proves that the 80's were the greatest decade (music-wise)!

Both the song and video are classics. The video is one of the very best ever, IMO.

The video was genius, song is also genius... idk how anyone could hate this song. Oh and the synth work is insane on this, it blows my mind.
