This was the 5th single from "Like A Prayer." And just like "Enjoy The Silence," it peaked at #4 in R&R and #8 in Billboard.

This isn't a bad song, but I think it's a little bland compared to the other singles she released around that time.

I found it mighty strange that Casey Kasem played the album version instead of that Shep Pettibone single remix on CT40. The single remix is IMO much better than the LP version.

However, he did play the remix during the Top 100 of 1990 (but the wrong version of "Strike It Up" on the Top 100 in 1991).

I like this, but it was very plain and simple when compared to any of the other singles off of the LAP album.
I liked the Shep Pettibone mix a lot more. His mixes were really great.

I found it mighty strange that Casey Kasem played the album version instead of that Shep Pettibone single remix on CT40. The single remix is IMO much better than the LP version. It wasn't just Casey. Shadoe played that version as well. And Joel Denver did at least once on "Future Hits." Interestinly, the versions they played all had a cold ending, whereas the one on the album fades. Back in 1990, Power 92 in Phoenix played a version that mixed both the album version and the remix.

Completely overlooked. I think Vogue was initially intended to be the b-side. That would have been hilarious lol.
I love me some Shep, but I agree, the the album cut is superior.

This is the one Madonna single from her boom years (84-94) that I never heard on the radio in Michigan besides on AT40 during it's run and never after that.... Even Hanky Panky got more plays in Detroit

It's been completely forgotten at this point, but I love it. I prefer Shep's single version. It has that Soul II Soul/Loose Ends late 80s/early 90s British R&B influence.
This was the last single she co-wrote with Stephen Bray. It's also one of her few singles to have no official music video.

I honestly can't remember what this one sounds like. I haven't heard Shep's version, though. Am I correct in saying that this was her first CD maxi single in the US?

I prefer the single version rather than what was included on "Like A Prayer."

It might be my least favorite single from the album, but I still really enjoy it. I also prefer the remix to the original.

Not among my favs, also one of her most forgotten top 10 hits. The album has way too many great songs so this one pales in comparison.

I like it, nice sentiment- and it made for a great closer to the 1990 tour.

This song has always sent me up the wall. I don't like it all. The radio remix is better though.

"Keep It Together" was the 5th and final US single from Madonna's 4th studio album Like A Prayer, released in January 1990. Written and produced by Madonna and Stephen Bray, the main inspiration behind "Keep It Together" was Madonna's relationship with her family—whom she dearly missed after her divorce from actor Sean Penn. The song was dedicated to American funk and soul band Sly and the Family Stone. The lyrics deal with the realization of how important Madonna's family has been to her life. A pop and funk song consisting of an upbeat rhythm and groove, it features instrumentation from percussion, banjo and a conga.
The song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, after breaking her string of top 10s with her previous single, Oh Father. The song also topped the Dance Club Play chart, reached #66 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart, and was certified gold.
"Keep It Together" was the closing number of Madonna's 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour. The performance was inspired by the film A Clockwork Orange, and during the introduction Madonna sings a verse from "Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone.

I do like the Shep remix, but I prefer the instrumentation on the album version. I agree with Express Yourself, I much prefer the video mix.

WB put one of the mixes on a 30th anniversary Spotify playlist.
